Its really great to know someone who was a member of Basic Black. " Spec" still doing his thing with music. Now, he help us with our music.Never knew he was in a great group from Columbus Ga ( 706 ). Help us pull our music out. Thanks once again " Spec".
Way FONKY!!! No doubt Basic Black was a Guy clone drummed up by Gene Griffin after the fallout between he and Teddy Riley subsequently leading to Riley and Griffin parting ways. Who cares? Guy was great...Basic Black ain't bad either. No need to compare the two. Just enjoy the music. New Jack Swing forever Baby!!!!
The lead singer Darryl (Dezo) Adams was from either Brooklyn or queens NY and I used to see him at a lot of church concerts back in the mid to late 1980's. Just like Aaron Hall, Adams was a church dude. But basic black and R. Kelly with Public Announcement both had ripped off the Guy sound!!! I know Dezo wrote on Dave Hollisters project Ghetto Hymns but that's the last I heard if him!
HERE'S A LITTLE TRIVIA YOU TUBERS! How many of you know that this group was formed by Gene Griffin to replace Guy and steal Teddy Riley's New Jack Swing sound? Gene Griffin was the other half of GR Productions with Teddy Riley (KING OF THE NEW JACK SWING). Teddy and Guy sued Gene Griffin for stealing millions of dollars from them (mostly Teddy). He was taking credit for writing and producing music that he had nothing to do with. The lead singer was made to sound just like Aaron Hall!
Whoah I never saw this video before! Great upload.
I like basic black alot, and I have their casette tape from 1990 (I took it from my pops, because I was a big fan of that album ever since I use to listen to it as a 5 yr. old little boy in my dad's whip back in the day).
Dope classic New Jack Swing!!!
"Don't Make Me Fall In Love" was the shit as well, shoot the whole album period!!
dont know why but this group just popped in my head.. i have the album and 12 inch.. remember that teddy riley said they did nothin but bite guy!! but damn this album was slammin.. still have it!!!
@TheodoreKaley Basic Black was used by Gene Griffin to steal Teddy Riley's and Guy's sound and image. The lead singer sounds just like Aaron doesn't he? That's no coincidence. Teddy and Guy sued Gene Griffin and got paid millions of dollars. He was taking credit for writing and producing music that Teddy had written and producted. This is a little NEW JACK SWING trivia for you!
@Lescambro all that kind of storys are media hype...to make a "THING" more popular or what ever and people who believe in storys like : Who is better ?
Michael or Prince...have to keep on learning about the truth !
Because all of dem r great,Keith sweat,BBD,Guy,Basic Black,Mikki Blue,
Blackstreet,ARB,Highland Place Mobsters,Wrecks N´Effect...........
so i keep on remembering like PUBLIC ENEMY said :
DON´T BELIEVE THE HYPE !!!.....peace to all loving NEW JaXX out there !!!
@TheodoreKaley Stop making up stuff!!!!!Basic black sucked except for She's mines!!!!A fat Aaron Hall clone better than the real Aaron Hall just stop!!!
I think NJS was end of the bass guitar era. If anyone else has even noticed, most R&B now a days have absolutely no bass guitar riffs. At least NJS had synthesized bass guitar beats.
They could never hold a candle to Guy

@123djblive If Teddy really said that, than it's really sad, because Basic Black is a level higher than guy. But Guy is also awesome.
