  • Im only 14, and went to my sisters wedding yesterday.. I have never danced with anyone a day in my life, and thought to dance with my father for my first dance. So i requested this song for me and my dad to dance to... Very Special Moment <3

  • The greatest song I have heard in a long time. So special

  • I got married back in 1975, when most newlyweds just had a reception in the basement of the church... cake, nuts, and mints.... the dinner or dance reception were not common back then. Now that my Dad is gone, I would give ANYTHING to have had the opportunity to dance with him at my wedding. It would have been a wonderful memory. I will always be Daddy's Little Girl! Love you, Dad!

  • This song chokes me up. It is so true if you are as lucky as I.

  • Very very nice wedding song with Mr McDermott, I wish to dance on this song with my two daughters if they ever get married. The only thing wrong with the video is the quality of the photos. They look very nice, but the definition should be at it's best with such a song. Anyway, now, I close my eyes to listen.

  • unfortunately my dad passed away in may 1998 so i wil never get to hav a dance with him on my wedding day and it pains me... wish i could bring him back for just one dance! :(

  • @1916easterrisin

You dance with your dad anyway. Just close your eyes and imagine he's dancing with you for he will be even though you can't see him.

  • What a great song. I can't believe I've never heard it.

  • I can't make things better, but there is a little Scottish girl who is 11 years old and loves her Canadian heritage. I will post a pic

  • I searched endlessly for a father/daughter song. I was torn between this one and "Daddy's Girl". I chose this one, because it spoke of everything that wasn't always said between my father and I. My dad shows no emotion, and he was very emotional during our whole wedding/reception. This song is just beautiful. And yes, I was married in Newfoundland in 2008 in October.

  • my Dad choose this song for our first dance as father and daughter, it was perfect the words are beautiful, i love my Dad with all my heart and i will always have this memory with me, it was very important to me to dance with my Dad as ive always been his little girl and this symbolised me finding a husband and letting my Dad know that i now have 2 men in my heart - love you Dad from your sweetheart xxx

  • my dad wont be at my wedding he wont come :(

  • This song says it all about my daughter & me...

  • i was surfing to find a song to dance with my daughter on her wedding in May. I've heard this one a dozen times and every time its brought tears to mine and my wifes eyes..... It's so true. What an amazing song is this !.....

  • ench35 I danced with my daughter 0n her wedding night the "father daughter" dance over 40 years ago this song brings back that memory and a tear tho it was not this song we danced to.

  • I listen and listen this song and my heart crying, 'cause I loved a daughter, but i don't have instead two fantastic SONS.

  • i miss my dad so so much, i never got to dance with him on my wedding in January as he couldnt travel, he passed away 2 month afterwards and i will always always wish he made my wedding for our last dance!!!!

  • Bet he wished he danced with you too! Too bad you didn't go back to where he was to get married.

  • What a beautiful song. As a father, my daughter is getting married shortly and Instead of Daddy's little girl, I want to dance to this song. It doesn't say the singer/songwriter, sounds quite Irish and being half Irish I think it would be perfect.

  • The name of the song is dance with me daughter and it is sung by John McDermet . It is a wonderful song I dance to it with my dad at my wedding. Enjoy.

  • It is sad that thousands of women will never be able to dance with their father on their wedding day, as they are denied equal rights under our marriage laws because they are gay.

  • I know heaps of lesbians that dance with their fathers.

  • but their marriage is not legal that is what I was referring to.

  • I won't ever be able to dance with my father either,

  • I feel so sorry for Michael Jacksons daughter.

She will never be able to dance with her father on her wedding day when she is odviously a major daddys girl :(

  • i danced with my father at my wedding rep. to this song i love my dad very much and i am for ever greatful that he was there for me on my wedding day. love you dad always and forever.

  • We were at a wedding in Newfoundland on May 15, 2009 and this is the song the bride and her dad danced to.... it almost made everyone cry as her dad almost died last year and they did not think he would be able to be at her wedding...

He whirled her around the floor so beautifully....

  • @dot49 This song was written by a Newfoundland woman for her own daughter's wedding. Check out the website jam canoe for the full story. John does a beautiful rendition, but many sites give him credit for writing the lyrics. The credit should go where it belongs. We were listening to Madeline Thompson sing it on the radio for years before John recorded it.

  • this one reminds me of a type of song my dad would sing to me.

  • All I can say is .... pure class.. sure John is known as a drunk .. but he lost his dad early in his life and overcame that to become a soothing voice for the regular person who has gone thorough the same. .. keep your head high john.. you have alot of support .. you've made my life easier

  • this is a lovely song i never heard it b4,,,but its lovely....and touchingi will never dance wit my dad as he past away 8yrs ago and the nearest man was my grandad and he past away 9yrs ago of cancer and i would of loved him to give me away but i guess we cant get it all....

  • I am sorry for the loss, but you had the greatest moment dancing with your father on his lap. I love this song the words are very touching. My only problem I don't have a daughter. I will share this song with friends that have daughters that are getting married.

I woul'd love to dance to this song

  • I choose this song for my father and I. My father had lost his first leg to diabetes in spring of 2003 and struggled to teach himself how to walk on his artificial leg before my wedding that fall. He proudly walked me down the isle not knowing that it would be his last walk. At the reception we Played this song while I sat on my fathers lap and my husband pushed us around the dance floor. One month latter he lost his second leg. My father passed away in July 2008 from complications of diabetes.

  • but you had the joy of being with him the happiest day in your life :) memories are things to cherish, I hope that my Dad is still around to walk me down the aisle when its my wedding day :)

  • @KelLaurel So beautiful. I am so glad he was there with you.

  • @awsumeaim Wow, I could have written the exact same post about my daddy, only about 10 years earlier! My dad passed away in 1997, but he went through the exact same thing. He tried valiantly to walk me down the aisle, but unfortunately he was just too weak and it was too much, but I very proudly went down that aisle on his arm as my brother pushed his wheelchair and we had our father/daughter dance the same way! Diabetes took my daddy too and I miss him every day of my life!

  • I'm not even sure how I ended up on this video or why I read your comment. My dad lost his right leg to diabetes about 6 months ago. He's struggling to walk for very long too. I don't visit him very often and don't have very many pictures. I should visit more..

This stranger wishes you the best. Don't forget your dad.

  • i really with that i had found this song before my wedding a couple years ago.

  • Indecent, yet true.

(type this comment yourself and listen to the audio preview. It's hilarious!)

  • I love this is a beautiful song... It's the song me and my dad are having in October.

  • i know them! that's not his daughter, that's his son

  • is that dick cheney?

  • Love this song. The perfect song for a father to dance with his daughter on her wedding day. Just wish I could have discovered it before my daughter's wedding a year ago. John Mcdermott is an amazing singer!

  • This is a beautiful song! I wish I could have danced it with my Dad. He died a few years before I found my soulmate. I miss him everyday...

My Mom walked me down "the aisle" and we (and my 3 brothers) danced to "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion. It was wonderful and moreseo because my Dad was with me...I pinned a picture of him under my wedding dress! He was with me in spirit - I KNOW!

  • my mom things it cool nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

  • I LOVE this song and NO ONE sings it better than John McDermott!!! I wonder if that last photo is he and his daughter???????

  • I do too :) no, I do not think so, I just looked for different pictures from different weddings and added them :)

  • You put that video together yourself???? Great job!! I thought it was a video that came with the song. Very very good. Very impressive!! I was thinking that I wouldve loved to had my wedding picture in there with John singing behind it!!!! You don't happen to need a spare do you??? lol lol Thanks for putting this together KelLaurel. I was very moved.

  • Thank you :) lol, well I suppose I could make one for you if you really want it/need it >.> :)

And thank you for the compliments :)

  • John McDermott doesn't have a daughter. But he would have made a really great father. I know him personally .. he's a really sweet guy !

  • I met him twice, and I'd have to agree. He's a great guy, very down-to-earth. He and his wife (whose name I can't spell) never had children? If they wanted them, that's really sad.
