I have read that lifting in a hypnotic state (given an induction prior to workout) showed a marked decrease in force or power production, though low-intensity endurance increases. Perhaps a relaxed trance state was used in the study, which I have not personally read.
Obviously a post-hypnotic suggestion would be markedly different. As "the zone" is itself an altered state, it seems sensible that hypnosis could help achieve it, providing that the hypnotist knew what state to target.
