I like Shimada better on this song, because although Salonga's voice is beautiful, in that scene Eponine is supposed to be dying, and Shimada does a better job of convincing you that she is Eponine and that she is dying. Don't get me wrong, I live both versions.

I've never been able to see the play so I'm not familiar with a lot of the songs. I've adored 'On My Own' for more than 10 years since I first heard it, so today I decided to seek out Eponine's other songs and this is just heartbreaking. Even only knowing the barest background and a little about the love triangle and how it ended up, I wasn't expecting to be so moved by it.
