We'll be driving this great road and the others once again when we come up from Texas for or our annual Christmas vacation in Los Alamos; visiting Taos, Santa Fe and then bringing in the New Year in a cabin up in the Jemez Mountains....such an awesome area, and have been coming up for 35 years. "The Land of Enchantment" is right!!
man it's a been a while since i blasted up and down that road! the best place to speed though is when you've headed off the hill and take the exit to espanola and come down over that hill after you've passed over the highway. i could make it from LA to the theater in espanola in about 15 minutes!
You think thats a sheer vertical drop? How about taking the interstate from los alamos up to jemez. Once you get to the fork in the road which either takes you to the pueblos or the jemez mountains and you take a right, the 3rd turn is a straight 80 foot drop. Then about 20 miles up the interstate you're literally right next to a 200 foot cliff. First time I drove past it it was 4 in the morning and the fog was sitting in the canyon. I was terrified to say the least lol.
Its difficult to get a sense of the sheer vertical drop over the guardrail on the passenger side just from the video. Its a LONG way down. Havent been to the plateau from Santa Fe in many years, but still remember it clearly. Thank you for posting this!
