I started watching this by accident. I was half dead and wankered after saturday night. I'd be trying to eat my dinner and this would come on. Sunday lunchtimes. I couldn't stop watching it i was hooked. Loved this programme so much and i'm female. None of my friends could understand me. Just loved it.
It's hard to believe this was the work of Go Nagai, the man behind such anime classics as Mazinger Z, Cutie Honey, and Devilman. X-Bomber/ Star Fleet was no doubt his answer to the works of Gerry Anderson.
You can now buy this Closing Theme Song and the rest of the brand new Original Soundtrack by original composer, Paul Bliss direct from the producer at starfleetsoundtrack(dot)com -- we'll have the full website up soon...
I love this! I finally got my hands on the box set dvd for this series a year ago. Went upstairs first chance I got and didn't go back down until I had watched every single episode XD *hey, I hadn't seen it in like 15 years*
Star Fleet Terrahawks Captain Scarlet were the three most watched shows for me...Thunderbirds were okay, but Fireball XL-5 was cup of tea over them I guess.
Jeez this series was the best series i ever saw. everything about it was way ahead of its time. The music was beautiful & haunting, the story was compelling, the sound effects were the best and the graphics just perfect. Hairs on the back of my neck and dare i say i shed a slight tear in seeing this again.
"Paul Bliss composed it and his mate Andy Brown sung the song."
No, Andy Brown isn't the singer in this version. I have Bliss Band's first album and I could tell Paul Bliss' voice from a mile away. This is definitely sung by Paul Bliss. Perhaps Andy is helping harmonize the vocals but I'm not sure.
Hey, Paul Bliss was also in the short-lived, Steely Dan-inspired group 'Bliss Band' (in fact, Michael McDonald lends background vocals to the first track, 'Rio'). He later went on to play keyboards for The Moody Blues. It's amazing that I began by looking up info on the old British series 'Come Back, Lucy' only to wind up finding this clip! Looks a lot like Thunderbirds, except the mannequins in Thunderbirds are arguably some of the creepiest-looking ever, not to say this isn't but still...
possibly my favourite kids show ever, i loved watching this along with terrahawks nothing today comes close, thanks for posting, my trip down memory lane has been great
ooooo-ooooh! Only they can save us! Star Fleet! Star Fleet!
Growing up in Trinidad WI, no one dared bother us when Star Fleet came on the tele. The awesome sound track has always stayed with me.The 80's really rocked with sci-fi shows. Thanks for posting!
Mark Rolston did the voice for John Lee..? Thought that name rang a bell,he played Drake in Aliens and was Boggs in Shawshank Redemption..who never walked again.
according to my dad i was a bit young to watch this when it was on but i was still allowed. i remember being scared of the imperial master oh the memories! this is defintly a dvd set im getting!
Bit of trivia: Garrick Hagon, who did the Peter Fonda-esque voice for Captain Carter was also in Star Wars: A New Hope as Luke Skywalker's best pal on Tatooine, Biggs Darklighter.
Fantastic . . . Watching this takes me back. I feel 10 years old again when watching this. Ahhhh, great memories. Certainly a dvd set I will be buying, even though I'm 37 years old.
Thank fuck for YouTube!! Talk about taking you back to being a kid, awesome!! Used to watch this on Sunday afternoons after a political programme that used to come on at 1, The X Bomber, total legend, have you noticed the dodgy bit in the song though, sounds like hes singing " To save ARSEHOLES!!" HAHA!!
What a show - I loved it and the DVD is out in June!
The way the boys form Di-X in those closing credits is simply awesome. Thank god I belonged the the generation which grew up wit, amongst other things, stuff like this.
One of the best 80´s-series closing themes existing. =) And this one,by Paul Bliss,is great. Am not disrespecting Brian May (Queen was a good artist-group),but his version was far from good compared to this one.
This was a great closing theme tune - one of the best. I have a vinyl copy of the Brian May version - it was linked to the series, but his version was a cover version (as noted) to the one performed on the end titles - and the original is still the best ! :-)
Same here - the theme tune and end title song were cracking!! Brian May (he of the band Queen) sang the song. Its true. *sigh* where did the time go....
Not quite true. The song as heard here was by Paul Bliss, who did the incidental music to the show.
The Brian May song you refer to was actually a cover version of this. Though it seems they let them use clips from the series in his video, which can be found elsewhere on YouTube.
