My oldest brother was killed in 'Nam in '67. The ONLY people who blamed our troops were the conservatives and older veterans because they felt they "LOST" the war. I know of soldiers who found it hard to adjust back home due to PTSD or a year in hell. When they sought comfort and understanding from their local veterans org they were shunned. You will NEVER see photos/film of anti-war protesters blaming our troops. They ALWAYS had signs/banners supporting our troops: "BRING OUR GI'S HOME NOW"

I know it's a common belief & maybe it happened a few times (there are always hotheads) but I think it's highly exaggerated. To hear a strong argument that this "spitting on veterans" cliche was an exaggeration of a very small number of incidents, read the book Spitting Image: Myth, Memory and the Legacy of Vietnam.
