Virén's '72 Olympic 5K victory came from his careful running of almost all the bends (curves) near the inner edge of the first lane, which spared him tens of metres compared to his chief rival Steve Prefontaine-United States. Prefontaine gave Virén a handicap of over forty metres at the 1972 Olympics 5,000 metres. Prefontaine actually ran a 5K distance faster than Viren, but the 40 metres handicap gave Viren the victory. This fact makes it difficult to label Viren a faster runner.
@JulesAndVincent54 hey idiot, I was telling you two to take your argument outside this video, obviously you've never heard that expression before... but I you want to stop by Richmond, VA, I'd be glad to discuss this in person...
@JulesAndVincent54 dude the "Prefontaine" race scenes suck major cock compared to "Without Limits". Jared Leto doesent run like pre it all. The 1972 munich race was dead on in Without Limits. In "Prefontaine" Gammudi is like 6 foot 4 ripped black guy hahaha fail. Simple, Without Limits> Prefontaine
@JulesAndVincent54 GOOD! Best news I heard all day! I'm a pharmacologist soooo I doubt I'll ever become a maid, but I'm 100% sure I'll be paying your welfare payments every month so you wont miss a meal! Oh and say hello to your mother when you walk up from her basement to eat breakfast!
@JulesAndVincent54 I just embarrassed your ass in the without limits trivia contest now you are trying to cover up your stupid mistake by name calling? Are in 3rd grade or something? Listen we both know that you are dumber than a bag of wet hair so my suggestion is that you take a walk because you CLEARLY have lost this discussion!
@JulesAndVincent54 dont watch this movie and say hey something else is better talk about trolling! Its obvious that you havent seen without limits it clearly has the 72' olympics and the olympic trials on the movie! so who is the fucking moron here? its obviously YOU!
You should get it into perspective. Pre was good, but not all that great. He was way behind Ron Clarke's records. Puttemans, Viren, Dixon, Quax, Foster, Jipcho, Stewart and Keino where all better runners.
@bootymanager Perhaps you're the one who needs perspective. There's a reason the name Prefontaine is known better internationally than most of those names with the exception of Clarke, and even then more track/cross country teams use Pre quotes on their shirts. It's because it wasn't enough for Pre to win, he had to know he had done his best. He didn't run to win. He ran to be the best runner he could be, and that's why he's the one with movies made about him.
Pre is a fucking GOD. I love this guy. He's a constant inspiration in my life. No guts, no glory. Period.

No runner at the time was "way better" than Pre that's a crock of shit. Pre was just 24 when he died.
