  • Yep! It is Corky 2.

  • Isnt that corky 2? Love this video.

  • I'm so glad they were moved, there tank was so small :( But Corky is doing great at SWC! She's a beautiful orca I love her :)

  • Corky is such a beautiful intelleigant orca she is my faviorite..

  • 1:35 ugly!!!

  • I work at Terranea which was built on the site of marineland, but I wish i had been able to experience this before it was taken down. what awesome creatures

  • Hmmm.... interesting how here some random person is interacting to the whales, and now SeaWorld doesn't allow the most expierenced trainers in the water. Much simpler times...

  • @orkidluver97 Seaworld doesn't allow even the most experienced trainers in the water with TILLIKUM...why? because he has a history of being in the wrong place at the wrong time ;)...this last incident with him however..sadly there is no way to cover up the fact that he killed his trainer..we'll never know if he meant to act violently or playfully..most likely playfully because he saw her hair moving around and got distracted..obviously XD

  • @OhUDidntKn0w True! But none of the trainers are in the water, not even with Corky! It's insane!

  • @OhUDidntKn0w It most certainly was not playfully. And they have ruled out that he did not pull her in by the ponytail. Tilikum knows his strength, and he probably knew what he was doing. He dragged her around the pool and it was a while before they could coax him to let go of the arm he had pulled off.

I am not saying this as an ignorant person, like many people on this site. I help research wild orcas.

  • oh how wonderful. I just finished reading the parrot's lament, and there are several stories about orky and corky in it. its a good read and i suggest it! btw may i borrow this footage?

  • @FighterForPaula1

What is the parrot's lament? Tell me about the parrto's lament and I'll let you use it :)

  • lol. The Parrot's Lament is a book compiled of many different stories the author gathered from keepers and trainers of many kinds of animals, including orcas and dolphins. It is mostly about animal psychology and intelligence, and there are interesting things in it. It's by eugene linden.

  • @FighterForPaula1

on your recomendation i read the parrots lament, and your right it is a fantastic book. The stuff about these two was really eye opening.

by the way for anyone else interested - i bought it from amazon for a penny - you cant argue with that.

  • I grew up in Portuguese Bend in the late 70's - early 80's and went to Marineland often. Thanks for posting this..... it brought back a lot of good memories.

  • I remember Orky and Corky. Thanks for posting this. I miss those big guys. God bless em.

  • Anyhow....if the gentleman who recorded the video reads this...could you please find a way to post it here on youtube? I was pregnant with my 22 yr old at the time, had no clue I was 4 mos pregnant, but I have always told her she swam with dolphins before she was born. It would be most noble of you! :)

  • Mysteriously there were two bomb threats on Marineland requiring them to close the park a month early. Yet the Palos Verdes Police department NEVER received a call regarding the threats. I was heart broke to hear that Echo (a mother dolphin still nursing her calf) had been transported in a tank with sharks to SeaWord SD and died along the way. Will always love Billy. In protest of the abrupt shut down, myself and friend and another lady jumped in the dolphin tank, where the video is.?????

  • the place is a resort now.. a nice one that pays well, it wuld have been cool if marineland was still there tho

  • i heard that the guy that owns sea world stole marine lands shamoos so they had to close down, im not sure if its true

  • i live 100 ft away

  • Terranea?

  • yup

  • Harcourt profited well in the Death of Marineland.

  • the tank at seaworld orlando is 100 feet wide and 62 feet deep

  • No its not.

  • yes it is

  • First of all miss know-it-all. SeaWorld Orlando has 7 tanks. 2 Medical pools, 3 back pools, Shamu Close Up pool, and the show pool. The show pool is 36 feet deep, 190 feet long, & 90 feet wide. Where did you get that info, measuring the pool in your head from a picture?! Even email SW, they will tell you that your wrong!

  • where orky and corky very close

  • man we tore dirtbikes through there, paintballed, skateboarded. it was a sea side heaven for that shit. Gues it helps being buddies with the caretakers son. hahahaha. of course this was all done when it was a ruin.

  • Oh did you know that when Lolita's tank was built it was the 2nd largest in the country.

  • The size of this tank is a 80 foot circle and 22 feet deep. Lolita's tank is something like 75 ft by 35 ft and is 20 feet deep. I think Orky and Corky had a nicer tank than Lolita. I think this because it was bigger and they had each other. I also always thought that bigger is always better.

  • I met Corky at Marineland when I was 5. She was in a tank with 3 levels of underwater observation windows. As I grew & spent my summers at Marineland I crouched down & ran under to various other windows & levels and Corky would always find me. We would play HIDE & SEEK between her shows all day. She is the most amazing whale I have encountered & when I go to visit her at Sea World she always swims to where I am at the tank. There's more to Corky than meets the eye. She touches the heart.

  • yea isnt she great? she's one of the oldest whales in captivity but is still one of the best performers of seaworld california. too bad orky had to go =[

  • I know. I was heartbroken when Harcort, Brace and Jovanovitch bought out Marineland, stripped the place and shipped the two Orca's to separate amusement parks. Orky was very temperamental and could get into really bad scuffles with his trainers. But splitting him from the only companion he had was a huge mistake and then just throwing him into a new environment with other Orca's was just too much for him. I was so sad when I learned he died.

  • Wow, consider yourself very lucky! Have any idea how deep that tank was by the way? The one in this video?

  • Actually, Orky and Corky were NEVER sent to separate parks. They both went to Sea World San Diego together, and Orky stayed there for the rest of his life. He survived there for almost two years.

  • Thanks for the correction. The Daily Breeze reported when the park was sold that Orky was sent to Ohio Sea World and Corky was sent to SD Sea World. That's where I got my information from. I later heard of his death from the same local newspaper.

  • Fupperdupps,

I wonder if she's still looking for you. Last month, she saw my plushie, then swam away in moments. I started to go, because the park was closing. I looked back and she swam by, as if looking. I came back, and she stayed with me until I had to go. The hardest part is when I see her watching me leave.

  • i wish they hadn't torn down marine land

  • wow, thank you for sharing such old footage...

  • lolita should be sent to marine life she would have such a better life

  • She would die because she is practically blind in one eye, has kidney problems requiring daily medication, and has severe teeth damage from chewing on the sides of the tank.

  • its a little sad how one of the first orca tanks in the history of captive orcas is bigger than the modern day tank that holds lolita

  • its a little sad how one of the first orca tanks in the history of captive orcas is bigger than the modern day tank that holds lolita

  • isn't that screwed up? Actually, if you aren't counting the holding pool in Lolita's tank, this one probably has a little less than twice the volume...

  • The really sad part is that is not a modern tank. It is the same one that was there whenn the park first opened.

  • At least they're not in it anymore. Thank God. At least Corky is in a much bigger one now and with more Orcas. To bad for Orky though. Bless his heart. Was he captured from the wild? I thank so. I wonder if he would still be a live today if he wasn't put in captivity? Just pondering.

  • Woah small tank!

  • well it was deeper than lolitas tank & a little bigger to.

  • I guess and that's better to hear!

  • wow great footage of corky and orky II u dont see that every day

  • you're Right this has to be the best footage of orky 2 i've seen. it's Better than that documentray clip. don't you think ?? plus this is nice footage of corky 2 when she was younger.

  • yea ur right in fact ive havent seen any other orky II footage besides the miscue

what i like the most is how i can recognize corky even though she was young

  • 5/5 Stars & Faved! Great Footage

  • Oh man what a gem! Thank you for posting this. Goodness to see those 2 so long ago. Corky actually looks a lot smaller to me than she does now...I guess that tracks since it's been YEARS ago right? And I'll continue the chain of how beautiful Orky was...Gosh these are such beautiful animals. Thanks again *saves*

  • Great video, especially since footage like this of Orky and Corky are rare. However, I have one small correction for you. Orky died in September 1988, three days after the birth of his first calf, Orkid. But he still lives on in his daughters Orkid and Kayla, and his granddaughter Halyn.

  • aww Orky is SOOO gorgeous!

  • WOW ! AMAZING ,Video ! I am loving it , I am over obsessed , thatnks so much for posting !

  • Ma c0rky Je taiime tant =')
