  • that guitar better be 18 cause it just got raped.

  • he's got John scofield faces LoL . love it. john is great!!

  • at his prime. entering fame. :)

  • what song was he jamming ths on?

  • @GoingCamando20 i think it's a bluesed out version of come back to bed..

  • @Coop624 Yeah it's some sort of come back to bed outro

  • Now we have seen several of John's sex faces.

  • I'll have to give him credit for his massive guitar skills. And he has a great appreciation for the blues. I'm trying not to like him but I can't.

  • Did he take drugs?

  • CUT OFF IN MIDDLE OF GRT PERFORMANCE....

  • lol 00:38.. now thats a guitarded face if Ive ever seen one ;)

  • i just realized that I'll never be that good

  • @25ragz

That's very astute of you, the song is come back back to bed, but the breakdown is in the style of a classic from Marvin berry in back to the future.

  • WTF THATS LIKE YOUR MOTHER STORMING INTO YOUR ROOM BEFORE YOUR ABOUT TO CUM

not that that's happened to me before

  • i hope there is a good reason why you stopped recording.

  • the song is come back to bed... he improvises all of his solo's

  • I think he is like super high in this video.

  • mercyyyy

  • Anyone know the name of the song he's playing?

  • @TheTallMan35 It's all improv, but it does sound like he's playing over the progression for "Come Back To Bed." Either that, or a basic 1-3 progression.

  • @TheTallMan35 come back to bed

  • Here, here pilot duffy. Isn't that called selling your essential self, your soul?

  • sto buffone fa cacare.

  • chiunque tu sia sbagli di grosso a dire che john mayer fa cagare...è uno dei migliori artisti che ci sia su sto mondo....e tu che gli dai del buffone? Bah

  • I don't think he's an asshole, I think he's funny and people just don't understand. I laughed my ass off reading that RS interview.

Whatever, who cares what his personality is like anyway. As long as he keeps playing and bringing heaven to my ears it's fine by me.

  • rs article was funny as hell but creepy and insiteful in the same way. we all wish to get big playing guitar and find the right chick eventually

  • where can i find a tab for his guitar part in tihs??

  • anyone read his interview in rolling stone? total ass hole. but, for whatever reason, that's part of what you like about the guy. He's an ass hole, but he's funny and creative. he's got some chops too.

  • he's not an asshole, people are just too sensitive. I would argue that his music is actually a little girly, even though he can play the blues, he don't got what it takes.

He can play Jimi all he wants, he just doesn't compare.

  • yea he's an asshole there's no doubt about it. however, would he be an asshole if it wasn't for females just trying to get with him just to say hey i slept with john mayer? if you actually read the article it goes on to say all he wan'ts is a serious relationship with some1 who looks at him for being a normal guy. his main routiune everyday is wake up at noonish, play some guitar, go bar hoping, come home smoke some weed and play 360 till 5 in the morning. whats wrong with that?

  • i was really following his SRV roots at this in time, i really dig that.

  • soooo under rated. amazing

  • jeff healey style xD

  • this guy is so cool.... just random and spontaneous, just letting the sound come out , he just can´t express it with his face hence the random gestures, it´s like that, like a sudden rush of mixed poerful feeling !!!! yeah !!

  • this guy looks like peter parkers bro

  • in response to BSAiden, i completly agree. especially when you are playing blues, and play from your sole like mayer does, as well as SRV and BB king, it doesnt come from their mind.

  • It's sad to see great guitarists loosing the ground

  • This is to the people referring to the faces.

When your playing guitar, you make A LOT of faces, no doubt about it. When you're playing guitar, you express your emotions through the intrument and for a lot of people, that's the only way they can. So don't go saying, "Oh, the faces need to go." If there was no faces, there wouldn't be the great and enthusiastic guitarist we know as John Mayer today.

  • Well he doesn't make faces anymore today really. And his playing isn't as good as it used to be (when considering the soul in it) so you're right on that one.

  • Faces make the video.

  • @conor30000 He's an epic guitarist, but those FACES are ANNOYING........!

  • man he's AMAZING...

but those are some fucky blues faces...

  • It's sad that when John Mayer first started making music it was to give the pop music scene familiarity and exposure to real music like blues, etc. and now it's the other way around.

Real music is discouraged to an extent now days that we can't even get John Mayer to stop playing two chord songs and taking his shirt off. It makes me sad when I see what a real musician like John Mayer has been reduced to because of lame producers and completely worthless teeny bopper fans.

  • You need to go and see him live sometime rather than make judgements about the person you see in the media. He may still play the old "radio edit" faves, but he also injects stuff that clearly comes from his soul.

I've seen him live many times. There was a period in 2006 after he became "tabloid famous" that his performances seemed all about album promotion and lacked his usual passion - but at the most recent gig I saw at the Troubadour in LA, I can safely say the old JM is still there.

  • My girlfriend is a big fan so maybe if he comes in town where I live I'll do her a favor and give him another chance. :)

  • one thing pilotdoofy......listen to his trio, he plays some real good shit

  • @PilotDoofy there goes the liberal agenda, trying to keep AMERICA down again

  • @PilotDoofy hey listen to this, two chords go a long way

  • @PilotDoofy hey listen to this, two chords go a long way

  • @PilotDoofy AMEN!

  • @PilotDoofy Number one the whole first part of your statement just doesn't make any sense. Its not "the other way around." Mayers intentions with the room for squares album were not solely for pop music familiarity and especially not intended for exposure to the blues, because Mayer didn't bust into the blues scene until much later down the road. Number two in reference to the word "reduced" is inaccurate, Mayers work has progressively improved and diversified especially as a guitar player.

  • @PilotDoofy Thirdly; if your not an actual educated musician keep you worthless, invalid ideals and opinions off of good music.

    Thanks

  • @PilotDoofy ? wha wha? what two chord songs? His shirt comes off for stuff like his crossroads cover. And surely the blues is the most boring for that: its a 1 4 5, you know when each chord is coming, at least john chucks in a substitute 6 chord to replace the 5 and be slightly original-ish.

Covered In Raid is a two chord song, the only one I can think of by John. And have you heard his work on that?

"real music like blues", thats the lamest comment ever. 1. blues is a form of pop music.

  • @PilotDoofy thats not true at all. theres nothing wrong with pop our generation has just destroyed. john loves pop. whats wrong with that? and if you look at the tabs of his songs you would realize that all of them have a shit tone of different chords and are so much harder than you would think. he plays the music he loves blues. pop. and his own little genre where he brings them together. i will agree with you his fan base is based off of his pop music and sex appeal but its still great music.

  • @PilotDoofy he definitely plays more than two chord songs (yes, there are a few... "come back to bed" [as in this video] and gravity) and I haven't seen a video recently (not that it doesn't happen) where he's not got a shirt on... He still does what he did in Room for Squares, but just from a different vantage point IMHO...

  • @PilotDoofy Haha guy you obviously dont know what youre talking about. The first two albums he released were his most mainstream pop oriented stuff, and continuum was probably the least pop and battle studies somewhat. But as he gets bigger and bigger, his shows include alot more blues stuff than what he used to do.

  • @PilotDoofy you're retarded

  • lol... buying a freakin awesome guitar- 600-1500$

setting up a concert for one night-thousands of dollars

getting tickets for JM show- bout 300$ maybe

laughing at his facial expressions and guitar skills (mostly his face)- PRICELESS!

for everything else that fails... just scream and dance!

  • That would have been funny if you had a better punch line and said it differently.

  • Beginning with some Jeff Healey Stuff.. lol

  • He is Tom Hanks' alter ego

  • he hath jizzed...multiple tymes XD

  • EXCELLENT

  • Why the hell u stopped recording?

    Bah, nice video anyways.

  • I know right, that last riff was exploding, you tell how much feeling he has with his playing

  • man he needs to turn that shit up at the end. Volume is so important.

  • yeah i agree, he seriously needs to turn it up!

  • what song is this

  • come back to bed :)

  • the one that's in his head. aside from the core pattern, which is pretty basic blues, he's making it up on the spot. That's jazz/blues improvisation.

  • this foo is badass. got some skills

  • JM is sick, but can i get a little love for that sax lick at :06 - 13. That is the real flavor for your taste buds.

  • Not a sax...it's a trumpet. But yes...very nice!

  • where can i buy that guitar strap? does anybody know? :)

  • Just by the Stevie Ray Vaughan Guitar...It comes with it.

  • Just buy the SRV guitar...it comes with it.

  • lol

  • hahahha awesome

  • dood john kicks ass at guitar

  • you're stupid

  • he would be doing back flips if he cared about showing off. hes obviously playing music with his hands and guitar. What the hell could you possible be talking about? If anything hes bringing blues back to popularity. Listen to BB King Live at the Regal theater and listen to all the screams that blues used to get. You will notice a similarity with the response he gets when playing he blues.

  • if he cares about showing off more than playing music then why is his music so popular? and why are you watching and listening to him?

  • Kick ass strat.

  • it's hilarious to watch this then watch videos from his last tour and see what a difference 4 years makes when PR people get ahold of you... He doesn't make those faces anymore... haha.

John Mayer v1.0, I would call this...

v1.0 is pre- John Mayer Trio appx. 2000-2004

v2.0 is Trio to Where The Light Is 2004-2008

v3.0 is what we have now... He's two shirts on in this vid and now you can't get him to wear one....

  • Oh, my god. John Mayer knows how to play the blues!!!! He goes onstage with his Fender Strat and pulls out a can of whip-ass!!!!

Man, this guy is so awesome.

    He's Slowhand, Jr.!!!

  • those facial expressions..4 everything else thers mastercard!

  • listen to the comment in audio

  • how do you listen to it in audio?

  • copy the comment, paste it on the comment box and hit "audio preview".

sick solo by the way, and he's gotten so much better, and still improving!

  • OK lets go over this video. . . . . bee-dah a - boo- la-la-lee-la-la-bum-too-tooo-altee-tee-de bum- ohh-lahh-lahh-lee-lee-lee-bum-say-say-say-say-neee nee-nee-nee-ohhhhhh-al-la-laah-lah-ah-ah-la-la-hoooo-eeeeeeeeee

  • hahaha

  • shift between huge generalisations. funny as

  • What the hell don't you get, he's an awsome guitarist. Nothing you ever say will change that dude, soz

The very fact that he's in a band with Steve Jordan AND Pino Palladino show that he is a world class musician and song writer

I know its hard not being that dude, but lets not start saying he's not the dogs bollocks, coz even if you don't like his music you can't knock his musicianship

and if you do, then you're a dumbass

  • what do you mean by wrong? are you a blues purist who thinks he's screwing it up or a pop fan who thinks blues is the worst thing since the conception of the yankees?

  • thats cool, we just disagree on that one. i like john mayer's music (not his early stuff, his trio and blues stuff) but he's certainly nowhere close to the talent robert johnson.

  • ever hear of kevin breit?

  • What good is it Trash talking artists?

are your bands that bad that you have to call everything you hear thats better than them trash or vomit?

  • Wow... you sir are a moron... you just called john mayer an idiot, the VERY poorly defended your misplaced claim with an angry rant about how his music is simply bad. Why? how? does he have bad tone? (actually he has one of the best out there) in your mind is his voice not up to par? maybe his riffs arent unique enough (remember we're talking about blues here genius) stop sounding like an idiot and say something useful please, not just opinionated shit

  • and he said that R kelly was a blues musician. hahahaha. what a dumbass

  • well you probably dont understand alot of things if you hear something wrong with that. im not a fan of his records, but he is a good guitar player and im a fan of that. he does some really good SRV covers. he is just feeling it man, it doesnt mean he thinks hes god. if he doesnt feel it, no one else will.

  • U need 2 stop hating on Mayer. Yeah no1 will ever replace SRV. But alot of people play just like him.Not the same but similar. It's just music man. DIG IT

  • you sent this as a reply to me??? what the fuck are you talking about? i just said i dig that shit...i am assuming that was an accident and you're talking to someone else.

  • lol. i was like wtf is yozo talkin bout. any ways mayer rocks.

  • wow. i Love the rise in this one.

  • Damn...the man can play. I wish the rest of the video was up.

  • he looks drunk as hell

  • lol his facial expressions are a little over the top. eh idk i guess i'm just not a fan.

  • good... not for so.. but still blues!

  • Mayer's the type of person who laughs at their own jokes, any way you spell it in any language, he is a douche bag. he's in my top five celebrity tools.

  • His facial expressions are pretty funny, awesome playing.

  • He is best friends with American Tennis star James Blake!!!

  • Hey he's having a good time and clownin'. Thats part of the fun when its fun! Thats magic. In respect for the blues he has his chops down. Wonder what he'll sound like in 10 years. Its all growth.

  • This guy brings shame for blues and guitar!

He looks and acts retarted,so full of himself, yet he can't play!

    Sings like shit!

Totally a waste of time this guy is!

  • but of course it's well worth listening to you

  • agreed totally, Mayer is nothing compared to Stevie Ray Vaughan...... I believe the first thing you have to have when becoming a successful musician is being humble about your music, not full of one's self.... he really shows how immature he can be in front of crowds of girls that are screaming........ just play the damn music and don't make a comedy show out of it...... he never left the pop family

  • dude is high as fuck

  • I get to see him LIVE in August! Never in my life wanted summer to fly by so fast!

  • Wow. Great analogy there.

You fail. Mayer is as legit a blues player I've seen since Stevie Ray. And he has the chops to prove it.

  • I mean DUDE, what exactly are you looking for that mayer doesn't offer for you, there, huh???, not slow enough, not loud enough, not into it enough???? bwahahahaha

  • dude JM is probably one of the greatest blues guitarists of our generation... like, wtf how could you even say that hes a "lazy" blues player with no heart. he puts as much feeling into his playing as SRV did

  • that's right and if you've heard him lately he's every bit his equal - growth is a strange thing y'see: it takes time :) give him more and he'll reach a level even stevie and jimi never got the chance to get to :)

  • wrong, he won't make it that far, he doesn't have the humbleness like SRV did...........even if he did make it that far, he won't get the public view from the crowd that genuinely loves the blues, he will still be watched only by those that follow pop bands.

  • he already gets insane crowd draws from all walks of life - who says you have to keep music seperate, why cant he play blues and rock and pop and everything under the sun, and have all kinds of people show up to see him do it? (which he does, which is great) and why cant he get as talented as srv and jimi when he's like 40, 50, 60? At this rate of growth something tells me it's completely possible, after all, theyre both human beings....and theyre both in the same profession. its happening.

  • oo, I know he could make it that far, anyone CAN make it that far. but I mean he wouldn't have the same view as if he were to start with the blues instead of pop. If he feels sincere about both of his styles of music, then that's great, but there's one of his videos I've seen along the line that looks like he's mocking the blues, and it's not his guitar face. He raises his hand for people to cheer for him, that's another thing that annoys me. If he's good enough, he wouldn't have to do that.

  • well thats when we are wrong to even compare him to srv in the first place, he is his own person and has his own things that he likes to do,i just see something like that as harmless fun, the beatles did that ALL the time and nobody complained, they threw in a "ooooooo" somewhere and enough girls cheered to cover up any mistake the might make, the only difference is johhny isnt covering anything up, he's just having fun up there, and you can do that under any style, ask Buddy (hes fun! see him!)

  • of course he won't get the genuinely loving blues crowds. you wanna know why? because those crowds are getting smaller. the newer generations aren't into this stuff.

  • I know, and that's very sad........ we need to get more guitarists/bands that play the real blues to play in the mainstream of music

  • That is another reason why his music is so good, the group of blues fans are really small but thanks to him it is growing again. Listening to mayer has makes people aware of SRV or Buddy Guy or BB King, without his music they would not know anything about those artists

  • and also, notice how back in the day it was mostly black people playing the blues ex. bb king, buddy guy, freddi king. Now they all listen to rap. i doubt there will be a black blues famous guitarist anytime soon. thats pretty sad cause they got it in them

  • If what you were saying is true then he would only b listen 2 by 14yr old girls How many older people actually listen to true pop music His music doesnt have a genre or age group I went 2 the show he had at grant park and I can tell you 20,000 ppl didnt show up to see Robert Randolph & Most of the ppl were older if you are looking for him to be accepted by real blues fans look no further then his peers clapton buddy guy bb king if they accept & like his music that is all the credibility he needs

  • my point is he wants people to cheer for him way too bad rather than letting his music make the cheering happen....

  • Interesting. I thought the last time you wrote this exact same comment on another video that it was gonna be your "last Mayer bash". Seriously, your work out analogy is nonsensical and ill conceived and certainly not clever enough to repeat - but clearly you can't stay away from "bouncyball" Mayer, little girl. (Side bar... is spelling, grammar and punctuation too hard for you, lazy bastard?) Bwaaaaaaaaaaahaaahahaha.

  • Knew he could play guitar pretty well.

    But, Oh my god.

    :O

  • man does john mayer think es srv or somthin with the strap lol still good thoguh

  • i love his faces!

  • yes...and you can find the strap on fender-com if i'm not mistaken...when it comes to electric guitar and straps, he does none other than fender.

  • You can hear Clapton's influence all througout that. Pretty sweet

  • this was come back to bed right?

  • yes.

  • John is so frikin COOOL....man, I love this guy!!! He's really awesome

  • who was on the horn in the beginning of the vid?

  • Yep... Dude Mayer's old Ego rocks this one, so to say...

  • He's fucken bad

  • OOOHHH!! wheres the rest!! this is great! i had this biggest smile on my face watchin this! if there is a rest to this id love to see it

  • Ive noticed that he didnt have as much control over his guitar faces way back then, or at least they were different...he he. Great video though.

  • I envy your ability to get amazing tickets.

  • You. Are. So. Lucky. I love it! :) Go Melbourne!

    xx

  • thats ridiculously close
