In case you're interested, I've written a book titled The Naked Truth About Drugs. You can read free excerpts at my website - just add dotcom to the title.
I think its important to realize that the 'war on drugs' is an excuse to confiscate private assets from harmless users (millions going to the DEA) and incarcerate high numbers of, mostly, African-Americans.
He is favourable to madical cannabis, also he has consitently voted against any laws that reduce liberties under the pretext of the so called war on drugs
I smoke weed, it's safe. Lots of drugs are. Cigarettes and ALcohol are the two most addictive substances I've ever had and I wonder how the hell can they sell that addictive shit?!
Now please don't take this comment as me saying that I disagree with everything you've said, but I do think there is a little logic lost in the reduction in drug crimes.
Of course there will be less drug crime if drugs are legal. If killing people was legal, there would be a 0% homicide rate! But that doesn't mean people wouldn't be getting killed! Get it?
You don't get it, actually. A 0% homicide rate would mean no one is killing anyone - regardless of the legality of murder. FBI reports support the fact our crime rate will go down over 50% with prohibition repeal.
Read crime blotter reports from the last of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th and you will find no reports of drug crime. And there were no drug dealers, either. All narcotics (including heroin) were legally available from grocery stores, pharmacies - and even the Sears Roebuck catalog. And while they may have committed crimes under the influence, it had nothing to do with the actual acquisition of the drug. Therein lies the difference you have yet to understand.
No dude, that's the stupidest fucking logic ever. Have you even smoked pot or done any drugs? Don't you know that people get killed over drugs just because they are illegal? If they were legal, then quite a number of gangs would not have funding. They should just put a label on it and make it where you have to be 21 to consume the shit. By taxing drugs, we'd seriously reduce drug crimes. Like seriously reduce them.
Want to put this out there(personal experience)-prescribed powerful narcotics and told its OK to drive to work..have met many in physical therapy who drive themselves on painkillers everyday...I think everyday about how many people are DUI on prescription drugs as I commute to work...Not afterhours from partying..I would love to know the statistics on DUI offenses for prescription vs. illegal...
From my personal experience driving while taking semi-synthetic morphine drugs such as Vicodin for pain, the impairment is minimal. I believe the real danger is that recreational users more often than not consume alcohol along with the drugs. That combination is what creates the danger to others on the roadways. Those taking the medications strictly for pain (and with no booze) are less affected, as the pain relief allows them to function normally, including their ability to drive.
Yeah, but what I think you are talking about is personal responsibility, rather than what a drugs MAKES you do. I have taken numerous drugs and have never ever, by my own rules, been on the road. Its like hearing someone say "oh, I was drink and didn't know what I was doing." Its not the alcohol, its the level of personal responsibility.
It is absolutely true the drug war is misguided and detrimental. We should be giving people accurate information on how to use drugs safely and encouraging personal responsibility, not ignorance and conformity. It is the pathetic, unrealistic way our culture and legal system deals with drugs that is a major factor in why they get abused and used in unsafe ways.
Thank you for your comments. I've written a book titled The Naked Truth About Drugs. It's available thru Amazon, or by adding dotcom to the title, which takes you to my website where you can read free excerpts before deciding to order. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. All the best.
Quit moaning, man. If you're so worried about people harming themselves and others you should try to get beer banned. Getting drunk is WAAAAAY more dangerous than smoking weed.
im not holding you responsible, im simply downing your beliefs, even though you are not responsible, countless others are responsible for the deaths of thousands of people because of your beliefs... and yes that has happened to me... and im sorry for any previous remarks that may have seemed as an attack. and any vulger langauge i may have said. but i was blinded by anger because someone has the audacity to post a video like this.
ummm....ok people die due to the fact that they O.D. on drugs, not because america banned it...dude your a dumbass for posting this video, sure that might be true, but it doesnt say that thousands of people die from drugs because they dont "know" how to stop, wanna "know" something? alot of the people that end up in moruges normaly werent ever doing the drugs, dude your an idiot, go play in traffic
Thanks for your articulate expression of thought, but you're wrong to say people die from drugs mainly because they do not "know" how to stop: virtually all unintended heroin deaths result from users unaware of the purity level of their dose. And your morgue reference makes no sense. However, being labeled both a dumbass and an idiot and then told to go play in traffic by someone in the "know" is classic...
ok you think drugs are so great right, try this, a mother and her 3 year old son are driving home after droping her older son off at a friends house, suddenly from the right comes a car going 120 down a 30 mph road, the 3 year old son dies instantly, the mother has to endure 10 hours of surgury only to have the docters tell her oldest son and husband that she's not gonna make it...
think drugs are so fucking great just becuase they pull you out of the reched thing that can loosly be called your life? why not try dealing with having 2 people you loved and cared for pulled out of your life all because somoene thought they "knew"
Your anger, however valid, is misplaced. I'm sorry for any loss you have had, but to hold me and what I believe responsible or complicit is wrong. If you would like to continue a dialogue with me, fine - but you'll need to drop the profanity and personal attacks. And better grammer sure wouldn't hurt...
I do not think drugs are "great," as you say, and I have sympathy for any family that endures such a loss as you describe - whether it was drug related or not. Is this situation you describe one that has happened to you? Your anger and grief seem too intense for no personal involvement.
Good point...

No, you don't get it! You won't have a drug crime rate if there's no such thing as a drug crime because you've made it legal!

I do understand. The crime rate for the actual acquisition of the drug goes to 0 because that is no longer classed as a crime!
