  • at first... i was getting mad at you steve LOL but towards the end ! you made it clear. that!! HFCS is bad in large amounts of it, like anything else. Shoot! as a guy, who was working out hard, 4 days a week, 35 minutes a day. I was losing nothing! i was losing weight so slow. That is! until I took out items with high fructose corn syrup, I began to see the number on the scale go down. I also realize that! most items with it are higher in calories, compare the labels guys!

  • this guy is the real expert!!!

  • I avoid HFCS for the sheer fact that it's made by chemical process rather than by nature. People think it's natural because it starts with corn syrup, little do they know that it goes through a nasty chemistry process to make it into HFCS, involving very toxic and caustic chemicals. watch the documentary "King Corn" and see the two filmakers make HFCS in their kitchen, with chemicals so dangerous they have to wear gloves and masks to handle it. that's what they're putting in your food!

  • Chicken wings are an excellent source of protein.

It's my understanding HFCS is metabolized by the liver. If you consume it long term it will probably be detrimental to your health.

  • @tilt1981 All fructose sugars need to be broken down by the liver. Even fruits. Glucose is what causes a blood sugar spike, but if you're an athlete that trains hard/consistently,..glucose is needed after a workout to replenish glyocgen levels in the muscles so you can recover better. And chicken breast would be leaner and better for you than chicken wings.

  • dang i didnt see this before writing to you

  • @TheRogueMonk LOL! No problem.

  • if you stay away from stuff in packages that is processed you won't have a problem with fructose in your diet.

  • @trevormac77 I know. I told one of my brothers that is 23. I am 27. I told him that I´m gonna eat fruits with my protein shake after working out and he said that he had heard that fructose is bad and that it´s almost as bad as the white table sugar.

  • @xMarucsFenixX that is because fruit is different when they are in fruit form...

you cant just make everything out of 1 fact

fruite is so healthy and good you couldt get fat by eating them .. cause the way its digested is way different then spoons of fructose or normal suger

  • @trevormac77 i think the code is to eat normal and workout .. i mean it high nutritent foods and not over eat .. if you can sometimes eat anything it wont matter

  • Eat ALOT of dark leafy vegetables see how fat you get!

  • @sabbathcrazy Sorry, big legs. Not many guys have that problem.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV true, I have chicken legs

  • What's wrong with chicken wings?

  • @SoldoutGodchaser he prob didnt mean the normal ones you buy in the gross he prob meant fried chiken

  • People don't die of morbid obesity at the age of 40 due to HFCS! Not taking care of themselves kills their fat asses!

  • Contrary to what he says high fructose is in most processed foods. High fructose syrup is even found in some foods labeled "all natural," even though it can only be manufactured using an industrial centrifuge. Go ahead and eat it if you want to, but the reality is that HFCS is JUNK which has been pushed unwittingly onto the American consumer by the agrobusiness corporations, who really don't care if somebody dies of morbid obesity at 40.

  • Sorry, this guy is too basic - this corn syrup has been proven to increase the chance of type 2 diabetes onset and cancer. And yes it does contribute significantly to increases of obesity.

Get the facts right and stop thinking on such a basic level of calories in and calories out, or do more research!!

  • @claudruiz of course he is too basic, he is just giving a personal opinion and probably he is not qualified to talk about the topic. If you want serious information you should listen to a scientist. There is a very good video: Sugar, the bitter truth

  • Steve,

    become a beachbody coach!!

  • HFCS is NOT in 99% of processed foods. You need to do some serious research in what HFCS is without all the mindless conspiracy theories and how HFCS is a threat to your democratic system of government. I was suspicious of the whole HFCS attack back in 2004. BUT..I went along and removed all HFCS foods from my diet. There weren't many. Well just like the ORGANIC food movement...a whole bunch of mindless horseshit for people who've given up or never practiced solid and clear deductive reasoning.

  • Partial list of "Artificial Sweeteners": saccharin, aspartame, neotame, acesulfame-k, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol (alcohol sugars). This is not a complete list. GM foods: corn, soy, canola, potato, tomato, squash! Canada is supposed to be a 'democracy'. It definitely is not; because we no longer have a choice of what's in our every day food items, such as bread and cereal! A little research goes a long way. The #6 ingredient in special K is HFCS/ in Canada, #2

  • Yeah they mentioned the part about half Fructose/half Glucose. I was also suprised to hear that HFCS comes from Corn Starch. I though it was some man made substance with lots of chemicals and such. No, it's basically a pretty natural substance from what I understand.

  • ConservativeHealth,.. that was an interesting video on HFCS. I'm afraid I went along with the crowd and replaced all HFCS foods..(there were only a few), with Non-HFCS foods, without ever doing any research to learn what HFCS really is. My change away from HFCS has resulted in excatly ZERO lbs. of weight lost. Now I understand why. A very good trainer and nationally known health/fitness writer I know has never written even ONE article on HFCS. Now I know why. It's all BULLSHIT and he knows it.

  • Remember, HFCS is half fructose which minimally affects blood sugar.

  • I encourage all Conservative Americans to eat as much High-Fructose Corn Syrup as they like.

  • You guys sound ridiculous. HFCS is NOT the cause of all the obesity. Please get sense of proportion. Is high fructose corn syup a PLUS in any program.....NO, but it's not a government conspiracy. I replaced all the HFCS foods in my diet with the like food items that had NO HFCS. There weren't that many I must say,..but there were a few. This change has resulted in NO weight loss whatsoever. NONE! Zip...ZERO.

  • They're only saying that cus they don't want to take responsibility for their actions. It's easier to blame it all on HFCS instead of being lazy asses and over eating and making bad food choices. Common sense would tell you HFCS is not to blame.

  • Well put!!! Good Point!!

  • King Corn is a good documentary. It gives you insight from the farms to the cattle to the stores.

  • HFCS is poison just like sugar is. If ignoring this fact meant that you would simply destroy YOURSELF then I'd say go for it. But the destruction that HFCS, sugar and processed foods cause is financially destroying America as a whole. The management of diabetes in coming decades is going to be financialy devastating to our economy. Why the hell should I have to pay for some slob to get a sugar high?

  • Hi Fructose corn syrup is the downfall of Americans! Its a DRUG that is worse thats HEROIN. The body requires glucose & when its low, the brain acts on to find Chips, Fries, Snickers etc. Why not a salad or Broccoli? No Sugar. The Food industry needs you to buy their food. Read labels! Its even in all sausage meat? Why its addictive! 2005 CDC announced a US 60% obesity crisis! 6 out of 10 in a room is obese. See what technology get us? Think the food Ind thrives on health food? Laugh...

  • buy groceries get free High Fructose Corn Syrup or secretly known as mercury google it up!

  • Again about aspartame. The problem with artificial sweeteners is that, like sugar, they are very addictive since they act like sugar to satisfy sugar cravings. So in essence, although you have to eat a huge amount of artificial sweeteners to get sick, they may be very easy because they are addictive, and they are in alot of the foods we eat.

  • This is kind of like the whole deal behind aspartame or all of the artificial sweeteners. Yes, I'm sure it is very bad for you and that people have developed brain tumors and other stuff from ingesting aspartame, but you ever notice it's only from when they ingest huge amounts? I hear people blame aspartame for giving them migraines, but they drink about 10 diet cokes a day. I have never heard of anyone getting a brain tumor or migraine from drinking soda every once in a while.

  • You probably won't get a tumor or cancer from one exposure to anything (failing going inside a nuclear reactor unprotected), it's the prolonged effect which changes cell structures. Logically the less exposure you have the less chance, the more expose the more chance. But you don't know exactly how much or how your body will react (extent of resistance to cellular degradation). There are many factors, best to avoid 100% Life is very important.

  • hfcs is icky and it don't taste as good as table sugar( natural sugar tastes the best)

  • My comments below this one are directed at logtype47. Stupid thing didn't put the reply under his post.

  • Your advice would be ok if everyone worked out regularly and ate the fruits. vegatables and legumes they should instead of processed crap. But realistically, if you are a credible expert, you should be advising mainstream America to avoid HFCS like the plague! If you've done YOUR research, you should know why I say this. We should have the right to drink a Coke without being chemically poisoned. Not to mention it's put in so many foods that YOUNG children who are too young to "make choices".

  • AGREE!!! You need to read up more and not believe the marketing crap. You know most of marketing is lies, I've seen your opinions in the other videos, so why not be critical about this. It's pure filth and it should be illegal to sell!! Makes me mad that they can get away with putting effectively poisons in our foods. Natural foods as ONLY!!!

  • @claudruiz I agree, why not take the opportunity to recommend to people to eat as many WHOLE foods as possible? Because it's a known fact that doing so will lead to better health. Instead he's just poo poo-ing the people who are critical of HFCS, which does nothing to address the core problem -- the obesity epidemic. Very disappointed by this video.

  • Steve: Careful who we call 'Extremist'. The time and effort you spend in the gym is a convincing demonstration of your own Extremist approach to fitness. I can almost say with certainty that you are loaded with protein shakes full of synthetic muscle enhancing chemicals. I'm sure you are well aware of what this does to your liver over time. Instead you seem to be fanatically driven to develop a comic book physique.

  • Keep watching my videos. I'm the ONLY trainer who says you DON'T NEED protein shakes. Nor do I tell anybody to train like me. I'm simply giving out free ACCURATE advice for people who want to achieve their physical needs. But I certainly appreciate the analysis.

  • Come on Steve.

Is it really 'extremist' for a person to scrutinize these food chemicals that have been proven to increase weight and wreck havoc on the body.

Instead I would encourage people avoid additives/chemicals and focus on consuming foods as close to the source as possible (ie. - organic foods that have minimal or no processing.

  • You also need to understand the science behind sugar. HFCS is a combination of glucose and fructose. Fructose is absorbed slowly by the intestines and then broken down by the liver so it doesn't spike blood sugar. But extremists will still believe differently. Just like people thought the world was flat.

  • Would you agree that HFCS is not recognized by the body and is stored in fat. Due to it's processing this product does not qualify as natural and is best described as a chemical. As humans, our bodies are better equipped to consume a diet consisting of whole unprocessed food. Frequent consumption of synthetic 'food like' substances are a insult to the body's constitution and should be avoided.

  • Steve: The 'science you are quoting' is largely sponsored by the corn industry and does not come from a independent 3rd party source. The truth about HFCS is becoming mainstream. The Corn Refiners ads have sparked peoples interest on the topic and they are researching the facts independently and are finding out about the damaging effects of HFCS.

  • Hardly, the digestion and utilization of glucose and fructose is based on science, not spin!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree. have a look at the chemrisk video on youtube. the science behind the manufacturers of HFCS is totally slanted in their favor to promote the sale of corn syrup. HFCS is a genetically altered chemical. the body does not recognize it. cocaine, ethenol, sweet crude oil are all made from naturally obtained ingredients. if a person advised you to consume these items in moderation, you would instantly dismiss them.

  • Steve, get over the basics of the science of food calories and read into corn syrup's long-term effects, it's really bad stuff and you shouldn't make out it's somewhat alright - no where near chicken wings!! Only superficially in so far as people ingest it, but you're not analysing the situation enough.

Read up about it and the tests they've done on animals. Otherwise you'll lose your credibility!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV but is high corn syrup really as natural and easy and "normal" to the body? or is this a consentrated form of sugar that is almost manufactured

its one thing if its from nature the other thing is if its new nature is soft on our nature

  • True. If people ate only chix and veggies they would be a lot thinner. But they don't. And thanx. Big legs.

  • Yea, but the reality is that people don't over eat vegetables and plain chicken breasts. They over eat twinkies and chees doodles and burgers. Thats the problem.

    Oh, and nice shorts.

  • i think twinkies should be banned from the world=]

  • 24/m/CA

It's true...processed food really, truly is addictive. For example, whenever I'm eating chips, I have to exert will power and "cut myself off" after a serving or two.

For some reason "healthier" (aka "less processed") food doesn't have that addiction factor.

I'm not sure if it is chemicals, or the processing, or both, but this is truth.

  • I agree with your main point, BodyPerformance, that we need to have a balanced approach to health and fitness and not blame obesity on any one thing. I would however disagree with your dismissal of how pervasive HFCS is. It is in many many products. Things that you wouldnt think of having it, such as bread, lunch meat, etc. It is not a natural sweetener and is known to contain such unpleasant things as mercury. HFCS is bad new, and while not soley responsible it IS playing a role in obesity.

  • HFCS is made from genetically modified corn and goes through chemical processing. Fructose is a naturally occuring sugar, but high fructose is not. It doesn't act the same in the body as normal sugar and doesn't have the same insulin reaction. This causes you to crave more of it!! Manufactures love this because you buy and consume more product. HFCS is in EVERYTHING!!! Read your labels!

  • Yes do that!! Urgent!! Do not eat it, it's cheap dangerous corporate filth. Natural brown sugar or natural sugars in fruit when you need the sugar.

  • However, I am reminded of the Corn Refiners Spoof on Youtube about HFCS that accutally goes into the science behind it and how it really does effect our bodies badly.

  • his thighs are huge whoah!!!

  • hfcs is EVIL, OBESITY is Satan's wonder

  • theres a video of him without his shirt off so look at it

  • There are lots of things that have extra sugar in them or on them and that includes chicken wings!!! That sauce has sugar in it. From those sports drinks to crackers there is added sugar to different types of foods which makes it easy to gain weight because our bodies desire sweet tastes which gives us quick energy. PEACE

  • i dont think you can eat allot of ice and become fat

  • y rn't YOU the clever one

  • driink enough water you will be so why shouldnt ice do the same

drinking enough water can kill you look it up it has hapened before

  • Even if HFC syrup is in everything, what's the worst it can do? Some people don't get the message here.

Like Steve mentioned, if you eat too much of ANYTHING, you will get fat, be it fruits, vegetables, sodas, candy, meat, potatoes, etc. Some foods are more fattening than others.

  • Worst it can do is vastly increase chance of type 2 diabetes and cause cancer. Oh and also hyperactivity in children, loss of concentration and a whole lot of other things.

A lot of artifical sugars cause cancer, like saccerine as well. Plus it has shows to have addictive properties to the brain, like other junk food like McDonalds.

  • you are talking about a product that is in virtually EVERYTHING. It is just a CHEAP substitute for SUGAR. a chicken wing is FAR better to be eating than an ice pop with high fructose corn syrup. juices? they arent juices, its all corn syrup and flavoring! It's rediculous! It's in everything, and it IS causing people to become obese! you think that restaurants are the only leading cause to obesity? well you need to do some research because this corn syrup stuff is ruining our bodies.

  • People get overweight from over consuming calories. You're such a conspiracy nut, Mr. Chickenz.

The reason HFCS is cheap is because we, *DUH*, produce a ton of corn in this country. Anything in a surplus will be cheap.

Japan has a lot of rice. They have a lot of cheap products based on sugars, milks and alcohols which are made from rice. The same is true of the USA and corn since we have the right conditions to produce a lot of corn.

Nobody is out to get you with deadly corn.

  • Wrong!!! We are spending extra money to produce a lot of corn to make it cheap so that we have a surpluss. Then the gov an make its precious CHEAP high fructose corn syrup. Hence the reason we have it in almost everything. And yes it is contributing to obesity, no it is not the only thing, but it is a major part. And you, the idiot who made this video, you are a fool. Evertone of your videos that I have seen, are absolutly wrong. I know we have freedom of speech in this country so I say SHUT UP!

  • @Got2Bfunny lol he must have had atleast 3 videos where he states obvious and common sense facts which everyone knows ..s o how could all his videos be wrong?

i mean is he not living and looking well? so atleast some credit to the fact that he eats the same things as you guys and lives and is fitt

  • Damn there's a lot of haters on Youtube.

  • wheres your soul? oops i farted and destroyed it. gg

  • should i just try to stay away from all sugar or can some not hurt at allcause it can hurt your muscle gains right

  • I don't think Steve know a lot about High Fructose Corn Syrup

  • Agree!! He knows very little apart from his elementary knowledge of the dynamics of food and calorific value. Well that's what he shows in this video anyway...

  • This is just not true. Satisfying our "hunger" is the major concern. Any food containing large amounts of sugar such as HFCS does not satisfy our "hunger" Eating low carbohydrate does satisfy "hunger" without overeating.

  • HFCS is almost inside of everything you eat, drink if your not aware of whats on the BACK OF THE INGREDIENTS LISTING!!! Why not LQQK up "Hydrogenated or Fractionated" then you should go back to HFCS...lmao...M O R O N S

  • post-workout, put it in a protien shake. Works great for repairing muscles faster.

  • What's with the tags...Obama, McCain, Russert, marketing, oil..? Trying to get more views?

  • Duh dumb shit...

  • you should watch ronni coleman eat chicken.

    Good old chicken

  • thanks Steve! wow Visine420lol...that's about me...except for the drinks!

  • you would be surprised at the number of foods that have High Fructose Corn Syrup in them.

  • 24/m/CA Seriously...if ppl actually read food labels, they'll realize HFCS is in products you wouldn't expect: -bread/rolls/buns/biscuits -chocolate milk -drinks labeled "fruit juice beverage" (ex. SunnyD, CapriSun, Minute Maid, etc.) -energy drinks like RockStar -sports drinks like Gatorade -sausages -lunchmeat -TV dinners -condiments (ex. salad dressing, ketchup, bbq sauce, tartar sauce, etc.) -in restaurants, pretty much every glaze/sauce served w. food, even blue cheese for wings
  • Yikes.

  • Our wealth is an illusion. The bubble will break and then you'll see how rich we are.

  • when you said chicken wings i got hungry just there .... lucky for me tho im workin out 4 days a week

  • nice approach to the topic, Steve. I am loven' my body! :)

  • I'm not aware of any "extremist" who blame obesity on this "one thing". Please let us know who these people are.

  • actually, there are a ton of people who blame obesity on carbs and things like that. carbs do not make you fat, its an excess of calories that makes you fat. its all about calories in vs. calories out.

  • I suspect that's an overstatement. But still... I'd like to hear names... so that I can evaluate their positions for myself. I've heard many (accurately) profess that high fructose corn syrup is a big contributor to obesity... but I've not hear anyone make the claim that it's the sole contributor. Names please.

  • just visit some forums and messageboards on fat loss, nutrition, etc like i do and youll see where im coming from.

  • I'm referring to Steve's comments in the video. I'm asking Steve who the "extremists" are that he is talking about. I dont think anybody credible is saying that obesity is caused by this "one thing".

  • you can label most woman with Extremist when it comes to sugar. I know a bunch of woman that swear that Corn Syrup will make you fat, even in small amounts.

like 1 can of soda = 3 pounds of fat gain. @_@ crazy.

  • I was just trying to figure out who Steve was referring to... if he's just referring to messageboard contributors... then I'll just give a big yawn and move on.

  • OMG...all of the trendy diets, pick one...they pollute the airwaves with their shtick.

  • thanks steve. I did the eat anything at a good portion, and I lost weight. But, I got so obssessed with my weight, that I tried "eating healthy" and it backfired, and I gained 10lbs after. I gotta stick to what you preach Steve!

  • this guy rocks i went from 216 to 170 all i do is an hr workout a day and keep my cal. intake around 1800 i even still drink on sat. and sun.

i count the booze into my cal. count for the day

( did this in 90 days :P ) thanks steve you have been a great help........LOVE YOUR BODY.......

  • Good vid and content.

  • another great video, steve

  • Bravo!!! Thank you for posting this video.. Well said..
