Hi. I have a big (more than 4GB!) file .TS (h264/avc/@4.0, 1920x1080i50) + audio DD ac3, 5.1 "oth"
how to do to get it to playback fine on my PS3 (video hdmi, audio optical, I dont remember now the fw...surely later than 3.0) => but with *REAL* audio 5.1 (ac3 passthru), not 2 ch only, no pcm!!
is this possible (via USB, or from a dvd/data bluray disc) ?
it seems umpossible, but I am no expert.
can you help me please. I'd be very grateful to you.
The link for your wiki website isnt working. Is it still up? I am having a problem with playing videos on my ps3 i have put on my mac using handbrake. I dont want to have to re-encode them all. In future should i select the PS3 option under the toggle presets in handbrake?? Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks for the new link. I downloaded MP4box for my MAC and when i run it it says that the library was not loaded as it has an incompatible version. Any hints on how to get the 36.0.0 or later version? thanks
Actually, go back to gogotechnology and try the link again. I've uploaded a different build of MP4box (the build I use). It should work for both PPC and Intel platforms.
Ok, that worked, thanks. Also, the next step is in regards to hex editor and obtaining the profile level. How exactly is this done, and what hex editor do you recommend? Thanks. Sorry for all the questions
right, but when you change the resolution from 720x480 to 640x whatever, you will notice some gnarly aliasing problems especially with animation. and quicktime pro costs money. you can change the container with another free program called 'mkv2vob'. a good video with some methods I wasn't aware of and some info I wasn't entirely aware of. thanks!
Thanks, this worked perfect for me. However, I didn't have to save the file as a .mov first. I could simply open my mp4 or m4v file, do a passthrough with Quicktime and I was good to go on my PS3. Great information nonetheless, it saved me a lot of headache.
I've been trying to find a way to change the high profile level because High@l4.1 is not working. I can't open the file in quicktime at all, only VLC player. I'm using Mac OSX and Mp4 box doesn't seem to work. What can I do to find out the header info of my MP4 on Mac OSX? Is Hexediting the only way I'll be able to change the profile level?
Well, try playing the video without the perian codec to see if you get the option. Basically, if Quicktime itself can't play it natively, then you won't be able to use the Passthrough option. You may still be able to play the video on the PS3 if the problem is the Level being too high (over 4.1) If that is the case, check out the About This Video for a link to my wiki on instructions for that.
Damn, still doesn´t work. Tried without Perian, Quicktime wouldn´t play it. I´ve tried several other formats, but Quicktime just wont let me choose Passthrough as an option :-(
The HIGH PROFILE LEVEL fix on your Wiki worked perfectly for me! After days of searching for a way out of re-encoding on the Mac, you provided the answer, THANKS!
I used Handbrake and followed this tutorial, but am still getting "The data type is not supported." I converted many movies before Handbrake had a PS3 export preset. I noticed that the differences between the PS3 and default presets are that reference frames and b-frames are set to 2 for the PS3. Is there any way to fix this without re-encoding?
I wonder if the Level is too high? The PS3 only takes up to level 4.1. Anything marked higher (5.1 is common) will not work on the PS3. To find out the level try using mp4box with the info option. I only use the command line for that but I believe there is a GUI for Windows (I use a PPC binary I found that also works on Intel Macs).
Oh, if you find out that the level is too high, click on the link that I put in the About This Video. It will take you to my wiki which details what commands to use to change the level (with a hex editor) without having to transcode the video.
That is really an excellent and well elaborated approach...thanks for your time on this. I am a programmer and am wondering if a tool is out there that does this for you if not then it would be great if we work on it if your interested. Thanks.

Are you using Perian? It won't work with that.

Yes, I´m using Perian 1.1. What should I use instead?
