  • Poor Rick - this guy is so rude. He asks him a question and cuts him off mid-sentence.

  • From what I understand, Boyd Westen is actually a pretty good interviewer. However, he was informed at the last moment that he was supposed to interview Rick Danko, so he comes across as somewhat of an ass, but that's probably because he was very nervous himself.

  • That should be Boyd Masten, of course.

  • I thought Rick had a great voice.........Let me rephrase that.......Rick Danko had a fabulous voice. Listen to him on the csong "Georgia" he will and has been missed.

  • The interviewer jerk sounds and looks like the guy that kicked Wendy O Williams off his show for lecturing Mrs. Fields about the dangers of her promoting sugar.

  • haha wow, i can feel rick's nerves from 22 years away..

  • I think the interviewer is John Tesh.

  • That was a stellar Bob Dylan Impression

  • What a sweet, sweet man.

  • Big Pink oh yea ......

  • The interviewer was rude or does'nt no music history ,,Rick Danko is legendary from The Band ,,,Inducted with his group to The Rock Hall of Fame ,,the host was too busy kissing the mirror to notice great music or members when he meets them,,what a jerk

  • At first I thought it was a joke... The beginning is awful.

  • I also had the good pleasure of hanging and playing with Rick in the late 70s. It still tears at me a little to see something like this---he was just too young to go. Thanks for posting.

  • Love the man, miss him too....he was just great.

    thanks for the post!!

  • unknown band from canada ha ha

  • Danko would NEVER have converted 3.14127 into anthing intelligible. He was all about the strings. Fiddle! He had it!

  • "well here you are...an unknown canadian band"

how about "one of the greatest bands of all time with both canadian and american influence.."

  • @Fruscianteistheman: No, dipshit, the guy was right. In 1968, they WERE an unknown Canadian band.

"Canadian and American influences"?? What exactly were those Canadian influences? I'm curious to know.

  • @tomthefunky Joni Mitchell, Neil Young....

I could go on but I feel that you are taking a very aggressive stance and won't really benefit from my time.

  • @Fruscianteistheman: You can't go on. All you did was name two individual artists who just happened to be Canadian and contemporaries of the Band. Van Morrison is Irish. Would you say The Band has American and Irish influences?

  • @tomthefunky Go be mad at someone who has time to waste lol. I just don't have the spirit or volunteer in me to do the societal justice of trying to educate your ignorance and clear lack of linguistic comprehension. Seriously, I just don't care. I am musicologist from UCLA I think I know a thing or two more than you about the field. And again, please don't bother responding, because frankly I am not even going to read what your small little brain can muster.

  • @Fruscianteistheman: And you're mad at a guy who asked Rick Danko a question that wasn't to your liking.

You know, I don't doubt you are a musicologist from UCLA. You seem like a snooty little know-it-all. You're probably one of those NPR dorks.

  • crap show or not, that's a little bit of magic right there. What a great song at the end! just brillian!!

  • I love Rick . . . Seen him six times . . . RIP.

On the other hand the host is an idiot and he should have done a little research.

  • great out of tune guitat lol

  • Tommy . I have heard many of them live and met many of them . Marley , Dylan, and on and on . But Rick was for me the greatest singer of all time . He bolted on an emotional dimension that for me will never be equalled . May he rest in peace and I thank you for honouring your friend .

  • I had the honor of touring and recording with Rick with The Danko Butterfield Band for two years in the late 70's right after The Band had filmed The Last Waltz. We ere joined on many of our concerts with many of the guests that appears in the film, and I had a memorable time with Rick, Paul and all the great musicians that shared the stage with us. He was truly one of a kind, and I'm proud to have had him as a great friend, and band mate~

    Tommy Stephenson

  • @cwhites1 Wow! Your the guy who played with Rick and Paul at the Boulders Blue Note show that was recorded! That must have been a f**king blast playing with Rick and Paul in the 70s!

  • @cwhites1 I had the pleasure of seeing The Band (minus Robbie) here in Australia, I think 1986-87, shortly after Richard passed. Rick played his heart out that night, it's a gig I'll never forget being at. The Band were quite unique in that each member was a talent on his own, together they wrote/recorded/performed beautifully soulful music. I envy your friendship with Rick Danko, having never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I play his music often.

  • Tommy, what happened to Rick? He was such a bright guy and to have deteriorated like that? Very sad.

  • That nitwit "playing television" had absolutely no clue who he was interviewing. Ill-prepared, smug and disrespectful. Shameful!

  • That is John Tesh.

  • That interviewer is such a toolshed. "Play me a song, monkey"

  • I believe this is John Tesh doing the interview

  • he looked so good here. man he must've had a rough hard long 8 years. god bless you rick. sorry you had to suffer.

  • Put that idiot in front of me - He would know when its all over for him - Dumb stupid MF - Christ Rick is a life long hero - And then that dumpy arrives on th scene

  • I was frustrated at the interruptions because he wasn't wandering, he had stuff I wanted to hear, but probably a time limit. This man, what a soul, no matter what shape his voice is in, his singing is all heart and he knows, like all great singers when the pipes get older, how to put it all across, absolutely make you cry and get you just as much as the first time you heard him.

  • rick danko is &was simply brilliant, all the band are/were!

  • Nothing wrong with this interview. The host had pretty good sense of momentum, and got a lot of conversation and interest out of a fairly short segment. Danko, what a singular talent!

  • you gotta love every second of rick

    keep him in your heart

  • My God this guy asking the questions is a fucking JOKE!!!!

  • @plainview1 so true

  • I've never seen a Rick Danko performance that I didn't love. They should have skipped the vapid banter between him and the John Tesh/ Network News anchor look alike dip-shit and let Rick play 4 songs instead. You'll forever be in our hearts Rick ....

  • @LOOKN450 so true

  • they should never let a guy in a suit interview a real rock and roll hero. it will NEVER work. miss you rick and richard too. you gave us some of the best music ever heard on this planet.

  • @oshesa1 so true

  • OMG! This host is such an a-hole dick. My research finds he's some clown named Boyd Masten and hosts National Geographic T.V. Rick is such a kind soul and gentleman and just rolls with it. Go Ricky!

  • @SassyFishbone so true

  • I wanna click both thumbs:

    way up for Danko

    way down for dopey host

  • @pileowow so true

  • Comment removed

  • He was the VOICE.

  • @Chiselnyc so true

  • RIP Rick ..

  • @LBjim

  • Thanks for posting it .

  • it would have been nice if he let Rick finish a sentence!! There are so few interviews with Rick out there, it would've been nice to here him finish his stories. Great post though. Thanks

  • He never forgot his "southern" teaching and friends did he. RIP Rick! Love ya bud.

  • THANKS RICK!!! LOVE YA BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree..Rick had to be laughing at some of these questions.

  • WTF is wrong with this damned host. The Band is some unknown Canadian Band>>> try one of the most influential bands of all time you twat.

  • Poor Rick, such a great guy. That "Host" is such a dick, I just wanna punch him in the face....such a loser on his shit shack show.

  • @LocalRailfan To quote another poet "too soon gone" - oh, but he sure could sing. Rick rises above it all with his gentle, lovely performance. Too bad it cuts out before he's done, but I'm glad the camera stayed on him for as long as it did.

  • @LocalRailfan Absolutely! But notice that Rick is such a gracious person that he doesn't let it bother him too much. No use wasting energy on the guy......
