Well, thanks for being just about the only one to notice THAT! :P It's what she did when she sang it before her vocal surgery, but it's a pity that when she recorded it she didn't sing any of her really high notes! :(
Well...if she could still sing up to high A-flat...that would be incredible, but...she can't! So that's too bad. Today her high notes don't sound like squeaking!! They sound like...welll....
@ChrisStockslager But her low notes are so much better! And now she is singing things I never thought she would ever do: Violetta, Mélisande, Cleopatra, etc. :)
@SsteinwayS Don't think low notes are as important as high notes in a soprano. If they were, she'd be a mezzo. Haha. The thing is, she used to have a freakishly high upper register, that while piercing was very good. I've never been much of a fan of her acting or timbre in general, and now that the higher notes are gone, there's not much left for me to appreciate. :(. I think she should retire, rather than pull a Callas and keep going until her voice gives out.
@ChrisStockslager Not many appreciate Dessay's unique artistry...however she is not so naive that she doesn't know her limits. In fact, she has said in an interview a few years ago she estimates she has about a decade left of good singing left, precisely why she's tackling all the roles she's always wanted (but never dared) to do. It's her voice...let her be. :)
You know that video on YouTube where she's singing the "Frühlingstimmenwalzer"? That had a really nice F before the final B-flat - I used that one - but her tone there sounds different from this one's, so it was sorta awkward, but you get an idea at least!
@pataxinha The Frühlingsstimmenwaltzer by Strauss II!!

love it! I always wish she did an F there. She never did it there! She always did it in the cadenza. I love it much more over the chorus.
sour7lemon 3 years ago
I love it over the chorus too! It's so much more thrilling.
SsteinwayS 3 years ago
From what piece did you take the F from?
