Gives a beautiful, poignant picture of an England that is no longer, also reminding me of those no more in my life, one way or the other. Like with the above correspondent, I always feel a few tears when I hear it.

Sehr, sehr gut!
This piece is so deeply moving... It always reminds me of people in my life I've loved and lost. It reminds me of how cherished that time is... and it always makes me weep a little...
I don't think this is a piece that suits direction from the piano. It was originally conceived as the second movement of a concerto, thus should have a conductor, especially in the bridges of sections where there are rits. Having said that, great performance of a great piece.
Gerald Finzi discovered me while I was driving, Love's Labors Lost came on NPR and I pulled over at the side of the road. I later bought the Centenial CD and discovered Eclogue. I had never heard music like this! His harmonic approach is different then anyone I had heard before. Thank you Gerald.
It's just a poor recording. Not the solo or orchestra's fault. What a romantic piece!.It is truly a shame that not enough people know Finzi. What a talent!
Probably just because I know this piece so well, but I did notice a fair few mistakes! It may just be to do with the recording, but there were some points where there were some noticable errors.
Not to say that I love this piece so much, having played it for twelve days straight on tour (in the second violins). And I'm still not sick of it!
And I love the bit from 3:48 - 4:02! I just adore this piece!
It's a shame that Finzi suffered from the musical establishment of the 1950s - the idiots who preferred Stockhausen. Finzi was a wonderful composer who should never be forgotten as long as we can hear music
I loved it tho

The strings sound lovely, but the tempo is off by the pianist in a lot of it. Not tight.

There are few classical pieces that completely move me, even after listening a dozen times.
This one tops them all.
Thank you, Mr. Finzi. :)

For figure skating fans - Jeffrey Buttle, 2008
World's men's champion and a gifted artistic skater/stylist, skated to this composition last year. A video is available on Youtube. That
skating performance introduced me to this
beautiful piece.

I've only ever heard the Organ and piano Transcription of this...
That's damn good, but nothing on this scale!

Yes, lyrical English music at it's best-just puts me somewhere in a beautiful landscape (I'm a painter and he is an inspiration)

English music at its very best.
Totally peachy.
Gerald Finzi is way up there with the giants.
