I have an HP dv7 laptop, and this game runs easy on it. Specs: 4 GB RAM, 500GB of storage, NVIDIA Geoforce 105M 512 mb card, and an i5-430 turbo processor when playing on line. If anyone is thinking about getting a new laptop, most ones now come with graphics cards that will work fine with AOE 3, but I would recommend getting a card with at least 512 mb. My games have no lag even in giant naval battles on the highest settings. For $900-1000, you can get a great computer that plays AOE easy.

I reccommend you using a bit more money and buy an ATI HD 5770... That's a good card and it does not cost that much :)

First off, you'd need to get your RAM to at least 2 gigs. That's the standard.

What exactly is your graphics card? Regardless, a standard game-ready card would have at least 256 MB.

Have you tried putting the water reflection off. Today I tried and I had an naval battle with 5 caravels and 5 gallions against 2 gallions 6 caravels and 3 pirate ship with just about no lag. Try it.

People need to learn Game play Over Graphics Simple ... now don't get me wrong i love a game with decent graphics but it dosent mean much if the game is complete crap .. AOE 2 killed 3 in all ways except graphically .. i mean the developers dumbed down AOE 3 so much its kind of an insult to the player ... but overall its still a good game .. but its a slap in the face to vets of the RTS genre and thats the truth on the matter only flaming Fan boys will disagree or people who havent played AOE 2

Hey, I have a Pentium4 2.6 GHz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, and a 512MB GeForce 8400 GS card. The graphics should run at around medium, but even at low with everything turned off the FPS goes to hell (esp at home city). It's probably a longshot, but have any ideas what the problem could be?

As AoEFreak said, you should get the latest drivers for your video card. That can make a huge difference.

Also, even if you turn down your graphics to the lowest setting, you're still running on an ancient CPU. It's your bottleneck. You have enough RAM and a somewhat decent video card, but your CPU just can't keep up with them.

Drivers updated. You may be right. This comp is like 5 years old (no AGP or PCI-E). AOE3 did run smoother on my old GeForce 5500 FX though. Less graphics, but it worked.

Also, other games work perfectly on this card. Halo, Battle for Middle Earth 2. I fear I'll just have to live without AOE3 for a while. :C

Go download speedfan, tell me what your idle temperatures are, and what they are after playing a game for 20 + minutes.

It's very surprising. Simply put, laptops are not designed to play host to advanced gaming hardware. It costs twice as much to get the same performance from a laptop as you'd get in a desktop. Hell, even more than that.
