  • Why aren't ALL the Rap and Hip Hop guys using these guys as their musical arrangers????

  • Someone PLEASE upload the Song "Reality of My Surroundings" Bad Ass, Funky Shit!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who could do this to Curtis?

  • everything bands like red hot chili peppers, siblime and mighty bosstones wanted to be

  • @cherryorchards

funk, reggae, blues, hip hop etc... has to be watered down for the masses to gain commercial appeal.

People say Red Hot Chili Peppers are funk.People say No Doubt has elements of reggae

That's true to an extent, but a lot of people can't grasp things in their purest form.

  • Great song, great musicians. Who cares if rock, funk, rap or whatever shit you may call it. It is a moving music - that is the core.

  • They look sooooooooooo stoned in the interview!

I just started to listen to this band and I don't need to jerk off anymore as I get an orgasm everytime I listen to a Fishbone song.

  • anybody got a hold of the documentary movie or know when it comes out?

  • Yo! I just created a group an Facebook: BLACKS WHO LOVE ROCK! Join and share!

  • By the way Fishbone are great!

  • A great Cover. Classic!

  • I used to love these guys when they came out. Now I'm sort of rediscovering them. By default really because today's rock blows. This might be the only band that I actually don't hate the keyboard. This version is also way better than the original by the way.

  • truth and soul is stunning shit man !!!!

  • check out Dirty Walt and Columbus Sanatation! He worked hard to make these albums but why this got only 200 views? If you support fishbone, check out his stuff too!

  • Saw Fishbone and Primus back in 1991....SUNY Stonybrook, Great show! "PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!"

  • This is *real* black music..ha ha you guys buy that commercial bullshit...I love real shit don't care what it is...give me something you believe in....Fishbone believes...

    ***jcmcneilband***

  • Fishbone since 82.. keep doing ya thing gentlemen *salutes*

  • This is the real shit! They match up with any band in the world still till this day! please someone tell what is harder than this jam!

  • 0:53 Dr. Manhattan?!!!!!!!

  • Where the fuck does the reviewer from Allmusic.com get off saying that DGD sounds like this band? What a fucking dumbass...

  • amen fishbone

  • sick

  • ROCK IS BLACK!!!!!!!!

  • @Spankeedoodle Thank you for the meaningless, racist comment.

  • @ezekieloak WOW SINCE WHEN HAS TELLING THE TRUTH AND PURE FACT!! BECOME RACIST?????

  • @Spankeedoodle Rock has no colour.

  • @SLAPnPOP726 so does country??

  • @Spankeedoodle There doesn't have to be. Sure, most country singers/bands are in fact white, but saying that is the COLOUR white implies that any other race isn't allowed or cannot play it. So music in general has no colour.

  • @SLAPnPOP726 I agree with you on that, but History or knowledge is a good thing last time checked,I like being controversial excuse me 4 being me, and if i offended u in anyway

  • @Spankeedoodle haha you're not offending me. I'm just statin' my ideals is all. And being controversial is alright, but not just for the hell of it. It should have purpose.

  • Why don't more brothas make music like this. I mean i love hip hop and all, but this is slammin. Weezy take some notes bra. This how a brotha make a rock album.

  • I want Norwood's hat!

  • way better than the original in my opinion

  • hello - tell me you knew this was curtis mayfield's ??

  • @ockendenj hello - yeah duh, its a cover.

  • Fishbone had the greatest rhythm section in the history of rock music - bar none. I just lock into the bass drum and let it carry me.

  • It's so sad that these guys never got big, I mean like peppers did, and the saddest part is that these days there's only pop and hip-pop artists on charts..Lady gaga, justin bieber and all the others..and then there's those bands that call themselves rock but are nothing like it! I hope that one day the real music will takeover the charts.

  • The song was on their previous album "Truth and Soul"

  • i love this ver.F**ckin hustler groove!

  • Different ... i was in High school when fish bone came out.... its tight but curtis RULED?

  • no disrepect to fishbone but they just don't sound as good as they used to. it happens to many great bands. they r still better than most of what's out there today, and i would see them in a heartbeat. still a great band just not as great. and please enough with comparisons to living color. why, because they r both black bands. they have completely different sounds. living color is awesome and stands on its own.

  • FISHBONE STILL KICKS ASS IN 2010....THEY ARE STILL SOME OF THE SICKEST MUSICIANS....LIVING COLOR IS ANOTHER GREAT BAND THAT IS STILL ROCKING IN 2010. DON'T SLEEP YOU GUYS...THERE ARE FANS THAT STILL KEEP THESE GUYS PLAYING! GREAT MUSIC IS STILL OUT THERE, WE THE FANS JUST HAVE TO SEARCH FOR IT AND KEEP PEOPLE ENLIGHTENED. PEACE.

  • @Mentagasm true

  • even better than the original, sorry curtis. fishbone was one of the great bands that never quite made it on the radar. they r still good but not great like they once were. if you had the chance to see them in their prime you were lucky. what a sonic blast of ska and funk. nobody did it better.

  • @captaindaring

    what?

  • They are both incredible bands - Fishbone and Living Color. Wil Calhoun (spelled wrong?) is one of the greats when it comes to drums. Check out the 3rd buddy rich memorial Tribute scholarship concert. But NOBODY is like Fishbone, period!

  • FISHBONE=BUTT SUCKER

  • love it !!! new muz dont sound like this

  • 0.52 - that looks like if phil collins was in avatar!

  • SO awesome love Fishbone!!

  • Makes me laugh that things have gone backwards with music, no raprockmetalfunk or fusion. Just shitty repetitive hiphop that talks about 3 subjects every song or shallow pop or elitist / depressive fashionable rock factions

  • @favsncrap I wouldnt be worried about repetitive hip hop and pop rock, I would be worried about electronic music, its taking over fast, and it SUCKS.

  • @cyrezzed

No it doesn't, electronic music is some of the best music I've ever heard, in fact I plan on eventually creating some electronic music along with post rock and ambient. Which are two other great genres! You have no sense of what good music is

  • @gatheringleaves No ... I think you are not seeing the garbage out there ... with the exception of people like Skrillex and Aphex Twin and the like ... creativity is long dead .... Replaced with Brittany Spears , Beiber ... and whatever crap you think you are going to put out.

  • @favsncrap got that right...well said

  • Fishbone > Living Color

  • Fuckin groovin'

  • Fishbone's first South American Tour in 2010!

I can't wait to see them alive!!

  • Just listened to Curtis Mayfield's original. This is definitely the most famous reinterpretation of the original.

  • the most TALENTED band in the world..........bar none !!!! There'd be no 'Peppers' if it werent for the Bone.......

  • @sludgeaholic

RHCP released their first album before Fishbone even existed.

  • @StacySensation

kindly thinking, i guess he means that RHCP did not catch the right time and didnt become big in the beginning. to be honest with u, i started to hate RHCP since they released Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but there is no way to deny their greatness illustrated in the early albums. so raw, so uncut, but also contains a heck of a lot. and this fishbone song makes me think, hey, maybe curtis mayfield wasnt that good.

  • @StacySensation Fishbone was formed in '79. RHCP didn't release their first album until '84.

  • @StacySensation .....Fishbone released their 1st Ep in 1978.....

  • Fishbone

  • Wow this is the 1st time i've heard this cover of Freddie's dead. its just as good as Curtis Mayfield's

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • Check out, MASTER P "Kennys dead"

  • Love Fishbone. I remember them performing this song on Soul Train.................yep, das what I said.........lol

  • We opened for fishbone in 1987,

    phil "fish" fisher killed....

and of course we left no prisoners

  • my favorite song of theirs.

  • sooooo badass

  • mmmmm naw...i stick with curtis'...

  • What a kick arse band!

  • I disagree with you. I find it a very good cover of Curtis Mayfield's song

  • curious to know who Freddy is?

    lol

  • Greeting loved one..Freddie is ALL OF US...the guy who got used and abused by Drug...Miseducation..Family and Friends...at sometime...we all been freddie...be well be great

  • Freddie was a junkie in Superfly who was beaten by police then hit by a car while escaping jail.

  • @chiknfulio so many freddies in this world. Not just the one in a movie...

  • is rocky george still playin with them?

  • yep !

  • i used to think Living Color were good, then I heard Fishbone...

  • Living Colour is one of the badest bands ever...Fishbone is great, but you can't sleep on Living Colour is amazing

  • @crimsonrush You should check out Follow For Now assuming you haven't heard of them already.

  • @Nireves33 I certainly shall. Thanks. :)

  • @crimsonrush THEY ARE ALL GOOD OUR BLACK ROCKERS..LIVING COLOUR, 24-7 SPYZ, JUNKYARD BAND, BAD BRAINS..ETC...WE STARTED ALL THIS SHIT!! PEACE!!

  • @STARRBUCK1973 Darned right! Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy laid down the template for the leanest, meanest soaring rock guitar ever. It's about time the MOBO awards started acknowledging ROCK instead of ignoring it. 80% of Rock IS of black origin - without question.

  • @crimsonrush Cmon dude I'm sick of people arguing what rock band is the best and now with the few FEW rockbands of black people you start with the stupid debate again?? do not be a fool

we must support them no arguing wich one of them is the best

    Peace

  • @Kharn8181 You insult me and then say 'Peace'? I have more intelligence in my shit than you have in your entire body - and better manners you moron.

  • @crimsonrush oh sorry for insult you with the fool word i hurt your feelings...

so you dont have a response for what i told you you are lack of brains

  • @crimsonrush Living Colour is still good, but I hear ya. Fishbone's been the only thing on my stereo since I first heard "The Reality Of My Surroundings"-album =)

  • @crimsonrush has spent over a year .. and i come to apologize, because I am listening to fishbone for over 8 months and you have the reason

if not for your comment might never have get into by fishbone. thanks blessings

  • @crimsonrush are you kidding me? Curtis Mayfield must be rolling over in his grave! This sounds like a game show jingle.

  • @navetx Actually, after this cover, which he LOVED, Curtis Mayfield worked with them happily on a one song for a film soundtrack and they had plans to record and tour with him but his unfortunately crippling accident derailed all that.

  • @navetx Mayfield was very much alive when this song came out. So more likely he simply rolled over in his bed.

  • @willisdholla Rolled over in his bed? Mayfield recorded "He's a FlyGuy" for the I'm Gonna Git You Sucka soundtrack.WITH Fishbone shortly before he died. He loved Fishbone.

  • Saw them three weeks ago and they were amazing!! Fishbone forever!!

  • Me too and I have singing with her, it was crazy (scuse me for my english)

  • AHhhhh. I missed that Berkeley show :(

  • great video. Come check fishbone tonight at th shattuck down low in berkeley .. MAy 1 st 2009.. See you there

  • fishbone rocks,oh yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what legends.

all these modern gangsta rap bling bling pathetic negros should take a look at what some free thinking negros were able to accomplished.

  • Deeze Niggas Is Badd!!!

  • FO SHO!!

  • They've recruited Rocky George from Suicidal Tendencies, arguably the best guitarist that's ever lived.

  • Curtis Mayfield !!!

  • i feel like this great song was turned into a 80s sounding piece of shit

  • I definitely like the original better also. Fishbone idolized Curtis Mayfield and ask his blessing before covering this song. Mr. Mayfiled said publically that he liked the creativity of this group and gave them the okay to do it. Creative musicians stick together like that. I'll keep listening to the original though.

  • Your a kid... what do you know of the 80's. Fishbone is the shit! I saw them at the Antennae Club during the "Truth and Soul" tour. They were amazing live and very cool to hang out with after the show.

  • this video is the cusp of eighties and nineties sensibilities/aesthetics in visual terms. The music is timeless however. Angelo came over our house once to drop off a book of his poetry and we smoked serious kind bud while cruising around LA. in our cross country red devil. Totally real superstar. truth and Soul is one the best albums of the '90's

  • 1988

  • I was at that show-It was balls out. They really connected with the fans there. Cool guys. Met up with them again at the new dasiy during sound check and they remembered me 1 year later. They let me eat from their fruit buffett. how cool is that.

  • To archive303: I stand corrected. I was talking about Ska, not 2 Tone - Ska was created in Jamaicans and 2 Tone was created in Jamaicans living in Britain or Black British people. I just found amusing that Black Americans, meaning Fishbone,

had to go to a White suburban school to learn about Ska. I get tired or non-Blacks trying to tell us Black folks about our own history. Some of read and know our own history.

  • You are absolutely correct. I know more about Africa than most black americans. And I'm Filipino.

    ONE LOVE TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • which album is this off

  • truth and soul (1988)

  • Did You Know?: This was released the same year as the 1991 motion picture sequel Freddie's Dead: The Final Nightmare. But neither this song or that film bare any connection.

  • this song came out in 1988...what are talking about???

  • Opinions and assholes. Leave me my opinion, you asshole.

  • what this song is all about is dont do drugs dont be like me lol

  • omg i rember this lol

  • To incaneacyde: Ska was originated by Black Jamaicans living in Britain. How can Fishbone go to a white school to learn about Ska? That's scary...

  • You are thinking 2 Tone not ska.

  • Norwood can be a mean SOB or at least back in the day ...but is a awesome bass player ..and probably a cool dude...guess he just needs a hug

  • this is a goose bumper song real life shit love it!!!!!!!

  • Oh my lord...Norwood your words are so true.

  • a bunch of black musicians get bussed from Watts to a white highschool and are exposed to skate/punk/hardcore and ska which morphs them into a band all to them selves.

  • Great take on an ol' school classic!

  • ??? this song is about the movie superfly

  • It was originally recorded by Curtis Mayfield. It's from his 1972 soundtrack album for the film Super Fly.

  • no, but they used it in one of the movies. look up the curtis mayfield version.

  • Lead singer is F!cking cute!

  • attebtion to all fishbone soilders-angelo and the boys will play at the mailbu inn on may 30-that's a friday. see y'all there

  • FISHBONE = KICKASS !!!

  • original members of the "black rock coalition" along w/ 24-7 spyz, living colour, and body count. (FYI)

  • Truth and Soul and REALITY OF MY SURROUDINGS Ruled! Long live the Bone!!!

  • Freddie's dead. Gutted. Luckily, Fishbone are still alive and kicking.

  • ok Im a big fan a fishbone, deffinetly not as big as yall, but I gotta ask who's Freddie?

  • Freddie, the character in the song originally done by Curtis Mayfield, was a drug addict who turned to selling drugs to support his habit which ultimately wound up killing him.

  • all you motherfuckers SHUT THE FUCK UP!

    FREDDIE'S DEAD!

  • In the house indeed. Hide your mom

  • Don't be surprised if yours comes up missing

  • Truth and Soul. Great album--informed late high school and early college experiences. Underrated band.

  • Such a wonderful band.

  • Why dont all you fuckers shut up with the arguing and listen to the music

  • Oh yes. Just listen to the music. Fuck everything else going on around you and just listen to the music. Why didn't I think of that. Fuck everything else. South Central in the muthafuckin' house.

  • HAHA what a fucking dumbass you are bigmalc

  • Yeah I know. I'm tellin you man, I can say some dumb shit. If it ain't to your liking, that shit is ridiculous. I'm such a dumbass. But you know what, you haven't yet told me why this is true. Why am I a dumbass? And we can go from there. I'm expecting someone like you to respond with an answer other that "because"...Step to my level.

  • i am not personally acquainted with you, nor do i know anything about your life experiences and therefore cannot provide an accurate response to your inquiry of "why am i a dumbass?" all the evidence i have are the many pointless responses you have posted on these videos. based on these responses i conclude that you are a dumbass. i cant tell you why, but i'm sure you can.

  • Fishbone is some BEAUTIFUL everytime I HEAR THEM.PLEASE SAVE THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS FOR ANOTHER VIDEO

  • bigmalc89 says:

"i dont know what yall here (hear), but that does not sound good. this version doesn't come close to the original. same words, different concept. i doubt they made Curtis proud."

" . . . always talkin about "open your mind"...you're tryin to assure me that everything is alright, right? shut the fuck up;)"

" . . . turn a good soul song into some rock'n'roll bull shit. shut the fuck up man!"

Case closed. You have enlightened me with the infinite wisdom in your responses.

  • Yes, now go share with the world my wisdom. tell everybody. It would be a much smarter place. The case will never close. It will infinitely be open. Thank You, dumb ass. You're a real pal.

  • This version kicks ass ....!

  • 牛逼!!!

  • I you never caught a Fishbone show in the late 80's or early 90's, ya missed out on the best live performance you'll ever see. First time I saw em in 87 and the club was pumped with energy that chairs and tables were flying halfway through show.

  • I agree! I saw them in 1988 in Chicago

  • Thanks man, I spend years looking for videos for these guys.

  • hear

  • i dont know what yall here, but that does not sound good. this version doesn't come close to the original. same words, different concept. i doubt they made Curtis proud.

  • Don't be so limited, dude. Open your mind, then open your ears ;)

  • Do the world a favor and go kill yourself.

  • What's the white world? is it like where santa clause is from?

  • Yes sir. Santa Claus and Jesus. You're right on point. You must be from there. This is true?

  • White, black...dumbasses are dumbasses, theres no color discrimination for idiocracy

  • You're right. But people of certain colors take idiocracy to a whole different level. So yes, some people are dumber than others. Regardless, race always matters. it certainly makes a difference.

  • Not sure what trip you're on, but I don't give a fuck. And I couldn't care less about your fucking skin color. To me, an idiot is just an idiot. You're having issues, dude.

  • You're truly right. In fact, everyone cares less about color. I will have you know you're wasting my fuckin time with this shit. You're making no sense and you're saying the same shit over and over again. Shut the fuck up. Make a new point...

  • Considering the fact that this is my third comment here, I ask myself how I've managed "saying the same shit over and over again" already. I guess you're just using the wrong "medication", if you know what I mean. Fuck you, get over yourself.

  • seriously, just stop posting comments your making me feel bad for your absence of a life

  • seriously, just stop posting comments your making me feel bad for your absence of a life

  • Hmmm . . . Curtis also performed this version with Fishbone before he
