2)Take into account also the proximity of the islands to those 3 countries laying claim.

1:00 you can clearly see that the two boats are on a parallel course. Than at 1:10 you can see the Chinese ship turn into the Japanese ship. It's clear when the camera pans to the back of the Chinese ship.
From the wakes of the both ships you can see that the japanese ship was making a big S-turn just before being hit by the chinese boat. The japanese was cutting into the way of the chinese boat, possibly with the intension of stopping it.

i can't see why the small trawler would like to ram into a big patrol boat. These people were bored about life and would like to sink the boat. An intentional ramming would not be at the back. This is showing a sharp and fast turn of the bigger boat trying to stop the trawel from getting/steering away. If the trawler was being arrested, they have to pay a hugh fine as testified by a lot of fishermen from Taiwan.

As we all can see the japan navy ship was forcing and got closer to chinese fishing boat, the navy boat was trying to slow down infront of the fishing boat and let it knock on it then the navy speed up with black smoke, these action was intend to hide the flashing behind the ship.
Second, we all can see the navy was driving from left to right and stop in front of the fishing boat again, the boat has no alternatively slow down and finally rushed on it.
Before this happened, the same Chinese boat had rammed into another Japanese coast guard ship (video available on youtube). If it was not intentional, they would not have repeated the aggressive act. The Chinese deliberately attacked Japanese ships.
Chinese boat size was 160t, Japanese ship was 180t, so they were not that different in size.

To abas90: You have to be pretty blind. The sound wasn't great but you can hear "tei chuan!" "tei chuan!" (Stop your ship!) And it is pretty hard to imagine any maneuver the Japanese ship could have made that would have caused the abrupt change in angle-of-bow of the Chinese ship, but very easy to imagine how the Chinese maneuvered.

As many furious Japanese have pointed out, many a nation would have just blown that fishing boat out of the water.

@azngen1233 1st, I only said from the Japanese POV, which if the Chinese Captain had any brains he should at least have known. The world isn't always what we want it to be, but we work with it as it is.
2nd, like it or not, at present the world figures those islands are Japanese. Heck, even the Chinese themselves occasionally slip up and admit it, at least until they heard about the oil nearby.
Besides, shouldn't it be "China is rather large, so maybe they can stop being greedy?"

@azngen1233 I suppose that compared to say mainland China, Hong Kong would be relatively even-handed in its reporting; that's not to say my exposure to would not be biased towards the Chinese. I can FIND the opposite side but if I sit there it mostly comes in one direction.
For example, I remember a program a few years ago which involved challenging JSMDF officers as to whether they think all their new ships are needed for defense. Fine but why does no one challenge 2nd Artillery Corps?

Probably, the choice to use みずき to do the intercept was influenced by the 2008 incident when they sucked in and sank 聯合號 with こしき (1300t & same class as よなくに which 文進漁號 rammed before this video) - BTW, よなくに was turning left there so to avoid collision so all 文進漁號 had to do was either stay stopped or turn RIGHT. After that obviously the ROE got a bit looser.

i can't see why the small trawler would like to ram into a big patrol boat. These people were bored about life and would like to sink the boat. An intentional ramming would not be at the back. This is showing a sharp and fast turn of the bigger boat trying to stop the trawel from getting/steering away. If the trawler was being arrested, they have to pay a hugh fine as testified by a lot of fishermen from Taiwan.

It's quite obvious looking at both ship's wakes the chinese vessel remained the stand on vessel and didn't alter course, while the Jap patrol boat deliberately turned in front of the chinese fishing vessel in an attempt to slow or stop the vessel. The Japanese have created a "story" - its like saying "hey! a balloon flew up my ass on purpose!" The chinese captain is brave . He's a hero as far as I'm concerned. It's clear to me it was the Japanese fault

@kosomolsk あと、十年前と違って、解放軍も成長した。最近は十年前買った「中國海軍」と言う香港製の本を繰り替え読んだ、そしてWikiで現在の事を読む。当時の解放軍海軍は真ともな艦載遠距離防空誘導弾は無く(良くてSA-N-7程度)、艦載対艦誘導弾もSS-N-22を除くなら良くてハープーン程度、悪くならSS-N-2の中華版、潜水艦戦力は比較的に真とものキロやソン級ただ数隻、以外は動く如何かさえ疑問の中華版ロメオや627級並と言われているハン級。空軍もSu-27が限界だった。
そして現在：遠距離防空誘導弾搭載艦4隻＋中距離防空誘導弾搭載艦12隻以上。たとえイージスに劣るでも、あっちは艦載対艦誘導弾もハープーンを凌ぐものが多く、新型を各艦隊から揃えば海上自衛隊の水面護衛艦隊と十分渡り合える。潜水艦戦力も同じく結構マシに成る。
"同一の海軍ですが？"と思えるほどだ。解放軍海軍に比べなら、自衛隊の戦力発展は静止と見える。

もし一対一なら、攻撃権限は基本的に中国に在る。防空しか出来ないの空自(通常爆弾だけで現代防空兵器と肉薄するなど自殺に近い)と両方出来る解放軍空軍、どちらに分があるのが明白た。
米軍と共同作戦なら、足纏に違いない。米軍にとって、同盟国の装備は基本的に自分より劣るとは慣れている。とは言え現代空戦の要である、対陸用の精密兵器や対レーダ誘導弾も一切ないとは...はっきり言うといい迷惑だ。
訓練や指揮管制面も例え日本はまた優勢でも、以前のような決定的な差が無い。結論から言うと、このままだと今じゃなくでも短い将来に中国は核を出さんでもあの島を奪うほどの軍事力を得る。米国は多分何らかの言い訳を使って自分の介入を遅延するたし。
よって、むしろ政治代価を高いの核兵器の保持を延期、もっと局部戦争でも用があるの通常兵力を強化の方は要です。

As we all can see the japan navy ship was forcing and got closer to chinese fishing boat, the navy boat was trying to slow down infront of the fishing boat and let it knock on it then the navy speed up with black smoke, these action was intend to hide the flashing behind the ship.
Second, we all can see the navy was driving from left to right and stop in front of the fishing boat again, the boat has no alternatively slow down and finally rushed on it.

Before this happened, the same Chinese boat had rammed into another Japanese coast guard ship (video available on youtube). If it was not intentional, they would not have repeated the aggressive act. The Chinese deliberately attacked Japanese ships.
Chinese boat size was 160t, Japanese ship was 180t, so they were not that different in size.

To abas90: You have to be pretty blind. The sound wasn't great but you can hear "tei chuan!" "tei chuan!" (Stop your ship!) And it is pretty hard to imagine any maneuver the Japanese ship could have made that would have caused the abrupt change in angle-of-bow of the Chinese ship, but very easy to imagine how the Chinese maneuvered.
