Because this cartoon wasn't make for commercial things and for money,it was made for soul! And you are cynical Disney and Hollywood, can only think about money! As for nowadays music, yes, it's powerful and strong, but not beautiful! Nowadays music made only for commerce and money!

  • This classical fairy tale Russian cartoons are masterpieces and art by themselves, they have soul, art and a meaning! Today modern cartoonist are bad students, its all artificial, about how to make money$ and commercials! Watching cartoon network (except samurai Jack):) and new born cartoons makes me puke!!

  • @duwxas

Hey, it's as they say: "Times change." But I think cartoons both old and new show very clearly the zeitgeist of the periods in which they were made.

  • What is the song at 2:45? Where she's dancing with the broom?

  • @IAmPrettySoldier

Tchaikovsky Russian Dance from the ballet Swan Lake

  • the older cartoons seem to be the best ones. i mean i would rather watch and old one anyday.

  • I love the animation but I'm a bit disappointed that this doesn't use more music from The Nutcracker itself. I can't believe they didn't use the Trepak.

  • This animation is a trip!

  • Oh yeah! Russians are able to make the whole world crying! P.S. I'm russian...

  • Oh How I adored this cartoon <333

  • @CaptainCarrion lol was it a joke or you are trully that retard?

  • @RedGoddesscom I was just kidding, but given the average intelligence of the YouTube userbase, I can see how you would think I may actually be that retarded. No offense taken.

  • I like it..... so beauty cartoon and MUSIC !

    Bravo Tchaikovsky !

  • Wow! I never thought I'd see this again. How I wish cartoons were like this again. Nowadays, they're filled with garbage. Now this were the glory days of animation through pencil and colors, not cheap editing and digital editing.

  • Oh, my. How wonderful and beautiful.

It has a lot of class and magic to it, this.

  • @Tayday12

I agree. It's so much better than some of the cartoons played on our TV of today, has a lot more style to it.

  • Holy cow.I found it!!!! I remember seeing this in the library as a kid at school. It was amazingly awesome and I was one of the very few kids paying attention. It was so different than the other cartoons that the US had at the times (I was growing up in the 90s).Man to be a kid again

  • i hav this and i used to watch this all the timeee!! :D

  • Beautiful music, beautiful cartoon, beautiful everything ;-D

  • это мое детство :)

  • what is the name of the composition from 2:55 ??? thank you :)

I watched this cartoon when I was a little girl. so much memories :' )

let us enjoy in beauty of music. we can reach something... something out of this world :D

  • @luca999fire

    @OokamiC

It's the Russian Dance from "Swan Lake." It's in Act III of that ballet.

  • Oh I so would like to know what's the music when the girl starts brushing around and dancing with her broom. Does anyone know, maybe?

  • I've seen this, but if I remember this right it was dubbed... Works better just with music ^^ Beautiful cartoon and lovely story

  • The first and LAST time I watched this was when I was but a tiny kid. To find it here now is a dream come true!

Thanks a galaxy for your contribution!

  • This reminds me of a scene in The Simpsons where Itchy & Scratchy are a parody on some weird old Soviet cartoon. It scared me!

  • maybe someone knows name of song which starts in 5.44 ?? thanks

  • @latvianSS Adagio from *The Nutcracker*

  • @pashamt8 Thank you very much ;)

  • нкфрб Шэь ыгввутдн ефдлштп шт дшлу кгыышт!!!! Ыщьущту рудз ьу здя!!!!

  • Oh this is beautiful--even if it does mix in a bit of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake in with the Nutcracker--it fantastically fits. i like the twist that it is a small sweet maid who discovers the poor nutcracker.

  • never thought i'd see this again! thank you. saw this when i was a kid. thank you thank you thank you.

  • I'm hilarious... reading comments like "the music is good" is an amazing experience... Mozart and Chopin were good, too ;-))))

  • @francorussie2 you certainly are hilarious

  • Chernobylskaya kryisa!

  • Epic master piece! Still got in lowest quality on VHS!

  • this was on tv in finland when i was a kid and i've been looking for this everywhere! thanks!

  • Americans love to watch Soviet cartoons? О_о

  • @IchLuder

i think it's more like people love to listen to awesome tchaikovsky music, the cartoon is just a side thing

  • @otherjoe1234 understandable, the music is really good, but interesting cartoon

  • @otherjoe1234 the cartoon exemplifies tchaikovsky music and artistic genius.

The cartoon very important because its makes the music accessible to everyone at any age. If you want to welcome kids and new listeners to the wonders of tchaikovsky this is what you have to show them.

  • i always watched this movies.

  • It's embarrasing to think how low modern cartoons have sunk in quality. I LOVE this cartoon. Seeing the nutcrackers sad face got me close to tears.

  • @UnrealHel No, it's not embarassing. Of course the mainstream is always going to be garbage, but to throw a blanket statement like that out there, is such a huge inaccuracy. There are many many many wonderful films out there today, that easily make this look like child's play....go watch the illusionist, if you don't believe me.

  • The best Nutcracker cartoon ever!

  • gospodi, kokoj sedevr !

  • @BorisSergeevich : THANK YOU!!

  • oh those times ;_;

  • what is the name of the composition from 3:28 - 5:23 ??

I always wondered because I never found it on any Tchaikovsky album. Its so beautiful..

  • It's Danse Russe (Russian Dance) from the Swan Lake.

  • @murzik320 : oh my gosh ! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!

  • I am going to the Bolshoi tonight to see the Nutcracker, for me this is a great occasion! and now I am already in this atmosphere thanking to this cartoon! Nice holidays to everyone!

  • What year was this made?

  • @daltigs1

    1973

I can say quite definitely is my favorite MULTI! And Tchaikovsky-favorite Russian composer! Thank you for the sweet moments of childhood!

  • This is one of my fav. Nutcracker adaptions! Though this one was different from the one narrated by Hans Conreid. I wish that one was uploaded too. Anyway, these mice seem cute, even though they're dangerous.

  • Every season when I watch it for the first time it makes me cry.

  • OK, I got it! It's Russian dance from the Swan lake. :)))

  • No, it's not hungarian dance.. Any other ideas?

  • My God!! I know it's Tchaikovsky! I need to know the name of the melody at 3:30. I can't find it among the nutcracker melodies.

  • Can someone please tell me the name of the melody at 3:30? I love it and just need to get it somehow!!!

  • this is Tchhaikovkyi, great Russian composer u can see his name on titles.

  • It's Danse Russe from Swan Lake.

  • anyone know where I can find this on dvd?

  • I remember this when I was a little kid.

It's still so beautiful, and I loved this animation.

    It's so nostalgic.

  • OMG!!! I remember watching this in kingergarden (but in english)

I love this story and the ballet!!

  • beautiful music

  • Lublu atot multik

  • From the wooden shoes I first thought the movie was made by Holland.

  • @loudrgfan You mean The Netherlands! Holland is properly the name for only two of its provinces.

  • ШИКАРНЫЙ МУЛЬТИК ! мое детство)))

  • На 8:45 не "Спящая" часом?? Не понимаю откуда эта музыка, но точно не из Щелкуна((

  • Is this all Tchaikovsky's music...? I recognize the majority of it, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out what piece begins at 2:36 or that epic part at 8:45 and so on. If anyone knows, can they tell me the name of the piece? I've heard the full version of the Nutcracker Suite (or so I think I have) but I heard neither of those parts at the times listed above. I'm not even sure if they're by Tchaikovsky or not, which is why I ask. I really LOVE the music and the animation for that matter.

  • 2:36 Is part of Danse Russe from Swan Lake! (Also Tchaikovsky) It's act III, No.20a on my cd.

I can't help you with 8:45 but I assume this whole movie is made as a medley of all his works.

  • Thank you for the tip.

Спасибо за подсказку, я тоже долго не мог вспомнить откуда этот фрагмент-)

  • Absolutely all the music you hear is Tchaikovsky.

  • love it :D

  • so nice, so naiif...

  • Back to USSR =) It reminds me about my childhood - like it was yearstaday.. i have grown up on such cartoons like this one... on the music like Tchaikovsky... Sadly, nowadays russian music and russian cartoon are so felt behind... it is not even close to something like this

  • Kyaa I was still a young girl with dreams last time I've saw this on TV. XD

  • Is it not on DVD still now?I Want this movie!

  • it is on DVD, look up "Stories of my childhood" on Amazon, they will give a few volums, Volume 4 has this movie in it, tho cut for time, and narration, it is still a good movie.

  • Oh, really really thanks !! I've ordered that last night ! But the title is "Stories from my childhood" ; D Fortunately the DVD is region free.( I live in Japan.)

  • I saw the DVD, but it contains new sound effect and cuts some scene. What I don't like is narration and new sound effect. I want see the Original one like this. Anyway, I thank you for telling me.

  • I remember seeing this like over 10 years ago and I've always wanted to see it again. Thank God for Youtube. This is so beautiful, it's untrue. Only the music and no talking=<3

  • best cartoon ever!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS! SWEET HAPPY CHILDHOOD!

  • Wow! this the first time that i've seen the ORIGINAL Russian version! I seen this in English ( 2 versions 1 with only the music sound track & 1 told by the late Hans Conried) & the Spanish version (music sound track).

  • Did you know that Clara's name was Marie in the original story by E. T. A. Hoffmann? Clara was the name of a doll of her's. The ballet was when her name was first changed to Clara.

  • Yes, and when girl is named Marie, her doll usually is named Clairhen; while girl is Clara, her doll called Marihen.

  • Sorry, it's for magdalansaiyantoa.

  • Thanks for bringing my memory back to me. It took me to step in slowly when I almost recognized it. Oh, wow, I love it very much! Excellent! I enjoyed watching it. I saw this on TV when I was a deaf, young girl. The music in the background of this video was so wonderful! I listened to it with a pair of my hearing aids on.

  • I've seen this a million times when I was a kid!!! So many memories XD And the music is like from a fairy tale (which it is)!!! ;)

  • tuve un trauma de pequeño con estos dibujos, en el momento de la trasformación. Horrososo, aún le tengo pánico

  • I saw this movie about 20 years ago on Swedish television. Thanks for the upload.

  • esta increible!!! thanks! gracias! mercy!

  • Gracias, muchas Gracias!!!!!!!!!!

  • if u don't know Russian so u didn't notice on the beggining it was written "we used music of Chaikovskiy(not just music from Nut cracker)".This cartoon was made for children to make them get used to classic music at all,it was one of first cartoons that i watched when i was very little 2-3 years child.and the epithode when girl is dancing with a broom was always my favourite! Sorry for my English,I am Ukrainian.

  • Oh wow you are right, it's not the full ballet score. The Broom dance song is actually part of Danse Russe from Swan Lake! Thanks!

  • OMG, this is really like a dream!

  • Excellent animation!Great work!

  • I remember this from when I was little :3 thanks for this!

  • Beautiful, I had this animation on VHS, I MUST transfer ir to a DVD, it's fair.

  • Hello! I love this movie/musical it's a splendid job of the soviet animation^^! But SOMEBODY KNOWS THE NAME OF THE SONG WHEN CLARA THE GIRL STARTS TO SWEEPS, DANCES AND WHEN THE NUTCRACKER COMO TO LIVE? it's beautiful! I really appreciate if someone of u tell me. thx! :3

  • Have a look at comments to part3. CliniQm wrote a breakdown of music there :)

  • @BluePandora09 Pas Deux by Tchaikovsky

  • @BluePandora09 That piece of music is called "The Russian Dance". It is taken from "The Swan Lake".

  • @BluePandora09 amazing!

  • Sure you of have the subbed versions of the Russian animated short I had seen like "The Little Mermaid" "Thumbelina" "The Golden Feather" "Cinderella" and "Winnie The Pooh." And even the Russian version of "The Jungle Book"

  • I'm sorry, I don't quite understand your comment. Are you asking if I have the subbed versions of these cartoons? I don't. I make subtitles to the cartoons (which mostly haven't been translated to English before) I'm posting myself.

  • where did u get this video? i wanna buy it!

  • Looks like you can buy it from here:

    w w w dvdaf. com/search.html?dir=Lev%20Atamanov

  • самый любимый мультфильм...

  • wait a sec...clara/marie wasn't a rich girl; she was just a maid? i really need to read the real story of this

  • Well, Hoffmann's story has almost a million variants - the story changes at different countries, there are versions like it plays in England and versions takes place in Moscow, just for one example. Tchaikovsky did made his own changes in the story too; it's another one from the many. Hoffmann's real story differs from the operett too!

  • The ballet is beautiful is you go to see it music is BEAUTIFUL!

  • u mean soviet animation?
