i personatly have 3 iguanas.. one big she's a female she's like one year old.. and 2 babies they are about 6 months and still is not sure wich gender they are.. but we are pretty sure they are one male and one female..
i'm sorry about the bother.. i don't think mt iguanas interest you.. :)
I know you cant be sure about the gender of 6 month old iguanas. But sometimes you can watch their behavior closely and have a good guess - and it is always interesting to read about other iguanas. :-)
Does your supposed male iguana seem dominant? I think he will have to be because females do mostly accept only bigger males.
my bigger one is a female.. but she "controls" the other iguanas.. is not typical for a female to control.. but she was the first to come and she's very jealous. she wants all the attention and doesn't like when we pay attention to the little ones.. but they are cool with that.. they don't fight at all...
we suppose that one little is a male because of his behavior.. and the other is a female.. she is very quiet and nice.. the male is kind of dominant.. but still nice :)
I think it is typical for dominant female iguanas to control the others - and there are not just few dominant females. But as long as they dont fight this is all good.
I think it is very good if the male is dominant otherwise he will have no chance of being head of the terrarium when a bigger female is more dominant than he is.
you are not supposed to put them together during the mating season.. you separate them.. you never know what can happen if you're there to watch out...
I wont seperate them until it is necessary. They did never really hurt each other and never bite hard enough to make a wound.
I want them to be together because there are not so much problems with fertilized clutches then with unfertilized - and the group is not so uneasy anymore this the male is there.
It was not necessary to seperate them. This happens sometimes during mating season: the females are annoyed because of the male and react not in a relaxed way. And when one female thinks she can change the hierarchy it can happen that they do more then just nodding. But as long as they do not hurt each other and this is a rare situation, it is ok.
ohh ok yea sometimes if they have enuff room to run away they just nip and bully alittle to get their point across, glad you give them a lot of space for when they get fussy :)

@Bibushka66
These two are females and they are fighting for the place of the dominant female.
The smaller one won and is now the dominant female in the group.

They both have layed eggs - the small one once and the big one twice - so they are both definitely female.

Cant wait to see your vet bill when one gets really injured. They may have enough room now to run away but they are still small.
If they do mate please freeze the eggs, theres enough unwanted iguanas in the world.

how many feet tall is that cage?
jordanthemano135 3 years ago
It is 2.5 meters in length, 1.45 meters width and 2.95 meters height.
If 1 feet is 30.48cm then my terrarium is 8.2 feet in lenth, 4.8 feet width and 9.7 feet height.
