someone needs to comment on this performance, so i guess i will. l'orchestre de paris and eschenbach are doing a great traversal of the mahler symphonies. i love the clear, transparent and edgey sound of the orchestra. it lends itself well to mahler's many layers, as each can come out more clearly simultaneously. i love the french players and how they deliver such heart and intensity without completely showing their hand. a wonderful balance of intensity and clarity. it's just so french.
@tzhuff Have you heard the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, Mahler's Fifth Symphony. Make this performace seem not edgy. You can get it at your library or Amazon.
Nevertheless , I like this one for its clearness and expressivity . in the sound : homogeneity in power ,from different instruments , but although very disctintives melody lines
udamel gets something mahlerian with the incredible energy he brings in some passages .
watching this performance feels like a movie

If you told me I must , then I shall do it !
I am a Mahler fan , I love both man and his music .
He was very closed to forgotten ( outstanding)conductor , Oskar Fried , who was his only pupil , as a conductor .
Mahler had a philosophical way to consider conducting ,so did Fried .
Fried had poor childhood .
The man is incredible.
You can find very old recording ( < WW2 ) by him .
I think Mahler would have been very interested by Dudamel conducting the SBYOV .
