Thats beacouse you are comparing a compact digital with a slr camera!!!
try comparing the slr camera with a dslr camera and then lets see the prices and quality. Or compare that compact digital you got with a compact film camera:
film camera-15 dollars
digital camera-75 (cheap ones).

What is he talking about, a digital compact hasn't got nearly the quality of a 35mm SLR, a digital SLR yes, but not a digital compact.
