isn't editing the game engine kind of hacking? How do you get away with it?

Demo Editing isn't hacking. If you're in the game you can type /demorecord NAME, then later type /demostop and a text file will be saved that you can replay later. Editing the text in that file is how this was made (along with video editing and the like).

For the sky, I tweaked the SKYFILE command until I got a nice gold sky. Then I filtered the green out of it, et voilà, a nice red sky ;)

With the movie like angles, heart pumping music, dramatic use of coloring(in a good way),and the action and storyline both keeping you at the edge of your seat, this is the best player made machinima i have seen. 5stars! I believe NC was having a contest for City of Heroes/villains players to make 30-45 second trailers. With this kind of skill, i think you could win easily.

I'd say it took me something like 80 hours, done in 3 months. But I'm a slow worker, plus a lot of things I shot didn't make it in the final vid.

I didn't use any specific program (no DemoEditor of any kind), except my trustful Notepad for writing the scripts (the vid is 100% scripted), and of course classic ones like Fraps and Premiere.

That said, camera and characters movement are computed when needed by a custom piece of software I made for Dies Irae then upgraded since.
