Hurricane Opal is significant to me because it was the very first Hurricane that I tracked. 1995 was a milestone year for Hurricanes, not just because at 12 I started tracking storms, because it was one of busiest Atlantic Hurricane seasons on record.
Tha'ts crazy. I remember Opal, I was 8. I remember looking up at the ceiling fans watching them sway back and fowarth whle it was pouring and lightning outside.
Always great to see the great era of The Weather Channel.
I remember Opal surged over my part of Alabama--I was asleep in the closet with my parents as a tree was uprooted and fell back down in our yard (thankfully away from our house).
God I was so little when this hit, I remember cause we were in the middle of moving and we were on the road and all the hotels had no vacancy signs up.
I was in this hurricane as a child living in Pensacola, FL. and I was scared out of my mind but the coverge we had was great and all my family and friends survived.
Ah! The O.J. trial. If I was on the Gulf Coast and in the path of this monster, I wouldn't give a damn about that murderer and what the verdict of his circus murder case was going to be.
I believe the OJ verdict came out the day before Opal hit so sadly the coverage of Opal was rather overshadowed somewhat by its aftermath, although I do remember Dan Rather covering Opal on location.
