The ancestors, living and dead (Wolf, Muddy, B.B., Albert, Freddie, John Lee, Buddy and a few dozen others) sing well into their 70s and 80s without stressing the vocal cords and/or the diaphragm. I want their progeny to learn from them. Probably the Master of no-stress vocal genius would be Billie Holiday. This is the first song I ever learned, back in the 60's.
@garstanza Are you in reference to Derek Trucks? I hope not because he is the best living slide player and the only person that could be compared to Duane!
I love the ABB, but Gregg's voice is just toast here....out of tune .... I love the man, and his organ chops are still fine, but he sounds like he is singing in the wrong key.
When Eric Clapton "readily admits" that he was "in awe" of another guitarist, what does that tell you about the ability that Duane Allman had on the electric guitar? Clapton is used to being the one that others are in awe of, not the other way around.
@GBeret83 eric also thought that way of stevie ray vaughn, even saying that stevie was the best he ever heard, the very night they jammed together at alpine valley and stevie got on the helicopter and passed away in the fog that night in august of 1990
this is awesome! thanks for posting this. went here on youtube right after reading the aforementioned article in RS with Beck and Clapton on the cover...
In watching all this, I wonder if Clapton regrets not having his Gibby 335 (the one GC owns now) with him on this particular show?
Watch these boys do Live at Filmore version almost note for note.
