  • hi, i'm an agnostic atheist. i am both, they are not mutually exclusive and neither is a religion.

and if atheism is a religion, then bald is hair color, and not believing in fairies is a superstition.

  • This seems to be the latest craze amongst theists--deflect responsibility for proving their theistic claims by trying to turn it back on the skeptics. The thinking seems to be this: "Hmmm. I can't prove there's a god. What am I going to do? Aha! You atheists, it is YOU who has to prove there's no God! Ha, I win!" It's really craven and dishonest--by this standard, all religions are valid, since none can be conclusively disproven. I guess the invisible dragon in my garage must be true also.

  • Please define religion. Another problem that comes up with your standards is that christians are not only christians. They're also believers of a religion that doesn't believe in unicorns and believers of another religion that doesn't believe in zeus and believers of another religion that doesn't believe in shiva and believers of another religion that doesn't believe in horus and believers of... plus by your standards the theist position is non legit as well and they should be agnostics. slfpwnd

  • Actually you are wrong I am a agnostic atheist meaning that I do not believe in a God however I do not rule out the possibility of one, you do realize the difference of thinking something can possibly exist however not believing that there is one right? BTW this whole bit about you guys trying to put us in the theist catagoery is getting old and hasn't worked in years as you know that by defenition you cannot put us in theism catagoery.

  • I like many others tired of the ignorant and pointless attenpts to anwser this perfectly fair and reasonable question. Face it atheists you have been beaten by the greater intellect of Shock. so perhaps rather than whinging that the question is unfair and stupid you will re-evaluate and start to praise god. If you do not he may in his anger stop the sun from revolving around this flat earth of ours. Ra bless you

  • to say atheism is a belief is beyond dense. an Atheist makes his decision on consideration of the facts and evidence at hand. This is called knowledge (the opposite according to the oxford dictionary of English to the word faith) and is an important step in logical decision making. Rationality has no time or place for people who believe in fairytale gods and whom strive for nothing more than the total destruction of the planet. Fucking rapture trolls all of you!

  • what w bunch of crap.

    Benefits of being an atheist.

    1. Not wasting your life on a lie

    2. Freedom

    3. Not feeling bad for being human

    4. Seeing the world clearly

I do not believe in god or gods. If I were proved wrong I would be wrong not agnostic

Religion is a crutch, a safety blanket for adults.

The proof atheism is right. All great eras of scientific advancement come from governments where religion is not in control.

  • atheism = Denial

  • You are ignorant about atheism and agnosticism. Agnosticism is not about "believing" anything. Its about knowledge. Not knowing whether or not there is a god. a theist can be agnostic and an atheist can be agnostic.

example. A theist can believe in a god but not "know" for sure if there is a god. likewise with an atheist, they can lack a belief in god and not know if there is or isn't a god.

  • Essentially atheists and creationists are both wrong. You can't prove that there isn't a God just like you can't prove that there is one. There is just a much higher percent chance that our world and universe were created by something other than God which makes most intellectuals jump to the idea that has the most evidence which is evolution and the big bang. I myself realize that we can't know anything for 100% sure and that most people who follow religion blindly are idiots.

  • For the most part, atheists do not have any type of belief belief. They do not claim anything. Certain atheists say "god does not exist." These people are making a claim, and they are the ones who need to prove what they say. The rest of atheists merely state "I don't believe in god." Thy are not saying that god does not exist. It is not a claim. We are not saying that we are right. We are sayng that we do not believe what you say, not that it is definitey wrong. Learn what atheism is first.

  • I feel like this is just quibbling over semantics. I am an atheist and have defined it to be the position of being unconvinced of God's existence. I haven't called it agnosticism because to me agnosticism implies 50/50 chance of God's existence. However as an atheist I find the probability of God's existence to be much lower. However if this to you still screams agnosticism then so be it. I have little interest in arguing over the definition of terms.

  • and not to mention,do you have to have "god" watching you to keep you from doing bad things,i dont do bad things because its wrong, not because of hell/god,morals come from within, they can be taught but one must make the choice to follow there morals...how many athiest inquisitions/crusades/witch trials/nazis have there been(yes the nazis were christian)

  • ok,im an athiest, the best benefit is that everything i believe is backed up by thousands of scientific studys,i dont feel empty or lacking in anyway, the best thing about being an athiest is that no one tells me i have to convert everyone,if you read the bible to find enlightenment and inner peace, then go for it,if the bible makes you compeled to tell others they are wrong then you missed the point anyway then i am infact more enlightened than you :)

  • I'm not asserting anything. You are asserting that there IS a god. YOU provide proof that your assertion is correct.

I am asserting that there is NO god because there is no EVIDENCE for your god.

I'll throw out the Saganic Bible in a heartbeat if you proved that your god existed.

  • Where is the proof I am right? Where is the proof you are right?

  • guys, @aDetectiveA has made me realize something with one of his claims, he said taking a scientific claim is falsehood. so when science says that its CURED CANCER or come up with a NEW VACCINATION FOR A DEADLY DISEASE or a cure for AIDS, don't listen to them, its just atheistic falsehood, @aDetectiveA doesn't trust science, so he hides inside the fairy tales of the bible

  • Atheism: The lack of a belief in deities. [A] Lack of, [theism] belief in deities.

Agnosticism: The lack of knowledge of deities. [A] Lack of, [gnosis] knowledge.

aDetectiveA: 1)The lack of the ability to understand that belief and knowledge are two different things that are not mutually exclusive. 2) An insane creationist whose religion has trained out all bits of intelectual honesty and replaced his brain with one of Ray Comfort's poops.

  • shockofgod is a wanker

anyone on youtube that posts a video, then disables the ratings & comments is a hit & run wanker

  • If atheism is a religion, then not collecting stamps is a hobby.

  • This sounds like you have an issue with the definition of "atheist," rather than any arguments put forth by them. I think the strongest assertion an atheist can make is that gods probably don't exist, and that belief in a god isn't rational. Re-labeling an atheist as an agnostic, simply because it suits your understanding of each word isn't exactly an intellectual smackdown.

  • The benefit of Atheism:

The ability to be intellectually honest and say "I don't know" when posed with a question that you don't know the answer to.

When theists are posed with a question that they do not know the answer to, they say "god did it." That my friend is intellectually lazy.

  • @JMU24AZP not just lazy, its intellectually deficient.

  • No proof?

    OH the irony :)

  • observin the heavens deeper than humans ever could and looking for this god and not finding him=proof for atheism

looking for historical records for the events in the bible and seeing that they are not fact or recorded any where= proof for atheism

claims in the bible regarding the sun moon and stars, position of the earth, natural disasters and the work of god the explained by science that it is not a superntural cause = PROOF FOR ATHEISM

  • @pistolpete667 i know i left out a bunch that im sure some other atheist will be happy to bring to your attention

  • 1) you changed the statements of atheism around during the video ("statement" turned into "belief" it seems...)

    2) atheism is not denying god, you require belief in him to deny him (and how can a being without a body be a "him"?). we simply believe there is no god.

3)if a person doesn't believe in something then those sayign it does must prove the thing exists, not that the person who deosn't believe must prove it doesn't exist. e.g. i have undetectable gnomes in my garden. prove me wrong.

  • @th3vampan3z3l0rd 4) 3 shows that shockofgod's question is null

and finally 5) being atheist does not make a person a scientist/intellectual or anything else except but a person who doesn't believe in god. you are corret with that one. you are also correct in saying an atheist will say "no" to being asked if they believe in god. but they will probably provide you with the logic which can be used to disprove god (the christian one anyways...)

  • Agnostic, or a tooth fairy agnostic, you simply say "What reason is there for me to believe in the tooth fairy?" You do not have to provide evidence for your disbelief, you just don't believe because there is no reason to. Consequently, it is you who claims God is real and you who must provide the evidence for God. Atheism is not a religion just as unemployment is not a job and baldness is not a hair color. We make no claim, we just choose not to believe unsubstantiated ones.

  • I have a question for you

If you were to walk up to someone and tell them you that bigfoot is real, what do you think they would say. Do you think they would respond with "Where is your proof?" or "How do you know this" or something along these lines?

If I walked up to you and said Big Foot/The Tooth Fairy/ Santa Claus is real, would you not ask for proof? If I then provided you with none, would it not be a safe bet to continue not believing in these entities? You do not call yourself a Santa

  • Show me a dictionary that defines atheism as "consciously denying the existence of god".

Let me give you a hint; There's none.

And by the way, please learn the words you fucking use. Agnostic is someone who does not KNOW whether god exists or not. Atheist is someone who does not BELIEVE god exists.

    I am both.

  • i doesn't matter what definition of atheist you use, since they are the ones who identify as atheists they choose what it means. Most work it like this.

    1) do you belie in god?

    Yes = theist

    No = atheist

    2) do you know?

    Yes = gnostic

    No = agnostic

    i am an agnostic atheist

  • You are heavily appealing to ignorance. You obviously don't understand what and atheist is. It's simply someone who doesn't believe in Gods. Nothing more....

  • (I am not an Atheist)

Atheist do not deny God, they really do not care about his existance. Atheist and Christian on youtube makes their own religion or belief look bad. The thing that proves atheist is correct is your devoted belief. If you truly believe in what you believe then it is correct. Plus, evolution and astronomy history book is the proof and evidence you need to prove creationism wrong. And that shows the existance of christianity's God doesn't exist. P.S. Science made the bible.

  • @killerboyfoolz no amount of science can disprove creation... many people like to mix their own personal beliefs with science, they like to over think what science is capable of... even indirectly taking a scientific claim is falsehood and even you should know that... Atheists continue to push towards an escape, because they have no justification on why they don't believe in God... other than, they don't want to follow his commandments and they'd rather live their own selfish lives... get it?

  • @aDetectiveA Thanks for the info

  • @aDetectiveA @ a detectivea....W THEEE F are you talking about????i have no justification on WHY i Don't believe in "gOD". see...THIS is why us atheists want to smack the SHIT out of you assholes! ok...here is just one of MANY for me...ready...i'm bout to blow your RETARDED claim to smithereens. psalm 96;11..."the earth IS fixed, and CANNOT be MOVED.

hmmm....we rotate EVERY day...(bible is WRONG)...we orbit the sun....(bible is WRONG)...AND we also rotate as part of our galaxy! ...ooops!!

  • @aDetectiveA No amount of science needs to disprove anything. Science proves things. The burden of proof for an extraordinary claim requires extraordinary evidence and the burden of proof is placed on the believer of the extraordinary event. aDetectiveA you are wrong and understand nothing about atheists. Obviously you have no clue as your comments demonstrate. You should apologize for being a lying cunt and remove your videos (and yourself?!) from the planet.

  • @aDetectiveA

you say... "they'd rather live their own selfish lives... get it?"

if you are so smart and selfless give me one example of a truly selfless act you have ever performed and ill butter my hat and eat it

    good luck xxx

  • Shock's question is perfectly coherent if - a. you refer only to the disbelief in one particular God and, b. you change the definition of atheist, like you did in this video.

Before anyone replies to this, look up agnosticism.

  • lol this is what I mean, I can't argue with pure ignorance... Atheism is so much crap... all you people do is worship yourselves... how will we ever get anything done around here I wonder... I"m not going to reply to a comment unless it hints that the writer had more than enough sense to say something.. oh i don't know... SMART!

  • @aDuncecapa

can't you get anything right? now atheism is worshiping yourself? Tell me, how do you come to these conclusions? do you host a lottery up your ass and pull up a random winning fact out of it? Since when does not worshiping god mean worshiping yourself? I personally don't know any atheist that are narcissists, and i actually know a few religious people who are. Ironic isn't it? whether you're obsessed with yourself or not does not hinge on not believing in god you moron.

  • @aDetectiveA Atheists dont worship anything... thats part of the perks of being an atheist. You dont have to spend time worshiping an imaginary friend in the sky. And atheists get done most of the technological advancements and medical technologies of today. We accomplish a disproportionate quantity of advancement. Your lack of intelligence is evident in your lack of reason illustrated by your belief in a god. Its the 21st century. Wake the fuck up!

  • You're a very funny. It always makes me appreciate the people who have taught me throughout my life a little more when I see something like this.

Don't ask a question when you don't plan on acknowledging the answer. All you have accomplished is making a very silly video, robbing people of 1:17 of their lives. I would hope you actually read your comments and maybe even learn a little something about the large group of people you are attacking.

Atheism is not a religion BTW. :]

  • You're a very funny. It always makes me appreciate the people who have taught me throughout my life a little more when I see something like this.

  • Sorry but you're wrong.. If someone makes a claim the burden of proof lies on the claimer, not the person who asks for proof.

I am telling you now that there is a green unicorn on my roof. Do you believe me? No? According to your logic that makes your believe in it NOT being there equal to my claim that it IS. This is obviously nonsense..

And atheism is as much a religion as NOT collecting stamps is a hobby.

  • *sigh* i could give you answers, but you'd ignore me and say i'm avoiding the question.

you already have the answers set in your mind so what's the point of me trying to tell you otherwise? THERE IS NONE (there, i've answered it!)

  • And atheism does have factual benefits, it clears your mind of idiotic fairy tales to make room for TRUE knowledge. That doesn't mean you automatically become smarter by being an atheist, but it does mean that you start with a clean slate to gain real knowledge, because lack of knowledge is better than having false knowledge. As far as knowledge goes, Atheism=0, religion=-1, and 0>(-1).

  • You're really confused about some terms. Agnosticism means you don't think people can KNOW for CERTAIN whether or not a god exists. Atheism means you don't PERSONALLY THINK a god exists. Both are compatible. For example, I'm an agnostic atheist because I don't think people can know for certain whether or not a god exists, but I think there PROBABLY is not one. The probability of a god existing is the same as a meteor falling on my head right now; it's stupid to live your life as if it's true.

  • Yes, you're probably correct about the semantics of defining oneself as either atheist or agnostic. I guess the definitions become fuzzy depending on the strength of disbelief and upon one's understanding of the textbook definitions of the terms. It would be unscientific to fully assert that no god existed because a 100% proof does not exist. Nonetheless, available evidence makes it highly improbable, which is far better than the available evidence for the alternative, which is nil.

  • Assume you and I find a man deceased in his home. You look at him and say "This man was murdered!" I look at him, see no sign of trauma, and say "I don't think he was." Who has the burden of proof? The one who claims something IS or the one who claims something IS NOT.

  • The burden of proof for something that is not immediately measurable or even observable rests on the person who claims that something is there. Benefits of being atheist- You realize that maybe we are all in this together, floating on a rock in space. That reciprocal experiences- love, community, friendship- have always been person to person, not person to "space-god". If God existed, I think maybe he would want you to speak in a way that would draw people together, but you are divisive sir.

  • @miketolman do atheists draw people closer to them... half the atheists I've met sound like complete morons who only want to communicate with theists to insult them... Christians have a goal to unite people, Atheists by no means have a goal to unite people, because that isn't what Atheism is all about, it's up to the person to decide whether or not he wants to be kind and loving and to unite people in a community... on the other hand all these things make up what it means to be a Christian...

  • @aDetectiveA The only common denominator with Atheists is that they don't believe in God. Some seek to belittle, some seek to unite. I've never desired to be removed from the brotherhood of man. And I think I wish for unity as much as any Christian may. Would you agree that the degree to which various sects of Christianity actually promote unity and community also varies? Also, there are those who claim to be Christian that don't embody those principles, it is always up to the person.

  • @miketolman exactly, there will always be exceptions but when we talk about people we are always talking about the majority, not all Muslims are terrorists, I"m sure there are a few Atheists who would admit that Atheism is not believing in God.. but for the most part, most Atheists like to say, "We Lack belief" Which is just a way to say, "I have no proof that atheism is right but I'll keep calling Theists wrong! When they ask me for proof I will always use the same excuse!"

  • @aDetectiveA Be careful not put words in every non-believer's mouth. You have mentioned that the atheists you have talked to only want to argue and belittle, I am saying that not every atheist you will talk to will be like that- that's all. If we try to talk in a mutually respectful way then maybe progress will be made. But if we come out swinging it will only be a fight. The atheist community is disparate, there is no central doctrine, so blanket statements couldn't possibly be accurate.

  • @miketolman no, no, I have a close personal friend who is an atheist, and he's a nice guy... maybe it's because most of the Atheists who have YouTube accounts devote their entire lives to arguing in channel comments, so I guess it's more common to come across an angry insulting atheist than to come across your average Joe nice guy atheist like the one's I've met in person...

  • @aDetectiveA - Really? Unite people? Is that why their are approximately 38,000 Christian denominations? Come on now.

  • @Kwinnky just reading the Bible doesn't help, I've read the Qur'an many times too, there's a difference between reading and opening up to the text... I suggest giving it another read, because the person you were yesterday might not be the person you are today... you could read the Bible a thousand times and still be able to suck up all the information there is to get...

  • After i read all the comments, i think this guy isn't for real man lol.....or is he???

  • I hope you do understand that gnostic/agnostic is not polarized against theistic/atheistic. When I tell you that I do not believe in a divine entity based upon the current information that I have seen; but that I do not know if a divine entity exists, I am discussing both my belief system (atheistic) and my knowledge system (agnostic).

One does not preclude the other.

  • @rchodges and then some Atheists also claim that there is no proof of God, and they claim that as a fact... which I just don't approve of, Theists aren't just brain washed into it, we have seen the proof that's why even as adults we still believe... you want proof, read the Bible, the New Testament, you'll be surprised to find our why so mane people turn towards Christianity...

  • @aDetectiveA Proof of a divine entity is inherently subjective, such as when people say they are "speaking with God" or "God told me what I should do". Simply being subjective data doesn't inherently disprove the truth or the value of the statement, but it does mean that it can only convince the person who receives said evidence.

You believe in God because you have "proof". Unfortunately, that proof is only useful to you.

  • @rchodges but that proof will also be useful to you when you read the Bible, like I said, Christianity is a relationship, a personal religion that can personally touch an entire nation... The Bible is more than just a book of rules and stories, and when you read it for yourself, you'll understand just what I mean...

  • @aDetectiveA I've read the Bible quite a bit, having spent my childhood in a Baptist school and attending church. The Bible lends itself to certain errancy issues which require additional and externalized sources for explanation.

With that being said, I certainly don't fault an individual for their theistic beliefs (having spent years with the same ones), but I do find it frustrating to have my beliefs dictated to me, especially on a subject so personal.

  • @rchodges don't worry, I wasn't dictation your beliefs, I was only dictation the actual definition of Atheism... I was only pointing to where so many people think Atheism makes them a super genius, while I'm just saying, Atheism is not that, you can label yourself with anything, that doesn't change who you are... just like you can call yourself a Christian, that doesn't necessarily make you 100% Christ Like...

  • Reasonable atheist, scientist, people that work in courts and people of above average intelligence cringe when ever people like you claim the skeptic has to prove their position of rejection.

The burden of proof is up to the believer making the claim.

  • @mrcoldheart funny how you link Atheists together with Scientists... that's not very reasonable... Science and reason and logic isn't a perk that comes with being Atheist, a mental retard could be atheist, would you call him filled with logic or scientific knowledge? ...you are still you, no matter what label you give yourself...

  • lol sorry, replied too many times with same thing.

  • @Kwinnky And is there something wrong with my God? Have you ever read the Bible before, like a whole book and not just a few of the popular verses? You should give Matthew a try, I think You'll find somethings very interesting...

  • And for the source, here's what it says on dictionary(dot)com

    noun

    1. the doctrine or belief that there is no god.

    2. disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.

disbelief - to refuse to believe

In the passive sense, "disbelieve" can simply mean "not believe" — thus a person who disbelieves a claim may simply not accept the truth of the claim without going any further.

Go to atheism(dot)about(dot)com to read about the defintioins of atheist.

  • Here is the legal definition according to Black's Law Dictionary;(And some other sources too)

-Atheist : One who does not believe in the existence of a God.-

This describes """"""""""""""a lack of belief. """""""""""""

"I am an atheist because there is no evidence for the existence of God. That should be all that needs to be said about it: no evidence, no belief." -Dan Barker

Go look up strong and weak atheistism. It should clear up your confusion if you're open mind. (:

  • @xxxbilly have you read it form the Websters dictionary or dictionary (dot) com? usually when two sources state something different from another, then you can eliminate that source as unreliable... Strong or weak, atheism still has one point, you don't believe in God, and there will be many who will be skeptical of you, you can't just assume that if you don't believe in God that you're on the right side and we are the one's only to give proof, but both side must provide proof and reasoning...

  • @Kwinnky So then that makes you an Agnostic right? Not an Atheist.... therefore if you really are Agnostic then I say you are more logical than Atheists already...

  • Where is the proof that Cthulhu does not exist? Cthulhu is a super being that, according to HP Lovecraft, is not made of what we classically refer to as matter, but it could definitely be real albeit undetectable. Where is the proof that acthulhuism is accurate and correct?

  • @aDetectiveA Atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist. How can you tell if unicon is fake, can you provide me evidents and not just claim that you believe that it doesn't exist? No,you can't,the most reasonable and logical reason you can give is that there's NO strong evident that support its' existence. The same thing to your God, I deny it because there's no reasonable proof that it exists.

  • your thumbs down are increasing in numbers...rightfully. you obviously do not know the definition of "religion". I'll leave it there...shame on you for lying, unless you're just being ignorant...

  • @napula123 I get thumbs down because just like you, people can't be reasoned with, they believe that everything they do is right, everything they believe is right and if someone thinks differently then they strike them down, or in this case, thumbs down... and also because lots of "Atheists" have no life, they stay on the internet searching for videos all day because they have nothing better to do.... sad, sad... and I go out on mission trips....

  • @aDetectiveA people thumbs down videos for a variety of reasons. If someone watches someone's video of them playing the piano and they think their technique is dreadful then they will thumb down their video, not because they have no life, have nothing better to do, or are trying to "strike them down". You have to face the fact that some people in this world just don't agree with everything you have to say. If you don't like that, just block comments and ratings.

  • @aDetectiveA you are not reasoning...your definition of religion is faulty, furthermore, by your "reasoning", anybody could believe anything and we should not strike them down, because they might be right...well, you have to prove you're right first...I believe it is my intellectual duty to not let people like you deceive others, I live my life by my own standards and I wish you'd do the same...I support rational debate not wishful thinking, before replying please read the definition of religion

  • @napula123 and you should read the definition of atheism, you'll be surprised how many times the word belief or claim is actually used in the official definition... Because your misconception of Atheism only acts as a ploy for you to get out of answering the question, "Why are you right? And how do you know I'm wrong?" Why do I have to show you proof first, I think both are at equal numbers to have proof, no favoritism in this society...

  • @aDetectiveA I take it you didn't take my advice and find out what religion actually means...awesome dude, best wishes, get well soon...

  • @napula123 Well if I'm sick, then I'm glad to be sick... rather be Sick with the Holy Spirit than be sick with my own disgusting self....

  • @aDetectiveA wow...way to go

  • @napula123 thanks, I take pride in that... Blessed is he who is persecuted for Christ's name sake, for their reward will be in heaven...

  • @aDetectiveA mkay

  • @aDetectiveA Well, you know what, Mr. Defective? Some of those people who stubbornly think they're right, actually ARE right. But that would not be you.

  • Insisting that we use your definitions won't get you anywhere. If you use the definition of atheist that they claim there can be no gods, then it up to you to find someone who fits that definition so you can ask the question. Good luck.

  • @funningincircles this is the exact definition of Atheist -

    Atheist

    (noun)

a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.

You can't argue with facts and if you insist on using your personal definition of atheist, well then you're sticking just as close to the facts as evolution and the big bang are "factual"

  • @aDetectiveA My point was that you are not arguing with people who believe that all things that could be called gods are impossible, you are in fact arguing with people who currently do not believe in a god(s). If you want to argue with someone who does believe that all things that could be called gods are impossible, then good luck finding one.

Simply finding someone who uses a word differently is not the same thing. If I call myself a chicken, I do not change. Labels do not change me.

  • @funningincircles yes but your labels change what people think of you... if you call yourself an Atheist then we assume you deny God's existence... therefore we ask you for proof... if you call yourself an agnostic then we assume you are smart enough to not give your self, imaginary reassurance that God really doesn't exist and at least as an agnostic you are on a more reasonable level. it would be pointless for me to argue with an Atheist because they have faith that they are right and I am not

  • @aDetectiveA Okay, that would be a good point if this were the first day you have interacted with people calling themselves atheists. Since you have now read comments from people calling themselves atheists, you can stop 'assuming' what their position is and start talking to them with the knowledge of what their actual position is. OR you can keep on insisting that they hold your dictionary's position, and keep getting the same comments over and over.

  • God is supposed to be everywhere. I can see my computer so he's not between me and it. Since he must be everywhere if he exists and he isn't everywhere, he doesn't exist.

  • @Chuck1863 then you fail for not seeing God, for no feeling his presence, it is you who acts as a broken radio, or a broken camera lens, you fail to see him, because you have chosen to look the other way...

  • @aDetectiveA If there's a god then I am as he made me. I have no control over whether or not I can see or feel him, no matter which way I choose to look. I have no idea how that might be done.

  • @Chuck1863 you read the book of Matthew, then you open your mind to the things that you have just read... and you tell me, are the things written in the first book of the New Testament so bad? So Flawed? ...by the way I'm sure you have a Bible, by now everyone in America or Europe should have one... and if you don't then there's always the internet... Reading one book of the Bible seriously WILL change you, I promise, as long as you open your mind and heart... your life will be touched by God...

  • @aDetectiveA How do I open my mind and heart? I have no idea how to do those things. Either something makes sense to me or it doesn't. It's not by my conscious choice.

  • @aDetectiveA I could just as easily say that if you fail to sense Cthulhu's presence, then it's because you have chosen to ignore it. Do you see why this is an illegitimate response to someone who doesn't believe in things that are not empirically observable?

  • what are the benefits of not believing in Allah or Mithra or Zeus...

  • @sigmet61 I believe Allah is not the same gad as My God, I believe Zeus is a fake and Mithra isn't real, I am able to make these claims because I've heard of them before there fore I either must say I believe it or I doubt it, the only reason someone would lack a brief in God is if they've never heard his name before, making that person an agnostic with no clear direction of theism... you on the other hand have heard about God, so do you believe or deny him?

  • What is a religion first? Does atheism have anything approaching "clearly defined rules?" Not in the least. There is only one "rule," and that is the rule of the definition of "atheism" - not having any belief in any gods. Other than that, atheists are free to do whatever they want and still be called atheists. Yea, it's a belief but it exists because the word "god" was created first. For anyone who believes there's a god, the proof burden is on you first.

  • @xxxbilly then you are an agnostic, because an atheist is by eXACT definition, look it up if you want, - a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings. - if you are an atheist then you DENY God's existence and therefore must justify your denial as well, if you don't have an opinion either way then that makes you agnostic, so I"ll ask you do you believe in God, yes or no?

  • When discussing theist/atheist and gnostic/agnostic, there are four possibilities 1) Agnostic atheist – doesn’t believe a god exists, doesn't claim to know that no god exists, 2) Gnostic atheist - believes that no god exists, claims to know this is true, 3) Agnostic theist - believes a god exists, doesn't claim to know that this true, and 4) Gnostic theist - believes a god exists, claims to know this is true.

  • You have a fundamental misconception about atheism and agnosticism. Theism/atheism refers to a belief. Gnosticism/agnosticism refers knowledge.

  • @aestimatio Atheists always like to use the technical definitions when it comes to agnosticism, but when it comes to the technical definition of an Atheist, "One who denies the existence of a god" they get all defensive and say, "oh no, Atheism isn't a claim or a belief it;s a lack" ,....it's not true and it's getting old, if their going to stick to technical definitions then they should use them for both atheism and agnosticism...

  • @aDetectiveA Since you seem to think you can define the position an atheist holds, would you allow me to define your religion of choice? Within each religion there are multiple variations. Can I pick one and use that definition and claim it represents your religious belief?

  • @aestimatio yes, if you want to use ONE of the definitions, but in the English language, sir, words have MULTIPLE definitions and another definition for Agnostic is one who believes we will never know whether or not God actually exists.... keep that in mind when you research words... more than one definition....

  • @aDetectiveA You are so hypocritical. You select and mold information to justify your beliefs rather than let information guide your beliefs. For example, in your response to my post you claim words have multiple definitions. You do this because it was necessary to support your position. However, in your response to xxxbilly you state “an atheist is by eXACT definition, look it up if you want…". So, do words have “exact” definitions or do they have multiple meanings?

  • @aestimatio Yes, Mr. Defective can't even keep his own lies straight.
