2/2 I always wondered, what if I just went BB (big block) so I studied around an found people with cubic inches up to 700 driving street but I wanted some economy. I talked with some boat racing guys ideas. I scraped my boat an put my LS7 in my truck which worked great but to much cam. So I went stock with high compression but not to high. Still can run regular and swap the gears for 3.08s average 16mpg with a mid 12sec pic up. You spend more money on a small block to get the same power.
@nachtmahr24. [1/2] like the old saying gos. There ant no replacement for displacement. If you want a good example, I have a 82 silverado that came with a 305. I rebuilt that F'er, got good power out of it but never but never enough, also had bottom end problems with it cuz small blocks are not naturally durable an the kick in the ass with nitrous excelled my issues. Now there are well built engines out there an personally I love the good all 305/327 combos but money is always an issue.

@ag72 engines with high compression and high flow exhaust with headers and an agressive cam sound like that. sounds like hes got flowmasters on it. i had a built 350 that sounded like that but had a little bit faster idle with almost 12:1 compression. but sometimes when i tell ppl things like that they dont know what the hell im talking about. also u have to hear that in person. the camera dosent do it justice.

nice truck man 454 just sounds alot more fun then my 383 stroker what cam you have in there now. I have a LUNATI VOODOO CAM 60103sk. I can see why you went with a larger cam for that 454 anything over a .550 lift scares me lol
advance the timing a bit and it will idle better unless this was a cold start. P.S nice ride I'm working on an 86 short box myself and making the wife mad cause I spend more money on it than her ha ha oh well.
I hope to have my children alter valve train and read plugs before they are twelve, so that they can be programming ethanol fuel maps or Amperage pulse widths for traction motors as teenagers. If you're an adult and haven't modified the top end lubrication on a Ford, experimented with crankcase vacume or firing order swaps on a SB Chevy, or cut the ports on a Mazda rotary by now...you're behind the learning curve. I put a hood on my five year old whenever I TIG, she says the arc looks pretty.
at 1:05 there was suppose to be a A/C line going to the A/C compressor but it is CUT OFF. WHO CARE REALLY ABOUT A/C IN ANYTHING AS LONG AS YOUR WINDOW ROLL UP AND DOWN AND THAT YOU DON'T HAVE SHORT IN WIRES OR WRECK POWER WINDOW MOTOR.
i used to have a 454 with a big cam but got rid of it it would suck cuz if wasnt running the carb rich when i come to a red light if i wouldnt rev it it would start to idle reall low and some times turn off and and i would be reving it some times the person thought i wanted to race and no wasnt a dayly driver
sounds sweet. i just seen this totally mint 87 silverado with the complete chrome package. you could eat off the engine compartment it was so clean. unfortunately it's at a dealers lot. they want $14,000 for it.
WARDRAGONZ23 is a dumbass. It needs some minor tweaks here and there and it will be Badass. The 454 sounds nice and beefy with that cam :). I like overall condition of the body on your truck too. It also has a purty billet grille (similar to one that I want to put on my 84 GMC High Sierra) But my truck is not nearly as cool as this. I only have the standard 350/350 (used to have a 305). And my trucks body is pretty dented up. i eventually want to paint mine the original 2 tone brown/tan.
whats up man??? i like what youve started. it sounds like a few simple things might need to be done... // check your idle and bring it up just a hair. and if you havent; you may need to pull your heads and have them shaved no more than .30 to help work with the cam; you might even pick up more hp than you know. Those look like stock GM heads. Keep up the work, its slammin!
Very nice. I've got a very similar truck (79 C-10, 454, TH400, 14 bolt 4.10 rear). Passes everything but the gas station, thats the only part that really sucks! I am thinking about a built 700r4 and fuel injection to ease up on the fuel consumption. 3.06 first gear would be killer with a 454.

nice truck man and yes rtather sizable cam there i built a olds 350 in my old cutlass and with a rahter large cam i idle the car at 110 rpm with a 3500 rpm stall ran good and still work well on the road but buying a good and brand name stall is the key to making it work with the to idle right and get off the line good
Looks like a good project you got going. Sounds like it idling pretty slow though. A slow idle is hard on parts including the cam with oil sling off of the crank not reaching it to help keep it lubed. Just a comment from experience. Keep up the good work and check out my '87 Chevy truck stuff some time.

@gerardoalopez no such thing as too big lmao, unless you have wrong combo, then yes, my sbc has a 620 lift cam in it. my bbc has a 680 and a 710 lift both pump gas motors.

@gerardoalopez lets here that cam afterthe truck is warmed up and the converter is hot see if itsounds the same then its a cam~! i have a compcams 292/501 and mine sounds likethat even after its warmed up and i have a compcams 280/480 they sound nasty when they are warmed up but a 270/470 almost sounds stock when its warmed up when a cold stall is started up just about all stock cams sound like they are a monster cam till about 10 to 15 min then hear them~!

that truck is a piecce of shit it doesnt have a cam at all it the carbeurator is all fucked up my dad fixed it and after he was done with it sounded pretty quiet but strong
you obviously no dick about car/trucks, nobody is gunna spend all that money rebuilding a 454 and putting it in a c10 and after all that putting a junk carb on it please your a little kid, o and theres no such thing as a quiet 454, unless its turned off that is.

Looks like a good project you got going. Sounds like it idling pretty slow though.
