  • When the hell was the from the 50's didn't t the Japanesse have the modern fights to comment on??

  • Goodness gracious, they didn't have any technical skill what so ever back then.

  • --I can't believe there are defenders of Carnera's talent here. I have no doubt the guy could punch, but like most really big guys, once you clip em on the chin, they don't take it well. I also saw a cast of Carnera's fist, though, and it was about three times the size of my own, so I have no doubt that his bowling-ball sized hand would do some damage.

  • senza dubbio fortissimo

IDOLO

  • It looks like Baer is mugging and smiling 50% of the time, toying with the big man-

  • uMMm like O-M-G this is so stupid HAhahha

    RAWRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. msg me!!!!!!!!!! :O) I5

  • Carnera was one of the the few white Heavyweights to fight the top Black heavyweights of the time ie. Gains and Godfrey. He was a big draw on the cover of Time. He earned his title shot via a sequence of legitimate wins over top Heavyweights and fought Sharkey legitimately to win the title. During the years leading up to the championship he was an accomplished boxer and none of the fights were fixed. Watch Carnera/Sharkey II on YouTube yourself. Don King is no different than Carnera's mgr

  • Carnera was a great, would beat Baer, after this false step, hundreds of times ... but the boss of the american boxer never accepted the request of revenge advanced several times by the italian ... and that's history.

  • Primo was a great boxer, and even more a great man, inside and outside, unless you come from another planet. .. 205 cm high for 125 kilograms of weight are important measures ... above all for the averages of the 30's but also for nowdays...

  • ps: I had previously written that the revenge against Max Baer had never been because the manager of the american didn't want this to happen, but it seems, instead, it was the american boss of the italian boxer to not agree to the will of his client... so, sorry for the mistake...

  • Some matches were fake, but not always in favour of Carnera, many others, were authentic and sometimes played and won by the italian boxer in some disadvantaged situation ..., also during the lost match against Baer, Carnera had the broken ankle..., but, in despite of that he wanted to continue the fight...

  • HSJ90: I just did some research on Baer and Carnera. According to the NEW YORK BOXING COMMISION. Tale of the tape as of June, 1934"Carnera 6ft.5 3/4 inch. "Baer 6ft.2 1/2 inches.

  • Well, an inch there and another there, you know what I'm saying?

But what about Braddock? If I remember correctly he was 6'2 ½" too, so he was basically as big as Baer, not as muscular though.

  • Yes, I certainly like Max Baer (or at least I think I would've liked him if I was around back then) and I didn't like the way he was portrayed in the Cinderella Man, as I've seen a few interviews of him, he seemed like a very nice guy, not the kind of chump he was in the movie. So I would love to see a Max Baer- movie with authentic details given by his family.

  • I don't know what do mean by "Braddock never had much of a life as Max" but Braddock was a regular, working man just trying to feed his family by fighting as it was probably the only thing he was good at. So basically Baer was a party going -type, Braddock was not.

  • I'm familiar to maxbaerdotorg and have read a lot of things about him. You can't just watch the Cinderella Man and make conclusions about Baer based on the film (I'm not referring to you, I'm just saying). They just made him the original "bad guy" of the movie, you know? Which was a pretty dumb move from the writers or whomever.

But yeah, Max Baer was totally different in real life.

  • He even said in an interview (about Jimmy Braddock): "I think he's a greatly underrated fighter. Jimmy Braddock has a terrific right hand and if he hits me on the chin with that right hand on June the 13th, and something :D I don't hear clearly what he says next but the interview is on maxbaerdotorg clip named "1933-1935". There's some other good clips too, if someone's interested.

  • Gee thanks for the free advertising and the kind words, Mister !

I actually have my own YouTube account now and the clip you speak of, where Baer praises Braddock, is #1 of 7 short clips in "Max Baer Misc Clips."

I appreciate that you've visited my website and are passing the truth along. Every little bit helps. Thank again !!

    Cat

  • If you look close when the fighters are standing toe to toe and not bending over, Carnera is only around 3 1/2 inches taller.

  • Well Baer was 6'3". So Carnera being 6'6½" is pretty accurate.

  • lol...this is in korean.

  • OK, someone give me a boxing history lesson; did they not have the 8 or 10 count back then?

  • yeah, but knockouts happened a lot more back then because they didn't have the point system

  • itd be nice if those dumbass asians werent annoying me while i tried to watch this

  • fucking ignorant bitch.

  • fuck you pens you cocksucking bitch im not ignorant

  • It's kind of strange in the movie Cinderella man Max Baer appears to be quite large in relation to J.Braddock, but here he appears puny compared to Carnera

  • vravni; First of all Carnera was 6ft.5 3/4 inch and wt. 270, Baer was 6ft.2 1/2 inch and wt. around 206. Cinderella Man was a real phony movie as they portrayed Baer as a villian. In reality Baer was a great guy, who never bad mouthed anyone. He was a entertainer who played to the crowd.

  • Imagine what a trainer like Lou Duva could've done with a giant like Carnera.

  • Scottin: It's funny how everyone refered to Carnera as a giant. He was only 6ft.5 1/2 inch. Im 6ft. 4 inch. im not a giant. I guess back in those days anyone over 6Ft. was considered tall.

  • He was 6 and 7 (204 m) at his peak. the measure 6 and 5 was when took post mortem.

  • Criceto: Your wrong Primo was 6 ft. 5 3/4 inch. If you compare Baer to Primo the diff was around 3 inche diff. Ring Mag. issue 1938 had a trainer saying that Primo was measured at 6-5 3/4 inch.

  • Primo was measured by an universitary in Italy when he became famous and they found him at 204 cm. He shurnk to 1,9 something shortly near his death.

Even Andre the Giant was under 2 meters post mortem.

  • Criceto: Pardon my stupidity but what is 204 cm.??? Also, he was measured in 1937 per New York Boxing Commision as 6Ft 5 3/4, it is on record at New York Times June 18, 1937.

Press only fabricated his height as being a giant. HaHa i have to laugh as im 6ft. 3 and im no giant. I guess in those days anyone over 6ft. was tall.

  • Carnera was a much better fighter than people say. Much of his poor reputation comes from the fact all the knockdowns in this fight were edited together and shown as a comedy.. If you watch the whole fight, he is constantly troubling Baer with his jab & is far from the stumbling incompetent he is often remembered as.

  • heltopo: I disagree with you about Carnera being a good fighter. Baer only toyed with him. Baer could have knocked him out in round 1 if he wanted to. Records show Carnera was set up by the mob. After the Baer fight most everyone destroyed poor primo.

  • I'm not saying he was a 'good' fighter, but he is much better than he is given credit for. he beat a lot of good men who all swear that their defeats were not fixed. I also think Carnera's poor reputation is due to the Bogart movie 'The harder they fall' where the fictional fighter Toro (who is based on Carnera) does have all his fights fixed. The myth that Max Baer 'killed' Ernie Shcaaf also originates from this movie.

  • helltopo: I absolutely agree with your comments of HARDER THEY FALL. You could be right about Carnera's fights, but I do not think so. You know that Baer should not have been in the film as he was too old. I think that role caused his early death.

  • burtwiseman, I agree that Baer was way too old to be in that movie as was Braddock, but I haven't read anywhere that it was a factor in his early death.

Its odd that Baer like Carnera has had his reputation sullied by Hollywood. He was not the monstter Ron Howard made him look in 'Cinderella Man'.

  • Helltopo: Im surprised Baer Jr. did not take Ron Howard to court for the false portrayal of Baer in that stupid movie CINDERELLA MAN. I guess that's why it failed at the box office. Go to maxbaerdotorg for the real story of Baer.

  • I thought that too burtwiseman, but there's nothing in U.S law which allows him to take Howard on in court. You can say what you like about the deaad and get away with it - amazing but true. I'm not a big Baer fan, but the fabrications in the movie made me really angry - especially how they had him gloating over the death of Campbell.

  • yes, Baer took 50 punches in the head in 15 rounds by Primo Carnera, only for toying..

  • Criceto: So your saying Carnera was good???? The man was controled by the mob.

The mob could not control Baer nor Louis and the rest is history. Come on be educated.

  • "The mob" did control ALL the world of boxing , helping or obstructing a boxer' career ,including Luis. Baer was a terror in his day and he beat even Schelling and Sharkey and Primo, with a broken ankle, did better then Schelling against Baer.

Primo Carnera was a legit contender in his days.

  • Criceto: Please do better on your spelling. Baer never fought Sharkey and Carnera never broke his ankle, he only sprained it. Most of Carnera's fights were set ups. Your wrong about the mob control of boxing. The mob only controled Carnera and a few other fighters, but not that many.

  • If Carnera was rubbish, why he dominated most of the rounds and why he lasted 11 rounds too. Baer should have knocked him out in a couple of rounds if Carnera was that bad, shouldn't he? But Carnera never stayed on the ground for more than 2 seconds! He kept falling down just because his ankle was hurting.

  • Quebecc: Baer liked to toy with fighters so that is why all his fights were sell outs. If you read old newspapers, Baer played to the crowd and never really liked to k.o. in early rounds. After the Baer fight, Primo was destroyed by 2nd and 3rd rated fighters.

  • You're wrong!! Bear won 72 times and 56 times for K.O in his career!! He also killed a fighter in the ring (Can't remember his name). After Bear, Primo lost against JOE LOUIS who was a legend unbeaten for 10 years!!

  • primo carnera was one of the few european boxers to get the heavyweight title. thats earned him my respect, and it should of earned him your respect as well. not that he would care about our respect... but still

  • Okay, I have no doubt that these guys are tougher than modern day boxers but the beginning of round 2 was one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen.

  • i give all the boxers from the 1930,s props they were all tough back then compared to now

  • Carnera said he got injured in this fight getting up from the stool between the first and the second round. As far as boxing skills go, I think Massimo Baer was probably not more skilled than Carnera. Baer looked often very clumsy in the ring. For instance, watch his fight with Louis...Louis couldn't miss him with his jab. But Massimo had one hell of a right hand!

  • It's fair to call Carnera a giant. He has been listed at 6'5.5" to 6'8.5" 275 pounds, which puts him among the giants, both height and weight wise, of all time among heavyweights. For instance, Lennox Lewis is 6'5, 247 pounds & Vitali Klitchko is about 6'6-6'7.

  • I am still waiting for someone to make a movie of the life story of MAX BAER. What a story that would make. CINDERELLA MAN portrayed Baer 100% false. Baer had a heart of gold and was one of the most loved fighter in the world of boxing.

  • The movie Cinderella man was kind of biased towards the English people because J.Braddock was of Irish origin, the biographer who interviewed Braddock in the change room was not Greek, Italian, German nor Jewish(as Baer was)but Engish speaking

  • As a matter of fact the punishment Carnera absorbed was so severe that even Baer himself wanted the referee to stop the fight.

  • Well, you can't see all of those 11 knockdowns in these two videos of the fight, only eight or so. In case you didn't notice I do not have every round of this fight.

I agree that Carnera had his moments but in the end of the day Carnera took a beating!

  • Max Baer was only 6'2" 1/2. If you watch carefully the fight Carnera had some good rounds. And I didn't

get knocked down 11 times! 3 times both fighters fell to the canvas. Primo got knocked down many times but not 11!

  • Carnera has been meausured by an American doctor at 6'5" 3/4.

  • iaoming: Your right about Carnera's height, as he was only 6Ft.5 3/4 inch. I had to laugh when they refered Carnera as a giant. In those day's over 6 Ft. was a giant. When Carnera came over in 1930 they listed him at 6 Ft. 8 inch a monster.

  • Even in the movie Cinderella man, Carnera is portrayed as an Incredible Hulk like figure, much similar to those WWF wrestlers

  • He did wrestling after

  • Well it wasn't very technical boxing especially in round 2... but gotta admit this fight is still much more exciting to watch than many of today's heavyweight title fights.

  • What a terrible "boxing" second round...really.

  • Max Baer seemed to be a pretty dirty fighter in His prime, sort of like Fritzie Zivic. He did everything to Carnera except hit Him with a chair.

  • Carnera, was a dirty fighter, he would step on his opponets feet with his 20 inch foot. Baer was only fighting him street style that is the only way he could have fought a dirty fighter like Carnera.

  • Yep,That's how Carnera beat Tommy Loughran

  • thanks

  • Carnera was 2.03 m tall and Baer was 1.93 m. Tall!

  • the best 1 round in boxing history... street fighting

  • Carnera was OWNED
