Beautiful song and sentiment. There's an interesting place that's been set up online where you can enter a house on a map and share a memory - it's called housemarx. Can't post the link here but it's easy to find.
My parents got divorced when I was young. I kinda had 2 Dear old houses I grew up in. Wouldn't you know my parents lost both of them in bank repossessions. This song definitely touches me in ways most people don't seem to understand. It's just a house? No it's really not just a house. Glad someone else feels the same way. Once again Thanks Amanda :'(
This is exactly what I went through three years ago, leaving my old house to move to Pennsylvania. Except for the part that I'm not a rich musician. But you know, maybe someday.
The couple that bought the house renovated it and now it looks completely different. It's really nice but everything's gone now. Memories in my head need the pictures to go with them.
This really is a brilliant song. I heard it for the first time live in Carrboro, N.C., quite a few months ago and had hoped she'd reprise it in her show Nov. 20 with Nervous Cabaret, but no luck. Still a great show, but this song makes me both laugh and cry. ... There is none other like Amanda Palmer.
My father just got married (again) and my newest stepmother is destroying our old, Victorian, beautiful home. She's painting it pastel colors on the inside, and getting rid of all of the beautiful, antique wallpaper and tile. It's not home, anymore. She's invaded, sold all of my childhood belongings and boxed everything else I own up and put it in the attic. The kicker: I still live there.
It's okay, though, because when they're old, I'll change everything back.
My father just called and said he's gonna sell the house I grew up in... Never thought I would feel like this, and right now this song just says it all for me... > dear old house that i grew up in i've never really been in love you took my heart when i was a child noises wrapped around my little body like a winter glove you're just a random set of objects in a town thats filled with sadness in the armpit of the world =(
Huh, at first I was thinking "I'm not hearing the song in here," but as it goes on it starts to work, and it's become a really touching little thing by the end of it. Good song, Amanda.

I'm crying a lot right now. I moved from my hometown two years ago and apparently I had a lot of buried emotions about it that this song brought out.

The best part of this song is all the stories it’s got everybody telling about their own childhood homes. Amanda makes poets of the rest of us.

Listening to this song a lot recently, since I'm in similar straits. Thank you, Amanda, for expressing my thoughts in song. Always.

I've moved maybe 10 times before I was 12, so I have no idea what she's talking about ;-)

"It doesn't feel like anywhere when you can't go back home" is one of the most strikingly beautiful lyrics I've ever heard.
