  • For me excelent explanation, very very clear, and thie is very good for all golfers. Thank you

  • thanks for this... it helps me...

  • Great videos ! I have been playing for years and some of the rules are still confusing.

  • Thanks, one last question, you say that if you thin a shot from a green side bunker then you can play that stroke again from the bunker under penalty, lets say you chip a shot onto the green with no hazard between you and the green, the ball rolls across the green and into the water hazard on the opposite side. Can you take a penalty shot from where you last played (fairway or fringe) ,or do you have to take the line of flagstick and point of entry, thus playing over the hazard to the green

  • @Ninjaw78 Yes, at any time a player may choose to play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played, i.e., proceed under penalty of stroke and distance (Rule 27-1), but this is also one of the options listed in both taking relief from a water hazard (Rule 26-1a), and ball unplayable (Rule 28).

  • Great information, but having watched both your lateral and water hazard rules is there any priority that the selection of shot that should be played, for instance if in a dry lateral hazard or the margin of a water hazard and you can't play the ball out due to a bad lie and decide to take a penalty drop, what should be the next option to be considered ,and if that is not suitable which one next and so on, basically is there any strict order that should be adhered too. Thanks

  • @Ninjaw78 The best option will vary with the circumstances. In most cases the best option in taking relief from a lateral water hazard may be to drop a ball within two clublengths of the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard, not nearer the hole. Otherwise, the player will be playing over the hazard. However, if you have just thinned a shot from a green side bunker into a hazard the best option could be to play from the bunker again.

  • what if you lose your ball after searching for it? Do you have to go back to the tee, or the fairway etc and hit it again? Can you drop the ball around the place where you think you lost it.

very nice explanations on your videos by the way.

  • @CaptainAndrewWiggins If your ball is lost you MUST play another ball, under penalty of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played, Rule 27-1.

  • very informative, thank you

  • yimboxer 2,

Water hazards are defined by yellow stakes and/or lines, lateral water hazards are defined by red stakes and.or line.

Answering the previous query from sportbob, if one of the options is not available to the player is not playable then obviously the player has to choose another option, one of which is to go back to where the previous stroke was played from under penalty of stroke and distance.

  • what color is lateral water hazards stakes? please

  • it`s quite confusing.....

  • What if the area behind the water hazard in the back of the green is not playable?

  • @sportbob If one or more of the relief options is not available, or practical, the player obviously has to choose one of the other options. In many cases this will mean that the player has to go back to where they last played from, under penalty of stroke and distance.

  • No, that option only applies to lateral water hazards (designated with red stakes and/or lines. Also, you have to drop a ball within two club-lengths of the point where the ball LAST crossed the margin and not nearer the hole. See my other video on lateral water hazards.

    Barry Rhodes

  • so in scenario #2 and #3, you can't drop on the green? ... 2 club lengths no closer to the hole?

cause thats what I would do.

  • No, this option only applies to lateral water hazards (red stakes and or lines) and then it has to be within two clublengths of where the ball LAST crossed the margin of the hazard, not nearer to the hole.

  • @9ty9 you saying lateral water hazards is red stakes?

  • if ball over the green and get in the hazard than where ball should be drop

  • "Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball LAST crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped." I think if you watch the video again you will see that I have covered this situation.

  • It's too bad you use the phrase "through the green" when you meant "over the green" since "through the green" has a defined meaning within the Rules of Golf which is different than how you used it. The choice of words is really important in the Rules!! :)
