@Geoxile I can't give you a first had interpretation, but i have heard that the sound quality on the s9 (as well as the j3) is the best on the market. the zune hd hisses, though you can only hear it if you have high quality iem's (i have the hje900's from panasonic :) ). the ipod sound quality is shit, from what i've heard. hope i could help :)

@mastershake2393 Well I'm looking at the archos 43 and Samsung Galaxy player now but thanks. And the Zune HD, weird. My Zune 80GB sounds fine through my JVC RX700s and Swan M10s. Didn't think they're get worse with the audio processing. Is it on a high volume or something?

@Geoxile my volume isn't extremely high, i usually have it at around 12~14 depending if i'm at home, or in school. my friends have the same prob. with their hd's though and not with their 80's or 120's. i would really like to buy the galaxy player, yet it hasn't come out yet :(

@hawk9900432 They actually are pretty decent headphone as far as starter pair. I don't use them as my main pair. They are much better than the iPod headphones do. Are they great headphones absolutely not. Are they decent enough to use until you can get a premium pair. Yes.

Have you downloaded the latest firmware (version 2.5)? I ordered the 32GB S9 an hour ago. I'm just basking in the reviews while I wait. Send me a PM if you want me to report back on video functionality. Note that not all videos (either because of format, framerate or simple aspect ratio) will play normally. I read that the updated firmware took care of a lot of the problems with the video function.

My 32gb Cowon s9 was playing a video and it kept skipping thru the playback. I thought it was just a minor glitch in playing videos and it went dead. Wont come on or anything. Just died. The mp3 player was so official! Has anyone went thru this or know how to get it to operate again?

Everyone has their own preferences. I prefer excellent sound quality, video compatibility, AMOLED, and battery life over extra apps and accessories, so I'm going to get a S9 soon.

I WAS considering the zune HD, but from what I've read, the only way to fully maximize its potential is to do the 14.99/month membership thing.

I agree with this man. I don't give a damn about an app store or a music store. Just give me nice amount of codec support and custom equalizer support and an audio player with a good sound processor and im set. I dont need all that other junk.

I just got one for chrismas myself, and the codec support is one of the features i appreciate most up until now. It plays pretty much any .avi, and pazera can convert all videos i get in another format like .flv or mpeg to .avi.

I don't have the subscription myself but I love my Zune HD just as much as the Cowon S9. I would recommend either one. Right now i'm using the Zune HD a little bit more.

@bwonedotcom DUDE, i sold my NEW zune hd to get a cowon. basically, zune sound SUCKS. If you dont care about SQ then go zune, i absolutely loved the web browser. But for sound, even my meizu m6 beats zune HD. If you still want to keep the zune hd, i bet it could be a lot better if you buy an amplifier. Cause that piece of crap is not loud, not bass, no EQ, nothing.

Nope, would have been cool if they did add one though...So many audio tweaking available.

Anyhoo, they probably took a Speaker out to save costs and allow you to purchase IEM/headphones that's worth the money.

dedicated buttons for volume and controls. awesome! ipod sucks when you want to go to the next song because you need to take it out. i think touch screen interface is nice but its a little overrated. we need controls that we can use without taking out the device or take our gloves off just to adjust the volume.

very nice. great screen. responsive. GREAT sound quality"what the hell, how do my speakers sound that good" good.

cheap too, compared to most competition. they're coming out with (not sure when) a ceramic white version which looks really nice, wish i had waited. not hard to use, a lotbof people say it's complicated but unless your just straight stupid i don't see how you could spen more then 5-10 minutes getting to know it, which is what you would spend getting used to the touch screen anyway.

Im not to pickish when it comes to sound, I kinda prefer a more..gritty sound...

But, what the S9 doesn't have is the software, nor the internet? I want to listen to music and watch video, but when I'm bored I'd also like to mess around with the software stuff and surf the web.

well u do need a wifi hotspot to watch videos, so u won't have internet all the time, cowon s9 better sound + video, ipod touch more features e.g apps

good job cowon with the oled. the screen is the only thing i see setting this pmp apart from others. its a selling point but it came to late because the next gen of ipod touches with have oled screens no doubt

You can just drag and drop just make sure it's the correct format. If you want to put dvd's use dvdfab it works great for me using the cowon s9.

its just that i have an ipod classic and i wanna replace it entirely. the problem with these touch screen players is the memory is limited so you cant really do that without the storage sacrifice.

i know u have the likes of the archos that has a lot of memory but i don't like the interface and the codec lark is a bit silly.

as i have a cowon U2 i would prefer to go with this company.
