Can some one please tell me how these competitions work when they need to play with an orchestra. Are all the competitors expected to just know a full piano concerto score when the enter? Do the judges the judges say "learn this' to be played at the final in a week or so? Thanks, if anyone knows
@debussy84 All competitors choose their concertos, which, hopefully, they know before they enter the competition. They must play two complete concertos during the final round of the competition, at least in the major competitions (Cliburn, Moscow, Brussels, etc.).
@debussy84 when you enter a competition like this at the beggining when you get all the details there is a list of the repertoire you must learn and there is a list of maybe 10 to 15 concertos that you must choose one to perform during the compeition if u get to the final. you would then learn that concerto or already know it, and play it at the competition
This woman defin has charisma. She was married to Sokolov handsome son also a smart pianist. I turned on radio one night and Skanavi was playing fabulous Australian's Carl Vine SONATA!!!! since then I have found much that she does interesting .
Katia performs in the Melbourne Recital Hall tomorrow evening ( Saturday 16 May 2009 ) at 7pm. I'm looking forward to her performance of Chopin's Grand Polonaise Brillante. Can't wait!
What variation is this?

Katia Sknanavi performes with the same enthusiasm, with the same passion and with similar spirits like Martha Argerich. What a great talent!
