  • Reggie is a much better public speaker.

  • Wow, I can still remember how excited I was when I got my Nintendo 64, bundled with Mario 64 and PilotWings64, good times good times.

  • What I find most interesting is that the underpowered consoles have come out on top for over 10 years now. Mid 90s Gen PS1 – 150 million N64 – 32.93 million Saturn – 9 million Early 2000s Gen PS2 – 150 million XBOX – 24 million Gamecube – 21.74 million Current Gen Nintendo Wii – 86.01 million XBOX 360 – 52.7 million PS3 – 50 million.
  • It was a wonderous day for gamers :)

  • i remember buying n64 when i was 6 or 7 i bought zelda and goldene eye mario and donkey king 64

  • You know when he talked about being immersed in a world, reminded me of OOT. We got so sucked into that.

  • E3 was fucken gay back then

  • wow so long ago :) thows were the days

  • What is this about? I found whatever it was very uninterresting. Go Micrendoga Entertainment!

  • Whether or not the games could only run on 32 bit mode or not, 1 thing is for sure, the visuals for games for this console were a dam lot better than what the PS1 and Saturn were capable of...

  • Yes and no. I don't think GE could be done on the SS but I know the N64 could NEVER run VF2.

  • That spinning SG logo @ 3:02 looks a lot like the NGC menu!

Still, I think what the N64 lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality. A lot of ground-breaking games and ideas eventually set the bar high. True gamers accept the differences and realise both the PS1 and N64 produced gaming gold.

  • I read that developers could only run the games in 32 bit mode cause the system did`nt have enough Ram to run in 64 bit mode and i also read that running the system in 64 bit mode would have decrease system performance. There`s even some claiming that the system was not a 64 bit system but a 32 bit system. But if it really is a 64 bit system it was a waste of money cause Nintendo did not need a 64 bit chip in the system cause 32 bit was sufficient enough just look at the xbox?

  • The funny thing is that apart from hardware flaws, they did get everything right, but ironically that's waht brought them down: the Playstation was simply too well established that no matter how impressive the N64 and SM64 were, wihtout immediately lucrative benefits developers had no reason to go for the new console for which games costed more to produce, over the established Playstation. Speedy establishment in the market would have been the best strategy.

  • I wonder if nintendo will bring out a hardcore console... I mean , I know they make a lot of money on casual gamers, but wouldn't they make a lot more money with 2 separate consoles? One console for the hardcore gamers like the N64 with HD and a normal controller and one console for the casual gamers?

Just suggestion, I don't have any knowledge from a business standpoint.. I'm just an idealist.

I don't own a Wii myself, it's not worth it.

  • for nintendo to be whipped by sony at this time is by no means a success..considering both companies relationships with each other, to be beaten by sony was a massive failure.. i believe i said this was a time of great creativity for nintendo as far as their games were concerned...i'm not hating on the n64, i'm just gutted at where they're going now..have you seen the ant n dec ads?

  • @CAVALLIN0 - N64 was nowhere near a failure as you thought it was. You need to do the math. Your hatred for the Wii just consumes you with irrational judgement. Nintendo has always been there for the kids and family. I dunno where you got the idea Nintendo was supposed to abandon their true demographic.

  • what are you talking about? my hatred for the wii? irrational judgement? steady on..all i said was for sony to outsell nintendo with their first home console was highly unexpected..and i praised nintendo aswell..jeez

  • @CAVALLIN0 - Well what do you mean feeling gutted about where they're going? Nintendo decided to stick with their true demographic and not to go in the exact same direction as Sony and Microsoft has. As a result, Nintendo is benefitting from it.

  • only an over protective fanboy would say that nintendo are benefiting from releasing a plethora of shite party games with their 'seal of quality' on the box.. i have a wii with 7 games and 3 of them are gamecube ports..just because they're making tons of money does not make it good.

  • @CAVALLIN0 - ONLY 7 GAMES ??? Dude you must be very hard to please. Nintendo is not in the business for the "hardcore". They never was !! It was us gamers who coined the retro gaming days as "hardcore". Sega tried to please the "hardcore" with all kinds of beefed-up hardware and software . Look where it got them! Nintendo is a toy & game company. They've been in the business to entertain everyone not just the "hardcore". Love it or leave it.

  • @Grooveraider

they once were more focused on core gamers with SNES and N64... but they are a business first

  • Actually I would say originally, the older audience demographic was very important in the Wii's success. They changed their target audience and have grabbed many more. It was wise from a business standpoint, but a lot of Wii owner's feel betrayed.

  • exactly..business is business..in terms of creativity as far as the console goes, i give the wii 10 out of 10.. creativity as far as the games are concerned i give it a very generous 5.

  • @CAVALLIN0 Sony? Beating the N64? Ha! Great joke.

  • it doesnt mean thta it was a commercial flop that it wasnt good

look at the game the n64 had, super awesome games

  • the n64 may have been a flop commercially but this was one of their most creative periods. I despair at the state of the wii and i honestly have more fun on my n64 and GC.

  • Except it wasn't a flop commercially either.

  • @Cavallin0 - N64 was a commercial success but not at the caliber of their previous consoles NES & SNES. Sure the Sony Playstation did extremely well but Nintendo wasn't that bad off. It performed way better than the Sega Saturn ^_^

  • the N64 made as much money as the SNES for Nintendo. if that's a failure....

just because it didn't sell 100 million doesn't mean it tanked like the Virtual Boy

  • Its hard to believe this was the beginning of 2 really poor generations for Nintendo.

  • yeah, just shows what building a powerhouse console gives you.

  • To think, everything would've been so different if Nintendo had gone with CDs instead of cartridges.

  • @mastgrr Yeah, and the N64 would've had some awesome RPG's made by Square. And if Final Fantasy 7 was released on it, it would've been called Final Fantasy 4, because Final Fantasy 3 is Final Fantasy 6 on the SNES.

  • I don't know why the fuck people are thumbs downing your comment Lorfarius, it's the truth. You people need to compare the 64 & Gamecube's libraries to the NES and SNES. in comparison, 64 and 'cube WERE poor generations.

  • LoL only just noticed the down thumbs. Strange attitude to have because it truly was a downward spiral for Nintendo at least until the Wii came along. They ruled the roost so to speak over the NES and SNES era's then just let the ball slip away with the release of the N64 and didn't do much to improve the situ with the Cube.

  • well i gave ur comment a thumbs up bro

  • the N64 era wasn't poor. it was mostly average since it had very little support but it had really good games.

  • Besides Nintendo games you had very little 3rd party support for games, even the most popular genres like RPG's were barely even touched. It was a poor era after being giants of industry Nintendo were relegated to a distant third.

  • third what? they were a very solid 2nd place everywhere (except japan and only by a few thousands) in the N64 days. Sega was the distant 3rd in that era. it wasn't until the GC era that they really were in the shitter and 3rd place.

also, the NES and SNES weren't that much big in comparison. the SNES sold only 3 more million than the N64 in america (23 vs 20 million sales) and in europe they were only 1 million apart. it was japan where there was a big gap.

    also, not everyone likes RPGs...

  • Quick question, were you actually at this E3 event Grooveraider?

  • @SonicXmario50 - Yes, I was at the event along with two of my other buddies.

  • Thats awesome!

  • Grooveraider- Nice, hopefully I can go to E3 one day.

  • @SonicXmario50 - All it takes is dedication. You'll get there ^_^

  • uve ben to alot of theses things havent u?

  • @RA7ICU5 - I've been to quite abit over the span of 15 years.

  • that is awesome!!
