  • I came here because of Ru Paul's Drag Race Season 3, Episode 4...no likes? Hahaha.

  • This song was number one the day I was born

  • I knew this song before Glee, but after watching Glee, it made me want to dance to this song over and over again! I love this song and I love Glee!

  • FUCK GLEE , If you're here for Glee then FUCK YOU.

  • @wimbledongirl I AGREE!!!!!!

  • Glee sucks. But I'm still going to listen to this song because it's awesome.

  • rave it up! beauty and the beast style!

  • whatever the reason is you're here, I'm sure we all agree this song is AMAZING

  • I grew up listening to this song like crazy. My mama loves this song and use to play it all the time when we were cleaning up the house. Now I love it!

  • Kum - The KENNEDY Ancestor's are waiting for you. 6:04 AM (Earth-Eastern Standard Time), Wed., 1/11/2012 (No Eternity People)

  • I don't see why it's so "bad" that some people view this masterpiece because of a show. Shouldn't we be thanking the show? Long live greatness.

  • Why would it be bad if you came here because of an TV show? I mean, I listen to the radio all day long. It is even playing when I am asleep. But I have never heard this song. The channel I am listening to plays a lot of music from the '60 to '90. I think it is GREAT a TV show can make you like music. You want as much people as you know like the musice you like. why would you be mad if people find out about this through Glee or something else?

But maybe that's just my opinion...

  • @theloverofMJ no, you are absolutely right. why is it a shame that you have known this song because of a tv show? it means that this tv show introduces the new generation to some amazing music like this one. It doesn't matter how you knew something but that because of that you now are able to enjoy something you didn't know before.

  • @carol3793 Hey, nice to see that someone agrees with me ;) You've finished my sentences, haha! Enjoy listening to this song and all the others you find out because of what you see or hear anywhere!

  • @theloverofMJ

(Personally) I don't give a shit if you found this song because of the movie "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" (like me) or because of some TV show that butchers classic songs (but at least makes kids listen to the original versions). But, for Pete's sake, do you want a ribbon for finding it via "Glee"? SHUT THE FUCK UP about it already (or just hit the like button under one of SEVERAL comments about "Glee")!

  • if you came here because of a TV programme, its a shame that TV programme taught u something that you should have known a long time ago..... late starters.

  • ahahah this song was used on glee but it wasn't covered. you can hear it in the scene at the gay bar when kurt dances with blaine. it was awesome and funny! XD

  • OMG! I Thought I was the only one who came here because Glee and Klaine!!!!!

  • How did I get here.... I should not be listening to this... I'm sorry, my opinion.... Don't get mad at my stupid comment...

  • 54

  • One of THE best bass runs in the history of music. If you ain't dancin' to this, check your pulse. You could be dead.

  • @kilts4u2 Seconded!

  • glee make ignorant people learn good music !! and i'm so tired of hearing of it in every video I watch

  • Honestly, it doesn't matter HOW you got here, just that you DID get here!

  • KLAINE UP THE WORLD!

  • Klaine brought me here, I was looking for songs to listen to from glee 3x05 (Just saying best Episode EVERE, and not just cause of Klaine sex, mainly cause of that though) and then this came up, so I typed in Glee dont leave me this way, and It didnt come up and I didnt know the song, so .... Here I am!

  • Klaine brought me here.

  • powerful backup singers

  • Hey Kurt Hummel. Don't Leave me this way.

    signed... Dave Karofsky

  • I came here because of Glee!!

  • @ilovemeryl the same :)

  • @ilovemeryl now all you young kids realize the great music your missing these days!!! That lady gaga crap is a bunch of CRAP compared to the hits of the 70's.... she's an idiot who is rich cuz of stupid teenagers who have no taste!!! SAD

  • @stevietire71

    1. I'm not a young kid.

    2. I only listen to mainly music from the 50's and 60's because it's my favorite era.

    3. I am a huge Lady Gaga fan.I think she has more talent, imagination, and creativity than any other artist of today or many artists from any time period.Too bad people go by her appearance and don't take time to actually sit and listen to the lyrics of her songs or the messages she sends out to the world, because if they did, maybe there would be less hate and more love.

  • @ilovemeryl Agreed. Couldnt have said it better myself :]

  • @ilovemeryl no bueno

  • Comment removed

  • @ilovemeryl you heard of this song through Glee? how insulting to disco music

  • @winstondog1000

Where in my sentence did I say I heard this song through Glee? I said I came to this song because I had just heard it on Glee. I first heard this song when I was a little girl, and I listen to disco all the time, so I promise, I'm not insulting Disco music in any way.

  • @ilovemeryl Wow, you must have a really horrible life then.

  • @Whalelaydee

No, actually my life is quite good, thanks :)

  • @ilovemeryl I came here because of this Bass line........

  • love it, love lt. can't touch this today. No one sing like this today. A Diva by herself!!

  • Way better than the Communards version....

  • At the garden festival in Croatia last year, on the Crazy P boat party. This song came on and everyone went nuts. Fucking brilliant.

  • this tune was in a 1977 movie called Looking for Mr. Goodbar , and has a very sad ending .

  • Whoever is popping that bass guitar is entering a new level of bassistry. Damn!

  • @JohnnyCxviii You're d*mn right....!

  • i love this song:)

  • Been left this way a couple of times...changed me forever....can't ever really trust anyone.

  • Awesome

  • Damn good song.

  • Favorite disco / soul song of all time.

  • I couldn't remember the name of this song and then I got into the car and it was on the radio. So excited!

  • @Moneymakingpants1 communards - don't leave me this way- listen it singed by berry white, it's ...amazing!

  • @MrCinghialotto Gotta love Barry White!

  • This song was so popular in it's day. The beginning of Disco really taking off and becoming a phenomenon. The dance floor was packed when this played.

  • Great song. Thanks for posting.

  • I came here because of Benidorm!

  • Please listen to Los Chikos Del Maiz - Confesiones

  • Gorgeous song. Her voice, the music, it's magic. Always beautiful to hear.

  • Possibly the best disco record ever. Works just as well as a soul song. Thelma took this to #1 on the US Pop Chart for 3 weeks in 1977. Still holds up after over 30 years.

  • @nycdude999 I hear ya bro. Thelma rocked and this is a GREAT disco-soul tune. Always LOVED it!

  • i love this song!:D check out my cover of this, visit my channel:D

  • and through her, was spawned the great whitney houston! imagine, all this from talent from a little gospel singer! :)

  • Rupauls drag race sent me here :)

  • Drop Dead Diva brought me here :D

  • @gymmybears123 the same lol

  • Such a nice funky bassline!

  • Great song!

  • Moulin Rouge <3

  • WOW!!!!

  • All time favorite...

  • Tune!!

  • every wellknown version of this song has been incredible in its own way

  • @jobuck87 I just did the same thing.... haha!

  • Had to come listen to it...it was just on Drop Dead Diva...

  • @jobuck87 me too! lol

  • @jobuck87 Haha I like that version better! I wanna know where I can find it though.

  • @jobuck87 Me too lol

  • I had totally mistaken this as Diana Ross & The Supremes. I feel like a dumbass, considering the fact I grew up with this song along with all the other folk, funk, disco, soul, surfer-rock, swamp-rock, and acid rock from the '60s and '70s that I grew up with. Yes, my parents were hippies. I don't know why I thought it was Diana Ross. I guess that ole soft Motown voice fooled me. Either way, great song. Makes me thing of the soldiers in Vietnam, even though it was released in '77.

  • In my useless opinion, this is the most underrate song of 70's, may be in the history of pop music. This song was WAY before its time, and will continue to stand the test of time.

  • @kptrojans I know right. The reason I love the disco/funk/soul of the '70s is all due the fact that it really was just a continuum of the '60s (my favorite decade) with fresh, new songs. I could have sworn that this was recorded in the '60s. Kind of like how Burning Love by Elvis Presley sounded like it was made in the '50s when it really was released in 1972.

  • Thanks for the bumper music MR. ART BELL !

  • you should check out the dance to Let It Be Me to this song with Mark Swayze it's amazing

  • Why in your wildest imagination would you dislike this song. I'm a 36 year old white man and I get 100% emotionally involved in this song.... Timeless, funky, and helps me to flash my life before my eyes.

  • 6 people have been left this way.

  • @MrsPoodle78 I tried voitng up but couldn't so a reply to your comment, MRs Poodle. ha ha

  • 6 people and Burtowski07 don't care what way you leave 'em,by the way ,Velvet2Rose I dig Gospel too!

  • @sladest72 Thanks, I enjoyed this song as a disco hit, but then I thought about the movie sister act and felt it would be a great gospel hit.

  • Change a few of the lyrics and this will be a great Gospel song! "Don't leave me this way I can't survive I can't stay alive without your love" now come on down and do what you you gotta do, you've started this fire down in my soul. Believe in me, only your love can set me free, I'm at your comand..... Imagine it a gospel chior blowing up this song.

  • @Velvet2Rose fuck gospel

  • @Burtowski07 Repeat that on judgment day sweeti

  • @Velvet2Rose Bring it on, i will be relaxing in hell with Satan

  • @Velvet2Rose Happy Rapture Day! :)

  • @Burtowski07 Don't get it twisted! Yes I believe in God but I'm not a saint. I made a comment about a song I used to enjoy and the lyrics and now you're talking shit. Careful little girl, your life can't be that boring that you're still thinking of me........smooches

  • THIS IS A WONDERFUL SONG.

    SOPHIE FROM PARIS.

  • The fast parts of this song are awesome. Unfortunately, the slow parts of this song detract from its greatness. All in all, this is a magnificent song!

  • The fast parts of this song are awesome. Unfortunately, the slow parts of this song detract from its greatness. All in all, this is a magnificent song!

  • @musick321 Your comment made ME realize that it was okay to use this song as an excuse to buy a bass :)

  • Love the original from Harold ATBN but this is outstanding. The copy is allmost better than the original.

  • the sound is awesome Thanx Thelma for this classic masterpiece that will be enjoyed forever

  • Great song by a great songstress during a great era of music! Brings back many wonderful memories. Sure makes me want to hit the dance floor again!

  • Love both versions of this song. Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes did a excellent version in their own way in 1975. And Thelma Houston did an excellent version in her own way in 1976 released in March 1977 peaked #1 on the U.S. Hot 100 Billboard on April 23rd 1977

  • I used to mix this version with Harold Melvins in the clubs back in the day and turned it into a 10 minute track. It went down a storm.Dancefloor was jam packed from start to finish.

    A true disco classic.

  • A real disco classic.Bring back these tracks. They wipe the floor with the shit thats out there now.

  • One of the all-time greatest disco songs to ever hit the airwaves! Even if you hated disco you still had to LOVE this song!

  • I'm not much of a disco fanatic at all but this song is pure heaven.

Best disco song in my book.

  • @Sawlake and timmchap35: That is part true, but i feel what frank02111 is saying too....it's not just because we got older but it is also because music today is demonic and stupid and too sexual, they go too far today. The standards of music have been dropped. Also i noticed that the avg artist today sounds like crap when you go to see them live. Today's music is satanic to me and that has nothing to do with getting older. I have been able to identify with every era of music but this one.

  • In my opinion, this is one of the best songs of the Disco era! I remember that it was featured on the movie "Looking For Mr. Goodbar". Thelma Houston delivered the goods on this song!!

  • Who plays bass on this track?

  • @TheRealMandark2000: James Jamerson played bass on this track :]

  • 2 deaf people that don't know true music?

  • 1:41 where her voice cracks is so HOT! Love 1:10 too. She sings this on the PBS special of a few yrs. ago with Freda Payne, Mary Wilson, Aretha.

Freda is way Hot, Thelma just plain rocks it out!

  • @1:10 i crank this shit up in my mustang's 500watt stereo

  • Disco were they best days of my life!!!!!! Studio 54!

  • The disco duo, Baccara, made a copycat song based on 'Don't leave', called 'Yes, sir, I can boogie.' Thelma's song was Billboard's 460th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless! Hugs to you, sister Thelma!

  • I grew up on post punk and new wave, wasnt raised to be a big fan of disco, but this is without a doubt one of the best songs of all time.

  • Clubs were alot less full of themselves then. Nowadays the pretension factor is throuyght the roof.

  • Look Thelma Houston can sing...but I DO NOT believe she should of beat Natalie Cole "Our Love" for best female r&b vocal performance. people got caught up int he disco tunes. Natalie destroyed that song..and it was raw. this is highway robbery.

  • FIRST HEARD THIS WHILST LIVING OUT IN AUSTRALIA (WAS A TOP 10 HIT OUT THERE) WHILST WRITING TO ONE OF MY FRIENDS IN THE U.K. ABOUT HOW MUCH I LIKED THIS SONG. SHE PREFERRED THE HAROLD MELVIN VERSION (DONT THINK IT WAS RELEASED IN AUSTRALIA.) ALSO LIKED THE COMMUNARDS VERSION (WHICH WAS NO.1 OVER HERE SOME 10 YEARS LATER.) A GREATDISCO DANCING SONG.

  • Lov this song! Heard it in my car made me wanna go dancing!

  • Thelma gave this song life; the Communards butchered it.

  • 80 years. who was part never will forget… reinaldo santana são paulo brazil

  • love that bass line....wonderful!!!

  • @DisabledVet2006 Whew. I thought that I was the only one that appreciated the bass line. Great job by whomever.
