  • thanks you so much.

  • Do you have to draw EVERY frame?

  • @MorganDoYourThing pretty much

if you make one and duplicate it you only have to make small edits to it

  • @xxplayer482xx D'X But the stuff I want to make would take FOREVER to draw then animate frame by frame...

  • you say that you used gimp 2.0 but the title says 2.6

  • why my layers are growing up like stack? previous frames do not hide. so..

  • @atzuFUCKEDyou The background of each frame needs to be solid, so they stack on top of each other like a deck of cards. As it stands right now, the background you're seeing is on the bottom layer, and the background of each individual layer is completely transparent.

  • thank u

  • Thanks so much, this helped me a lot. My only problem is that when I'm working on my layers in Gimp they all look clear and nice but when I export my gif file the final animation comes out looking pixelated. Any idea how I can fix this?

  • @BelieveInMyDaydreams I sent you a PM with some ideas.

  • :3 u play Fallout 3?

  • Thanks dude! :3

  • can you upload it on facebook

  • Thanks dude :) Nice tutorial

  • ok im trying to make a gif with transparent BG how d i get the new frame to replace the old one and keep the background item still there?

  • @OdysseusGarapet If you already have the image made, then you can right click your background layer, and click "add alpha channel," then you can just erase the background color, and it will be transparent.

Also, when you make the image, there are advanced image properties or whatever that you can expand when you're choosing the dimensions. In there you can make it so the background is transparent rather than filled.

  • @dmanbiker will that eliminate the other frames? basicaly i have a back ground image with a kid, and i want to make the ball bounce. but it leaves a trail of previous frames' balls.

  • @OdysseusGarapet You just need to make the background image on the kid on every layer, so those stack over the ball from the previous layer.

  • @dmanbiker yeah but the ball passes over a transparent background, which is where i find my issue. But that is good advice for my other gif.

  • @OdysseusGarapet I see what you're saying now, and I honestly have no idea how to combat that. I honestly, didn't even know .gif images supported transparency :\

    Good Luck anyway, sorry :(

  • this is basically the same video tutorial i was, but also good. however i can see it when i play it on the program, but when i save it doesn't show anything? I'm sure I have done everything right :/

  • you helped me so much!! thanks you.. you tutorial so easy!

  • when i save the file, it turns into .xcf file :/ how do I save it as .gif?

  • Thank you!

  • looks like Carpenter is disturbing you.. :(

  • what IS that sound?!

  • Thanx a lot for taking your time to show how to do this. Now I will try to follow your guide and create my own gifs....

  • Omgosh you're hilarious. Great tutorial. It was really helpful!

  • haha i know you keep saying it sucks but it really helped me alot

  • thanks hihi

  • THANK YOUUU!!!! *^*

  • i made this: C:\Users\Emma\Desktop\Cry.gif

  • there isnt anything wrong with your tutorial in terms of content, so good job there.

my gripe is with how gimp handles animation. that is the most backwards shit.

  • OMG thank you so much for making this video!! It helped me out a lot :D I shall use what I learned for my future animations now, thanks to you~ >u<

And lol to the hacksaw... I thought it was somebody breathing really hard at first xD

  • lol this is a great tutorial!

not only did it actually work, it entertained me quite aswell ^^

  • ver helpful. =) i got a problem though, i can't see what i draw on the canvas. i can only see it in the thumbnails. how do i fix that? thanks

  • @twocorners There's a little icon on the layer box that looks like an eye. You need to untoggle that button, and it will make the upper layers invisible, so you can see past them.

Since we're drawing layer by layer, like a deck of cards, the first frames are piled on top of the later ones. So you have to make them invisible, or they'll block what you're doing.

  • Darn hack-saw.

    Great vid though!

  • hehe how do i upload this to youtube or something?

  • Nice background lmao..

  • Ohmygod, yeah, that doesn't sound like a hacksaw.

    Bedsprings, lolol.

  • thank you so much

  • why wont it work i did all of the steps and it just makes it a flat image

  • why won't my paint show up when i try to draw?

  • @ScourgeWillRise Make sure you're in the right layer.

  • you sound like your high or crying. good video anyway

  • so fucking usefull thanks a lot, im not being sarcastic im dead serious!

  • Thank you!

  • Wow, thanks a lot!

  • YO ! your vid is great and was helpful to me but the gif ive created doesnt move on its own, when opened it simply stays on the first image, how could i solve this ?

  • @accountnob have you saved it as .gif? you must save it as .gif so you can see it move

  • Is there a way to change all the layers' attributes at once?

  • @DUFreeperbuddy Once you finish the animation, and you're in the process of saving you can set a time value for all the frames. But you can only set one.

  • Can we have as many frames as we like? Or does it have to be four?

  • @Music503 I've made animations with hundreds.

  • What recording device are you using

  • @Carmel12343 camstudio

  • Thanks so much^^ This really helped me out :D

  • Thank you very much! :D

  • Around 3:27 he has "Ignore the hex saw" or something, making cutting wood? Not having sex.

  • this was a very good and simple explanation. thanks=)

  • ok i think people haveing sex in the backroom

  • I smiled when I say Gary's Mod.

  • Omg, this helped me out so much! And all your directions were very easy to follow.

I didn't care about the sawing as long as I could hear you - and I could [:

  • wtf is going on in the backround lol

  • When i do this and press play it shows the 1st image, then the second stacks on top of that and then the third then the 4th etc etc and the background is transparent. Help pleease

  • @newlandsman The background shouldn't be transparent, it should be opaque.

  • is there anyway to make a gif of a video? like on tumblr? i mean instead of just drawings. pleaaase answer.

  • @ellakthomas Yes, do a google search for it. I think you can just convert it directly.

  • this was really helpful thanks! xD

  • Total Annihilation!!!!! lolz

  • dude ok i want to make an animation of a cartoon dude eating a piece of sour gum and then his face and eyes lighting up coz its so sour then his head exploding, how do i do that? -_- please tell me yourself or send me to a good tut of how to

  • THX Mate

  • at 2:10 it sounded like someone getting laid XD

  • Good tutorial. You sound Canadian O:

  • Everyone , that's not breathing , someone's scrubbing the floor or something T.T

  • when I save the picture as gif and then go to my desktop to view the preview it just shows me a white picture, please help me

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Now my knowledge has increased. :3

  • ty very much mate! the only proble i have is with the playback.the first picture is still there...i mean i used 8 of my pictures and when i use playback on layers option it plays it but the first picture stays even when the second apears and in the second apears the third blah blah, what am i doing wrong? :/(i have removed the eye icon you said too. thanks in advance.all those that saying about sex..omg guys.someone is using a hacksaw and thats it.you are embarassing the uploader geez

  • @ShotokanEditor If it appears your layers are stacking up on top of each other, it's because their backgrounds are transparent rather than opaque. Imagine your animation is a deck of card, each frame is a corresponding card.

If the background is transparent, then The images under the top cards will still show through the background. So you have to make sure the background on each image is solid white or whatever color you want.

That's why I copy the 1st layer rather than making a new one.

  • OMG, THIS HELPED SOO MUCH! THANKS

  • whenever i try to play it, it shows the last frame behind the first one, so it looks like my kitty has two tails D:

  • @Muffindustries That's 'cuz your frames have transparent backgrounds. Imagine your animation is a deck of cards, each frame being a card place upon the next one. If those cards had clear backgrounds with the pictures over them, the pictures would stack up.

You have to make sure the background is opaque, that's why I copied all my frames from the background layer, so it copied the white background as well.

  • @dmanbiker i figured it out! thanks. i wanted to make it transparent. so, how you make it do that is after the (#ms) you put (replace) just to let you know. thanks for the advice.

  • OMG wdf is happenin? is someone havin sex.. @ 3:05

  • OMG wdf is happenin? is someone havin sex..

  • @46587985231 You've gotta make sure it's saved as a .gif animation.

  • @dmanbiker It is but I uploaded it to a site and it works fine, must just be my comp or something, btw thanks for the reply

  • @46587985231 It is but I uploaded it to a site and it works fine, must just be my comp or something

  • I did everything you said, but when i go to open it in windows movie maker It just shows as a picture and not a video. :(

  • Thank you! This was easy to follow and worked perfectly! Love the hacksaw noise. Made the vid interesting! At least until I heard you say what it was. LOL.

  • Nevermind...must be a windows 7 issue...works fine when I upload to a site.

  • I did everything exactly the same as you (i'm pretty sure) and after saving it and clicking the file it shows up as a white box. I've messed around with it a lot and I got to the point where frame1 would show up instead of a white box but no animations. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

  • i have a question... how do you make videos that feature your desktop? im an artist and have been trying to figure out how to do that for an extremely long time so i can feature my art on youtube... please and thank you :)

  • @MasquedRose PrintScreen Your Desktop And Paste It On The Backround And Do Your Animation!

  • @peanutfan8 Hold Shift

  • @peanutfan8 kind-of u put a dot where u want the line to start then hold shift and pull the line out from the starting position

  • i thought you were getting friendly with yourself during the whole hacksaw thing.

    thumbs up if you agree!

  • Sounds like a dog getting raiped in background o.o

  • When I go to Filter I only see up to Reset all Filters..

  • would u be able to do this with a scanned skectch and put them in the frames????

  • You have Fallout 3? Thatta boy! :D

  • this is a great tut i made a sailor moon transformation with this tnx so much !

  • thank you! :D

  • for real tho wat r u using to record this... it seems very useful... o awesome video, ive been looking for a good way to make gifs now im just gonna play around with this... but seriously wat is the recording program u used

  • I can´t do an animation with a transparent background, the layers just play above eachother. can you help me?

  • @Griz899 Make sure the background is filled in. That's why when I started the tutorial I created a background layer with an opaque, white background, then copied it over and over so the white background was there instead of the transparent checkerboard pattern.

You'll need to fill in the background layer by layer I think.

  • @dmanbiker no, I've discovered it already. I do not optimize it, then when saving.it as .gif there is one option that susbstitute the layers making each layer one frame.

    I made a simple simple simple pac-man: attitudeexplosion . deviantart . com/#/d33fua8

    sorry my bad english

  • @Griz899 When you create a layer a dialogue box appears and gives you the option to have a white background instead of transparent.

  • @Griz899

Try creating and drawing one frame at a time. When your finished a frame, you can duplicate the frame, name, and erase and draw whatever you need on that frame.

  • Comodo Firewall wanted to be the guest star :)

  • hello tell me how to line it out as needed

  • Very good tutorial. All files work. Thank you.

  • A bit of humor there with the hacksaw (?).. sounded like someone was breathing heavily.

But, I got the answers I needed, thank you!

  • Pena que não é PORTUGUES.

  • 2:10 sounds like an orgasm....

  • Thats ok, we'll probably try again to see what we did wrong. If anything it was interesting to watch.

  • This video help a bit, thanks for making it ^^

  • your voice sounds 90 % different from befores vid

  • hey, for some reaon when I was playing it all back, it said 'combined' and played all the stick men on top of each other,

  • @Rabiaax You have to make sure there are backgrounds on each slide. That's why I copy the previous layer for each corresponding frame in the video.

It's a deck of cards, so if the layer has a transparent background it will show the frame before it where there's nothing to block it off.

  • @dmanbiker

thanks for explaining it, good tutorial btw :D

  • are you high?

  • omg thank you you helped me so much !

  • Me and a friend followed the tutorial you gave and at the end after saving, when we went to preview it, it wouldn't play. Do you have any ideas as to what we might have done wrong?

  • @Howlthegreat Did you check all the right boxes, when you saved, correctly?

  • @dmanbiker We think so, We watcched the video as we tried to make one(followed along) but it still funked up.

  • @Howlthegreat The video is certainly correct, so I don't really know what your problem is.

    Sorry :(

  • @dmanbiker No when a gif anamation is correct it should animate without being opened. It should just animate sitting on your desktop. Sure this tutorial works if you open the file and press play. But that is just a template. The image should animate on its own. So what is the trick with saving that is not discussed in this video? This is not a complete tutorial.

  • @Howlthegreat i cant figure it out either. The file is useless after you leave gimp

  • thats exactly mine too

  • my god, you're breathing like an animal. XD

  • @Roxas42124 Thats what I thought it was too! xDD lmfao!

  • well at least in this tutorial im not listening to a 4 year olds voice like the last 5 vids i found while trying to learn how 2 animate...

  • Your animation is fabulous! :3 Thanks for the tutorial ^_^ Helped a lot!!

  • when i make the gif images, it plays slowly. why?

  • Great video! :D

  • Wow You Sure Was Breathing Hard O_O

  • thanks for the tutorial!! :)

  • what screen recording software do u use

  • Thanks

  • thank you for your help! you helped so much.
