Linzi did not possess Lea Salonga's once in a lifetime voice. A Phenomenal voice that has captured the most. But, definitely Linzi's a better singer than Frances Rufelle. Lea Salonga has performed not just Eponine but as Fantine as well & many roles to boot. Has performed in several countries including disney movies. Linzi's nowhere near Lea's voice & resume.
her range is higher ...but Lea is a better , I mean Lea is more natural...I find Linzi a little bit of awkward and she pronounced some words not naturally...but this is great, really..
They certainly don't make Eponines like they used to. I saw her play the role and to this day is still one of the best performances I've ever seen in Les Mis.
Pet Peeves - In the show proper, the gate is moved off stage by two stagehands right as this song begins. It bugs me that it's left there here because then it means she's singing directly outside Cosette's residence, lol. And it sort of ruins the brilliant image of her standing in the dark with only those shuttered windows glowing behind her.
Too much make-up and styled hair for a dirt-poor street wench! LOL.
@broadwaymelody33 Oh, trust me...I'm aware this wasn't a live performance (hence saying "in the show proper"). The tricked out lighting to showcase the set and the gate left behind her bugs me still because the way it is done normally is more effective. Also, those researching the original production for a high school production or regional might think this was the original set-up, but it wasn't. No biggie. Pet peeve is all.
There are many remarkable interpretations of this song, and I totally love Lea Salonga and her incredible (and beautiful) voice. But I agree with you about Linzi. She is truly amazing, and in this particular song she seems to have surpassed all the others. Thank you for posting this!!!

Lea actually said in one interview that it was Linzi Hateley's performance that inspired her to essay the role of Eponine.

I saw her perform the role in London. I like that her is a little deeper but she still sings the song in the right key.

You should hear her sing in Carrie... It might've been a flop, but she was damn amazing in that show xD

@LaMisereHQ
Well, this wasn't recorded from an actual performance, so it was probably different when she was performing lol
