went walking down the street delivering mail during the summer & this song stuck into my mind couldn't get it out. Oh well why fight it , just go with it >
@malochala Grossly under appreciated? Are you kidding me? Made Rolling Stone's top 500 albums of ALL TIME, it sold more than any other Cure album produced, and is widely, unanimously considered their best album. Under-appreciated my cock.
@ringo380 Yes, thanks, and I know all that... but what I'm talking about is across the broad spectrum of rock music it is under appreciated. Of course, Cure and any new wave/alternative/"goth"/British fans already appreciate it. There's a much bigger world out there than just Cure fans, Rolling Stone readers and anyone else who falls under the shadow of your under-appreciated little cock.
I remember distinctly moving from Kansas to Florida back in 1985, never heard of The Cure until I came across WFIT in Melbourne, FL. That's what started my fixation to The Cure. And it hasn't stopped, although I think The Cure has stopped. Hope not. Happy New Year, everyone! Let's hope for better music this year! ;D
So, who cares about genre, that should be dismissed as it's like politics when it comes to conversation. How about it is just really great music and it moved you if not for a day or a month, perhaps even a year, or even better for several decades? Genre means nothing with music. I <3 The Cure!!!
Really, the only thing "Goth" about The Cure is the hair and the makeup. The music itself is anything but goth. 25 years ago, we just referred to them as "New Wave" with a "gothy mood" is all. Their earliest music was more of a soft punk style that evolved into a dark, pop sound that was so evident in their albums from the mid-eighties on. There's always been a deeper and more dark feeling in their music. There is simply no other band on earth like The Cure. None. They are the best.
@anastasia81472 You're exactly right! I actually never heard the term "goth" in reference to The Cure until sometime in the mid 90's, and that was in a magazine article about Robert Smith. It was just New Wave music in the 80's.
Dude, why the hell does everyone argue about fucking genre. They are artists, these guys especially...just listen to the music and get out of it what you need to. Quit being little fucking pigs and fighting over stuff that makes you sound a total jackass. YEAH IM TALKING ABOUT YOU @MRAustyn88. Stop being so gay...
@MrAustyn88 Agreed, although I wasn't specifically referring to him. I have friends that are goth and they're some of the raddest people. That's basically what I was trying to say.
@TheMightehMosh Ah. Ya I know what you mean. I dont ever get to meet goth people, I live in Pheonix AZ, everyones either a hipster or HARDCORE preps, so my life is stripped of people who have souls. But anyway ya GO ROBERT SMITH
@MrAustyn88 It's funny how they're always pigeonholed as Goth when their style was more Darkwave than Goth, in my opinion (though, with strong Goth undertones). Their early stuff was mostly Post-Punk, and their middle stuff was a mixture of New Wave (Close to me, everything on Japanese Whispers except "Lovecats", etc). I think he prefers to say it's his style because his style is kind of all over the place.
The only thing I'm gonna whine about about is that they cut off the bass part at the very beginning. On the cd it has it from the very first touch of a string. Fucking magnificent song no matter what though...
I can't fucking believe that this video has only 73,796 hits and that there are two soulless fuckers that doesn't like it! WTF is wrong with this world God, please tell me why?????????
Yes....the song is great...the video is what it should be...it doesn't need smoke and mirrors to make the song...the song makes the video...just sayin'.....:)
I just found out about this great song. and I tell ya with some great sub's playin in a kewl old 80's car, you really feel that you are back in the era of just good fun!!!
@L33TSP34KL0L im sure you do my friend....but then...where would...you..be as you look into that mirror..and she would love for you to look like...........................

@webster670 What do you mean original version? I admit I didn't watch all of this post, but what I saw was the original. Or at least the only release of a video I've ever seen. I thought I'd seen most of their videos and bootlegs too, used to collect...
@SisterOfKarn The original version of this video was from the exact same shoot, but the images weren't layered. There weren't multiple shots on top of each other. It used some different footage and I think it was much better. Robert didn't like it and had Tim Pope go back and make this version. It's a shame the original isn't around. The video originally ended with this long shot of Porl. It was cool.
@webster670 Sorry for extreme delayed reply, RL... >_<
You know, come to think of it I think I do know what you're talking about... It's been so long since I listened to anything from this era. I think it was released once on an old VHS or something, or maybe I bootlegged it. I should go back through my ancient tapes and see if they work. If I find it and if I can dub and extract it, I'll upload it. Sorry Bob. =)
@SisterOfKarn Unfortunately, the original was never released on video. Or at least not one that I know of. I know Robert doesn't even like the second version. I know that his idea was for the video to be a Dr.Who kind of thing. Which explains the telephone booth. Unfortunately, they didn't really have the budget or time to go all out with it, but the original version is still one of my favorite videos.
@webster670 It was. =) I have a copy, just uploaded, will PM you the link. Don't want to piss off some of my fav musicians ever, so I've made it private.
Apparently, it was also available to ppl in UK & Europe @ their VEVO acct, but I haven't checked via proxy to see if it's still there.

To all those who don't mind reading about a lot of sex (male on male sex, mind you) read "Lost Souls" by Poppy Z. Brite. It has a lot of Cure references, and vampire stuff, if you're into that. It was a sort-of life changing book when I was 15, however I read it before I knew about the Cure bits in it, so I was doubly surprised and pleased. It can be kind of weird and gross at times, though, just a warning.

this is real music, not like rapers of today, at least the rap back then was more groovy, in my opinion, the cure, the smiths, duran duran, etc all those bands and singers are real music, not like justin beiber! ewwww! thank god for real rock music!
@chica1yeye - I've always felt it was about playing live in front of tens of thousands of people, and what that feels like. or it could be about a couple getting ready to go out dancing.
Bands like Evanessence and such really need to bow down and thank this band. i'm suprissed that no one is really listing to the cure and only to these wannabes of today. I mean if no one hasn't noticed the only reason evanessence is famos is because her music gets played on youtube alot with fan made videos.
This song is so fucking MENACING. I love it! Does anybody have the original version of this video? It was around youtube for a little while. If you haven't seen it, it's from this exact same shoot, but there are a lot of different shots used and the images aren't piled on top of each other. I much prefer that version. I heard that Robert thought it was boring and had Tim Pope change it. I just wish they would release that version on dvd. I could watch it over and over.
@glyph68 Prayers For Rain is too. It has that same menacing, sinister feel. So is The Kiss, and a lot of songs on Pornography and...many more. I could go on and on. :)
The Disintegration album is what made me fall in love with The Cure to begin with and it has been a long love affair with this beautiful and passionate band!! The Cure has and will always be a treasure to the music world. Love this band!! The Cure!! :) ♥♫
This song is just so amazing!! I love the dark and haunting feel it gives your soul!! I can get lost in the deepness of this awesome song!! The Cure are truly awesome and amazing!! Always loved them, always will!! The Cure forever and always!! :) ♥
@XxKINGxASSASSINxX as always. =D Listen to some of the liver versions of A Forest, or anything else from Seventeen Seconds or Pornography. Some of the best bass lines out there! ^_^ Simon is amazing!
My sister thinks this is "a boring, weird, whiny song." All she listens to is rap and pop from some of the worst artists ever. She even has a Bieber song! She (and all those other cheap pop fans) needs to understand that the Cure is real, true music and that rap is crap without a C and pop is poop with one O.
@rfan yeah seriously. Music is about feeling and meaning in the music as well as sounding good. Not the quick buck that those record companies push to make with shitty catchy meaningless tunes.
@CherryBomb50 omg yes dude! i totally hear ya, so talented they are, I love their unique dreamy type of feel guitar riffs, I want to do some drum covers of them soon =D
@CherryBomb50 You know, I hate people like this. It's not that she doesn't like it, it's she isn't educated into different styles. I am 12 and at the moment I am branching off from what I normally listening to and training my brain into old quality music. The new stuff is a copy of what used to be. What used to be was pure, new, special, and unique.
...and then he licked his lips near the end.

@webster670 It is menacing, isn't it. Well said.
glyph68 10 months ago
@glyph68 Prayers For Rain is too. It has that same menacing, sinister feel. So is The Kiss, and a lot of songs on Pornography and...many more. I could go on and on. :)

i adore how his lipstick isn't quite on right. When I was a kid that mesmerized me!!!! Their best song, in my eyes....

Somebody request to harmonix to put this on rock band 3 and where you can play it on the pro guitars.

CherryBomb50 1 year ago 54
@CherryBomb50
Agree. Today's so called "artists" such as Laday Ga Ga or Bieger alike are so tasteless compare to what bands like The Cure has offered.
rfan 1 year ago 24
@rfan yeah seriously. Music is about feeling and meaning in the music as well as sounding good. Not the quick buck that those record companies push to make with shitty catchy meaningless tunes.
