if i have a lot of questions to Marshall Harrison, how can i reach him? i would even pay money for that. don`t want necessarily lessons (dont have webcam or so) but if this is the only possibilty, okay then. please let me know Mr. Harrison.
You perform one of the most tasty shreding-solos I have ever heard here. I really like the Moto Perpetuo aproach and the way you let the fast passages "breath" and manage not to fall inte the trap that many shreders have been caught in: Playing 16th triplets in 1 minute constantly without any variation in speed or dynamics.
your finger shakes alot while playing but do you use hybrid picking or is it just your finger shaking i just started hybrid picking and if you are using that technique dam your clean with it i can do it but i just get random background noise everynow and then its annoying lol
I don't know if he is using hybrid picking, economy picking, or a combination of the two, but the fluidity of those passages is breathtaking. Beautifully rounded tone and great sense of dimension. Lots of fun!
nice shit !! have checked out harrison marshall's shred ideas and is totally crazy !! tell me how can i get his instructional DVD? on his jazz legato ideas?
It's for intonation reasons I believe, but I'm not quite sure, you should check out Conklin's website, they should have some more information on it :)
havnt red any official luthier reasons for a zero fret, but i think a) to make the open string sound/feel fuller like all the other frets b) you can get the lowest possible action c)you dont have to worry about nutwear
intonation wouldnt be any different, infact it would be less accurate (cause of the zero fret shape compared to the crisp non-contour edge of the nut) but its miniscule compared to a regular nut, and it doesnt matter anyway; intonation really does only come from the hands
Yeah, I played for CC at the Peavey Booth (NAMM '99) (James Kottak then of Black Sheep now from Scorpions was a peavey endorser). Black Sheep did a few songs. I missed playing for Eddie Van Halen by like 5 minutes, btw.
The I kept running into CC around LA like at Eric's Guitar Repairs and House of BLues etc....
Even weirder was the time I hung out with Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead at their rehearsal space, we discussed WWII while he played pinball.
Its instantly recogniseable as such however - creating the "sheets of sound" we hear from players like Marshal, or Shawn Lane, or Rusty are miles ahead of the "playing quickly because I have no musical identity" style that you're referring to :)
I've been listening to Marshal since his early website with a quote from CC Deville on his front page (2002 ish?) and he continually blows my mind in the same way that Shawn did - wonderful players.
I like the sheets of sound created by moto perpetuo playing. Don't listen to the individual notes just absorb the big sound waves. Besides not too many players do it, so it kind of sets you apart if you do play "moto perpetuo" style.
thanks got sidetracked with all of the petroleum engineering stuff. That paycheck was nice but I have to focus on developing my modest gifts to the max. It finally dawned on me late last year after a whole year of rumination: why do something you are average at when you can do something everyday that you are pretty good.
No not doing the petroleum eng stuff anymore. I keep up to date on some of the latest frac strategies just as a hobby but I'm really going to give the music thing my all.
Good for you, dude. Doing it full-time myself, I can tell you that the artistic outlet and sense of identity more than makes up for the money that may or may not be there (at least for me). Looking forward to more of your material.
amazing technique. Lacks creativity in my oppinion

You seem to use entirely wrist for your picking technique. Did you build up speed while consciously paying attention to this while you were younger?
ArcaneLifeforce666 2 years ago
He probably did since that is the "best" method of picking.
