@desglacons - Thanks. Glad you enjoyed my video. It's hard to believe it has been two years since it happened. I remember it like it was yesterday, you know. It was definitely my highlight of the Olympics.
i have never seen a more courageous and inspiring performance before in my life. considering she even got out there and competed is absolutely amazing, and then to give a near-perfect performance is outstanding, memorable, and like i said, extremely courageous
@96horseluvr - It's pretty amazing she was able to concentrate on doing the jumps when for most people their mind would be on something else. Her mother would have been proud.
@musicplayersk8er - It certainly was inspirational. This was the highlight of the Olympics for me. I still remember it like it was yesterday. The noise inside the Pacific Coliseum was deafening. Glad you enjoyed my video. Thanks.
@5XWCWCHAMPION This will be remembered more than winning the prize. Being in the Olympics, and battling through different struggles and staying strong is what a champion is. Doesn't matter what medal we win now. It's what we do that's important. She's one of those skaters that showed what defines a champion.
she has such an incredible story on the ice that night, pure feeling, it was gorgeous. as an athlete, i am so moved and impressed at the way she was able to not only pull herself together when no one would have blamed her for withdrawing, but to throw everything down on the table and do it for someone she loved dearly. we were all with her in spirit that night!
on an unrelated note, whoever took this video, i'm so glad we can see from up in the stands-- we can see the tracings for once, yay! :-)
@Mbookfreak - The video belongs to me as you can see my username (5XWCWCHAMPION) on the bottom left hand corner of the video screen. I actually prefer taking photos but was sitting too far away to do that so I just shot video instead. Glad you enjoyed my video.
Wow Wow Wow, Her complete olympic performance was so incredibly moving. I don't think I was ever touched in such a way by an athlete. Her pirouettes are very very beautiful, so elegant and graceful. She deserved that medal more than anyone and her mom would be very proud.
She's a first rate skater. Had she competed in previous competitions it's very conceivable that she would have won, hands down. Unfortunately for her and the rest of the skaters, kim yuna added a new dimension that made it virtually impossible to win. Kim yuna has such extraordinary grace and jumping skills were basically unbeatable. Joannie deserved to win for making heroic effort to perform despite the tragic loss of her mother just before the event. My deepest condolences to her.
@jordandodds1 - Okay, I'll give you that. True, her jumps aren't huge but she can land all the difficult ones including the triple lutz very consistently. Her artistic marks are always deservedly high.
Joannie admitted that her mind was elsewhere during this program. Maybe that’s why it’s so passionate. Precisely because she could not overthink it, it was pure FEELING, pure ART. The jumps were beautiful, but I love how expressive everything else was. Unbelievably amazing performance!
@kmbmiddlechild - Yeah. It sure makes you feel good just watching that performance. I'll bet it inspired a lot of young girls to try and become the next Joannie Rochette. She is a great skater and a great role model.
joannie had faith and courage to perform after her mother was died a day before her performance her mother was always in the crowd watching her :) makes me cry like if your mother died before you did something important
@JerseyShoreRocks194 - You know, I totally agree. Performing in the Olympics is pressure enough but having to do so under such personal tragedy is almost beyond human. It was really heartwarming to see her come through triumphantly. It's the best memory I have of the Winter Olympics in my backyard. Thanks for commenting on my video.
I'm not sure exactly I'm not very close to her, but my grandpa talks to her all the time, I think we are third cousins ha. But either way I know anyone who knows her is way proud of her, she does an amazing job.
@Styx144 - Can you do a triple lutz, too? No, just kidding. That's interesting. Joannie comes back to Vancouver next week as part of Stars on Ice and I can't wait to see her again.
I watch her every time she is in a competition, never in person but I want too! ha. And I wish I could do a triple lutz... I love to ice skate but unlike her I am horrible at it lol.
THanks so much for adding this 5x. I am a New Jersey'an and was routing for her and yes I tear up / get choked up every time I see her 2 performances from there.
I am going to Montreal soon, I hope I bump into her.
:)
Like someone already typed, she did not only make her country proud, but everyone with a soul watching.
@Echdrum - Thanks for complimenting my video. This past Friday was the one-year anniversairy of her Olympic bronze medal performance and I remember it like it was yesterday. It went beyond sports into a human interest story that was so uplifting, whether you were a Canadian or not. Best wishes while in Montreal.
OMG!!! I remember that! So hard NOT to tear up! I lost my mom over a year ago, but, Thank God, I didn't have to compete at the OLYMPICS???!! She did her (our) country SO PROUD!!
@ralphyization - Sorry to hear about your mom, guy. Joannie Rochette was just named by Canadian Press as the Canadian female athlete of the year. Considering what she had to go through at the Olympics as you wrote, I'd say she is a most deserved winner.
Not only did Joannie made her mom proud, but her country, and made the world BELIEVE.....she will be a hero and inspirations to all figure skaters in the future.
@SlurpeeTigger - Well said. It's Christmas time now and Joannie Rochette brought as much inspiration to me as when I first watched the movie "It's A Wonderful Life". However, that movie was fiction. Joannie's story is very real. If Clarence the angel was watching James Stewart in the movie, then somebody upstairs was watching Joannie in Vancouver. Perhaps her mother.
Not since Michelle Kwan has a skater ever moved me to tears. She represented what the spirit of Olympics is all about: overcoming adversity and hardships and giving the performance of your life under these difficult circumstances. Honestly one of the most memorable moments in figure skating history.
@mariahfan444 - I totally agree. I cannot imagine having to perform at the biggest spotlight in the world under such tragic circumstances. When she succeeded, I can only describe it as being so emotionally uplifting beyond epic proportions. I am so thankful I was there in person to witness it and I am glad I can share my experience with everyone in the YouTube community.
@5XWCWCHAMPION You';re lucky you were there! But, knowing what she was going through, OMG! What a consummate professional, she must be! She was probably on "auto-pilot"... from all the training! Congratulations!!!
@ralphyization - For me, that was the highlight of The Winter Olympics. Today, February 12, 2011 is the one year anniverairy of those Games and I still remember that skate like it was yesterday. It's great she could turn her own tragedy into making other people feel better.
@5XWCWCHAMPION It did make me cry, pretty much through her whole skate! I lost my mom, though she was much older than her mom, still.... OMG! All I still feel to this day, is admiration! Just for her to compete! , Never mind win bronze!!! Phenomenal!
Amazing how you can feel the tension lifted when she finished and you could feel all of her emotions even in the audience, not even being able to see that close-up of her face...it's so overwhelming. Thank you for sharing, this was truly a performance that her mom would be proud of
@pandatours - It's my pleasure to share this video. Everybody in the building, no matter what country they were from, genuinely wanted Joannie to do well and were emotionally uplifted beyond ecstatic when she did. It's been about eight months since and I still remember it like it happened yesterday. In fact, I'll probably remember it forever.
@ToppGiRrlLzzZ Thanks for your comment in English. I wish I could speak French because most people from Quebec can speak English, like Joannie Rochette. Merci!
@JinheumPark The double axel was her last jump in the short program. Once she landed it perfectly, I just knew her performance would have no mistakes and be great.
Vos yeule x) vous autre vous parlez dla qualité de limage pis dans ste vidéo est au jeux olympique pi a fait une super performance même si sa mère est décéder
So far this Winter Olympics is the most memorable....EVERY figure skater did extremely well and competed like true athletes....in my heart all of them are champions and gold medalists. WooHoo for Joannie!
@KEBokeh You are right. For me, the women's short program was most incredible because the top 12 or 13 all skated cleanly. They got the marks they deserved and not because somebody else crashed. There were so many standing ovations one after another with Joannie's the biggest.
@tameshachilds I took this video only because I was too far away to take photos. Looking back, I am glad I was judging by the number of YouTube hits. I also get a good feeling everytime I see this.
