awesome video bryden!,.. love the aileron roll goin vertical!,.. that to me is pure power and pure freedom!,.. thank you for sharing! hornets forever!
Great video! Feels like you are in the A/C! Quick ?, during my aerobatic training, I was told to tighten my upper body and grunt something to sound like the word "Hook" when performing higher G maneuvers. Did the team ever use that considering there are no G-suits?
i live in pensacola florida and i am so madly in love with the blue angels. I have seen alot of people get rides in the blue angel how in the hell do get a chance to do it. I would so love to fly up in one its one of my dreams just to say i flew in one not just seen them do there shows. is there anyone out there that can help me on that issue please.
These guys rock , just trying to stay concious at 6 G's is hard enough and this guy turns to look at his wingman during the high G turn like it'is nothing , frikkin awesome !
you end up dead killing your wingman from a mid air collision. but that will never happen from a blackout with the blue angles since they get tested every so often to see how they handle the G load. the max the solo's do for G load is 7.4-7.5 G's.
I can tell you from first hand experience that I did not black out in that maneuver. I was fortunate enough that I did not black out or GLOC the two years I was flying on the Team. Unfortunately that's what 7.5 g's does to your face and body.
Which of you guys are the ones that buzz the crowd from behind when the their attention is on the diamond formation?I've always been a sucker for that,LOL
that would be #6 i believe. same with the thunder bird #6. during the trail to diamond loop, t-bird number 6 comes roaring past the crowd low and fast for the tactical surprise. during that time, the P.A. system plays Thunderstruck by AC/DC.
A soyuz crew experienced 22g when their launch had to be aborted shortly before reaching orbit, because of a failed staging (the empty stage was still attached to the active stage, dragging the rocket from course). That's the fucking shit.
He didnt black out, but he was very close to it. He went into a really sharp, probably 7+ G turn. This guy is an outstanding pilot.. I would be in the ocean after that turn!!
thats too bad, i wish the blues still performed the tuckaway cross. I remember in 2000, the solo pilots performed an opposing dive maneuver, and then stopped doing it. do you remember what that maneuver was called or why they stopped performing it? I think Scott Ind was the lead solo at the time. I wish I could see footage of that maneuver, it was too cool!
The Tuckaway Cross was removed from the demonstration because it was considered "energy directed at the crowd" and the FAA does not want to have any aircraft have an accident within the confines of the crowd. The FAA is the approving authority for the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds demonstrations as well as the individual service Admiral and General who are over the team in the chain of command. Thanks for asking....
Ghost, the Team no longer does the Tuckaway Cross pointed at the crowd head on. The solos still fly the Opposing Minimum Radius turn but they do the cross pointed away from the crowd in front. I was the Lead solo the year the FAA started discussing this maneuver being removed from the demo.
how do i know your utah? Utah is one of my favorite pilots but there are many ways to access the information about the blues and there manuvers. anyway sorry i miss read the discrption.
Pardon perhaps a silly question, but in the description of this video, "...a maneuver no longer allowed by the FAA.." caught my attention. How does the FAA have "jurisdiction" over a military flight, especially if the show is over a military airfield?
Yeat another AWESOME video, by the way. Thanks for posting it.
by the way.....did not black out!

I saw The Blue Angels over the July 4 weekend and they did the tuckaway cross.... why does the info say the FAA doesn't allow it?
ahrimanes 2 years ago
Because the maneuver puts the crowd in harms way, if one of them were to go down or collide. You didn't see the tuckaway across.
csczdust 2 years ago
You're right, it was the opposing minimum radius turn that I saw.
ahrimanes 2 years ago
they were here in toronto at the end of august. i'm pretty sure they did a tuckaway cross going away from the crowd.

"Dino" Thompson was on the team from 92-94, then came back in 95. He was not on the 96 team.
