@minunandplusle123 ¬_¬ you dont know nothing about the spirit and your soul? the human body is just a recipient and the world is an illusion. Sorry for my english, soy latino ._.
@justinecunanan It's always a pleasure helping others to understand how the strokes lyrics are awesome, weather it is the nonsense ones or the meaninful ones like IOTW.
@justinecunanan Yes, it really sounds like that. He doesn't finnish to say "Ize" and that has a meaning. The fact that the song is called "ize of the world" is not random. It's up for the listeners to make their own interpretations.
The first time I heard the solo, I couldn't figure out what the fuck it was. I still can't! and it's been 5 years listening to it almost daily. The verse chord progression is much like Weezer's "Island in the Sun", weird eh?
@FLaiR791 It's more than just that. Notice that in the end he says "Cities to vapori..." and he doesn't end to say "ize". Ize could represent censorship
@coisinhasbanais Good point... I never thought of it like that.. And I think that this whole album is the point where they were absolutely flawless. And I've been getting into this song more and more, that I want to play it on drums, but damn, that Fabrizio is too good..
@FLaiR791 To quote another dude/dudette who commented here awhile ago: "This song it's about not being free. "Ize" represents here censorship, because he doesn't finish to say "vaporize", he only says "vapor" and the song ends abruptly. Genious. This world is ruled by corporate sons of bitches who don't care about our freedom and well being, they only care about greed. There is no room for philosophy." I couldn't agree more.
@coisinhasbanais I've always taken the word vaporize being cut off to mean that those weapons struck home and destroyed everything. The city, human life was extinguished before he could finish the word. Any interpretation is "correct" as long as it makes one think about the world and our place in it.
@rystrel That's also an excellent interpretation. It kinda makes the song have its own scenary, as if it was a sci-fi movie, it's awesome. Actually the alternative video to YOLO would make an excellent video to IOTW.
when i first heard this song the only words i understood were "i think i know what you mean but watch what you say" and the rest was gibberish but i loved it!!
I love this song and The Strokes but I'm actually really pissed off that most of these songs arent avaliable on mobile. Do you think you could put your videos on mobile too please? Thanks.
@kateroonistudios The third P that you heard is actually 'Be.' Which is the starting word of the next line: Be to see such power in our hands all wasted on greed... which is the second half of the question " How disappointed would (they) be to see such power in our hands all wasted on greed?" Hope this helps. Cheers.
I don't see why so many people think that First Impressions of Earth was the Strokes weakest album when songs like this, Razorblade and You Only Live Once are on it.
@secretaccountyay Personally, this is my favorite album by the Strokes. There's so much emotion and thought put into these songs, I think through his slurred, drunken, bitter words is genius and soul.
@Reardenlife1957 As a matter of fact , I've been told that's it's an heresy and almost a crime to say "weak album" and " The Strokes" in the same sentence.
@Reardenlife1957 I used to think that too because I loved the first 2 albums & then I loved "Angles" but I now I listen to this record everyday & I fuckin' love it
I just recently saw a song "Boombox" by the Lonely Island. I looked up Julian Casablancas because he was an awesome singer, and then I found out that he's the lead singer of one of my favorite fucking bands, The Strokes.
i always wondered why it ends so abruptly , i often wondered if i had a bad copy of the disc or something, never knew it was intentional...then again i only got into the strokes about 2 moths ago....
This song is so powerful and no matter how you interpret it it will still impact you. The chorus is just so fucking brilliant. Love every second of this song.
@cocochanell7 Yeah man usaully I only like a few songs from a single band... But with the Strokes I love every song, and I just started really listening to them tonight.
i love how its called IZE of the world and its definitley deep if you hear it and i love how julian goes nuts on "in the dusk(or dust not sure) of all your lies" he has such a great true rock n rolla voice
to the person who clicked dislike, how and WHY? this song is about your existence and what it means. did you commit suicide after clicking? when you can't handle it anymore, that's the only way to go..
"ize" could have to do with all of the steps one goes thriugh every day. "a desk to organize"; "Movie stars to idolize" the things that someone is always doing. but at the end when the song ends before he can say "ize" after vapor, its almost like hes breaking free from all of the things hes stuck with or the movement that are expected
It has always amazed me that the Strokes are not more popular then they are. They truly are one of the best bands that has been around in a very long time.

This song it's about not being free. "Ize" represents here censorship, because he doesn't finish to say "vaporize", he only says "vapor" and the song ends abruptly. Genious. This world is ruled by corporate sons of bitches who don't care about our freedom and well being, they only care about greed. There is no room for philosophy.
whatup2512 1 year ago 215
@whatup2512 Or it could be seen in another way. The lyrics obviously are the best he has every written. But maybe "ize" here could also be "eyes of the world" or at least that's one Idea I got...eyes or the world/ ize of the world.
