  • try 'a dream a nightmare' by Red House Glory if you're into lyrics with social commentary / good tunes

  • to bad this is the world we live in

  • @minunandplusle123 ¬_¬ you dont know nothing about the spirit and your soul? the human body is just a recipient and the world is an illusion. Sorry for my english, soy latino ._.

  • the guitar is epic.

  • This song is pure gold

  • Philip Brophy is a pumped up piece of shit.

  • The Strokes brought me here, not FIF... Oh wait, is this song on a FIFA game?

  • @coisinhasbanais @C454BL4NC45 Oh, okay. Thanks for telling me. :)

  • @justinecunanan It's always a pleasure helping others to understand how the strokes lyrics are awesome, weather it is the nonsense ones or the meaninful ones like IOTW.

  • Does the ending really sound like that? It sounded like it was cut off. Either way, it was a really awesome song. I kept listening to it for hours.

  • @justinecunanan Yeah the "cut-off" effect is deliberate. They do it live also.

  • @justinecunanan Yes, it really sounds like that. He doesn't finnish to say "Ize" and that has a meaning. The fact that the song is called "ize of the world" is not random. It's up for the listeners to make their own interpretations.

  • Reminds me of Message in a Bottle for Some Reason ..

  • @dudeincognito123

It's a suffix. Not prefix. Dumb britt.

  • This song reminds me of Invader Zim for some reason

  • @AnGeeLiiCaa100 now you say that, its all the song is going to remind me of

  • A love to realize

  • "How do you wake someone up from inside a dream?" Lyrics that were clearly written before Inception! Ha ha

  • @pbandjsamich4 Haha, that also crossed my mind. Btw, weird coincidence, I just rewatched inception, like 30 seconds ago.

  • 1st time I listen to this

= :/ he repeats "ize" to much, it's kinda annoying but instrumentally it's good

2nd time= :o it's actually catchy O.O WTF! I like the lyrics!! what is he trying to say

    3rd time= ohh sh*t the lyrics are deep but koo :D -3

4th time= this is very pleasant and addictive

    5th time= :D I like this song

Years later= ^-^ I like this song xD

XD -3 the strokes -3 , nuff said!!!!!

  • blz

  • Ohh Fuckin' Shit! ♥

  • The first time I heard the solo, I couldn't figure out what the fuck it was. I still can't! and it's been 5 years listening to it almost daily. The verse chord progression is much like Weezer's "Island in the Sun", weird eh?

  • Seriously. TBH Room on Fire was better than Is this It IMO. But hey I love all their music so...

  • Incredible, not exactly an accurate summation but sure as hell a well felt one fucking awesome song

  • A countownt to a spontaneous combustion!

  • i wanna this fucking

song in my funeral when i'll die

  • Love the angry shout at FURY TO TRANQUILIZE!, fuckin amazing.

  • This song....

  • Cities to vapour- what? CITIES TO VAPOUR- ~WHAT?!

  • @DudeIncognito123 he doesn't finish saying desensitize either

  • I think it's -ise (the prefix). Wow, what insight.

  • @DudeIncognito123 And I'm British- I translated it.

  • OMG i love this song

  • Ize of the World = actions in the world, or a word play on eyes, as in, Eyes of the (contemporary) World.

  • FIOE is so underrated it's unbelievable, people are too busy comparing it to Is This It to actually listen to it.

  • @HiThereImKester If this comment isn't the most rated, I'll delete this video. Well said!

  • @HiThereImKester Hear hear!

  • The Strokes were always in my peripherals but I never really dug deep into their catalog until recently.

Just stumbled on this tune, and wow, incredible.

  • notice every last word ending with ize describes a childs life from fertilization to death

  • I just realized that every verb in the chorus ends with Ize. IT MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW!!!

  • @FLaiR791 It's more than just that. Notice that in the end he says "Cities to vapori..." and he doesn't end to say "ize". Ize could represent censorship

  • @coisinhasbanais Good point... I never thought of it like that.. And I think that this whole album is the point where they were absolutely flawless. And I've been getting into this song more and more, that I want to play it on drums, but damn, that Fabrizio is too good..

  • @FLaiR791 To quote another dude/dudette who commented here awhile ago: "This song it's about not being free. "Ize" represents here censorship, because he doesn't finish to say "vaporize", he only says "vapor" and the song ends abruptly. Genious. This world is ruled by corporate sons of bitches who don't care about our freedom and well being, they only care about greed. There is no room for philosophy." I couldn't agree more.

  • @coisinhasbanais I've always taken the word vaporize being cut off to mean that those weapons struck home and destroyed everything. The city, human life was extinguished before he could finish the word. Any interpretation is "correct" as long as it makes one think about the world and our place in it.

  • @rystrel That's also an excellent interpretation. It kinda makes the song have its own scenary, as if it was a sci-fi movie, it's awesome. Actually the alternative video to YOLO would make an excellent video to IOTW.

  • when i first heard this song the only words i understood were "i think i know what you mean but watch what you say" and the rest was gibberish but i loved it!!

  • I always thought it was "An act to finalize" and "A death to organize"

  • You're sad but cha smile...It's not in your eyes.....

  • THUMPS UP if this is your FAVORITE album!!! =DD

  • I love this song and The Strokes but I'm actually really pissed off that most of these songs arent avaliable on mobile. Do you think you could put your videos on mobile too please? Thanks.

  • @prettyraddude Done!

  • @coisinhasbanais THANKS

  • lol a body to deodorize i luv you guys :))))

  • This album was recorded between January and May 2005

Why was it released so long after.

  • 2:44 That's whats up!!

  • Happy Birthday, Julian! :)

  • i remember the first time i tried to sing this song i couldn't hold the ize but now i can =D

  • He says P three times, what does the third P mean?

  • @kateroonistudios As far as I understand, he only says P two times.

  • @coisinhasbanais My bad, the "be" afterwards sounded like a third P.

  • @coisinhasbanais It's D.I.D.I.P.P. be which stands for D.(ead) I.(dealistic) D.(esperate) I.(nventor) P.(ioneer) P.(hilosophers)

  • @TheDannyBeast Yes. I know.

  • @kateroonistudios The third P that you heard is actually 'Be.' Which is the starting word of the next line: Be to see such power in our hands all wasted on greed... which is the second half of the question " How disappointed would (they) be to see such power in our hands all wasted on greed?" Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • @kateroonistudios the third 'P' is actually "be"...how disappointed would DIDIPP be...

    :P

  • for those who don't know

    D(ead)

    I(dealistic)

    D(esprate)

    I(nventor)

    P(ioneer)

    P(hilosophers)

  • @Ale1997cbx It's in the description.

  • @coisinhasbanais yeah it is. my bad ;)

  • @ShadowDethTank

    ANGLES, baby! :)

  • @adrianyo123 no i dont think its french. just how he sounds? coisinhasbanais has put up the lyrics for it right?

  • "Cities to vapori-"

  • @LetGuy667 "EXPLOSION"

  • A wound to cauterize...

Sorry being random. Awesome song! Fave from FIOE

  • I cry when he screams

  • if there is one song i want to hear live before i die it's this. the strokes MUST play this live. like NOW.

  • They should've used this song during the last scene of the Sopranos, it would've been aweso - ...

  • the abrupt ending scared the shit out of me

  • You are an awesome dude for putting up HQ Audio The Strokes song AND providing lyrics thanks a bunch

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for explaining what D.I.D.I.P.P. means. That line bugged me for months.

  • @jayindie93 No problem.

  • If you look to the left side all the first impressions album covers look like a giant straw.

  • the end just cuts out weird choice and a shame

  • just listen this for hours.. now it my fav song (:

  • FURY TO TRANQUALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZE!

    god i love the strokes

  • "Cities to vapori-"

  • fantastic

  • One of their very best. Awesomely powerful, I just love the balance it strikes between anger and feeling of impotence to the issues he refers too.

  • damn i never read the lyrics to this song till today and now it's probably one of my faves from them, the lyrics are gold

  • In my opinion the very best song by the strokes, best lyrics, best beat and just a dam sexy fucking sound

  • I don't see why so many people think that First Impressions of Earth was the Strokes weakest album when songs like this, Razorblade and You Only Live Once are on it.

  • @Reardenlife1957 Amen good sir.

  • @Reardenlife1957 , absolutely correct

  • @Reardenlife1957 It's not that it is weak, YOLO is amazing. but track for track it just isn't as good as the first two.

Angles is amazing as well. You just can't go wrong.

  • @secretaccountyay Personally, this is my favorite album by the Strokes. There's so much emotion and thought put into these songs, I think through his slurred, drunken, bitter words is genius and soul.

  • @HideFromFacebook Well, like i said before, you just can't go wrong.

  • @secretaccountyay One of the best bands of our generation.

  • @Reardenlife1957 yeah, room on fire is the weakest to me ,but reptilia kicks ass.

  • @THEGUYD0WNTHESTREET I agree. It was the least innovative album, since it is a lot similar to Is This It, but yeah Reptilia rocks.

  • @Reardenlife1957 I personally found it quite enjoyable. Angles on the other hand, was quite meh.

  • @Reardenlife1957 As a matter of fact , I've been told that's it's an heresy and almost a crime to say "weak album" and " The Strokes" in the same sentence.

  • @Reardenlife1957 who the fuck said that ? first impressions of earth is the best album

    you only live once

    juicebox

    15 minutes

    fear of sleep

shit, i can mention the whole album as the best song

  • @Reardenlife1957 I used to think that too because I loved the first 2 albums & then I loved "Angles" but I now I listen to this record everyday & I fuckin' love it

  • @Reardenlife1957 People don't like change.

  • best lyrics jules has come up with.

  • this more than good... this is more than amazing...this is more then incredible... this is a pure masterpiece!

  • This is very, very good. I am glad they are back.

  • tuneee

  • I just recently saw a song "Boombox" by the Lonely Island. I looked up Julian Casablancas because he was an awesome singer, and then I found out that he's the lead singer of one of my favorite fucking bands, The Strokes.

    Mind = blown

  • Love The Way His voice Gets So High Pitched At 2:45

  • wayda give me goosebumps JULIAN. (':

  • omgee i love his voice at 4:07. It gives me goosebumps.

    <3

  • they just came out with their track on their website

  • i always wondered why it ends so abruptly , i often wondered if i had a bad copy of the disc or something, never knew it was intentional...then again i only got into the strokes about 2 moths ago....

  • @DeviantxSoundzZ yeah its called Angles and if you live in the u.s the new album will be comming out in march 22!!! (:

  • @cocochanell7 Okay sweet can't wait

  • This song is so powerful and no matter how you interpret it it will still impact you. The chorus is just so fucking brilliant. Love every second of this song.

  • This is one of, if not, the best Strokes songs! I can't believe it only has 33,000 views.

-The Strokes rock! Can't wait for the new album :D

  • @DeviantxSoundzZ YEHH!! and im happy to see that there new album is comming out i bet ill like every single song on there

  • @cocochanell7 Wait what's the album? There's a new one? I just started listening to the strokes so i don't know. What's it called?

  • @DeviantxSoundzZ The album is called Angles, and the first single is called Under Cover of Darkness

  • @coisinhasbanais Okay thanks man

  • This song is amazing!

  • I LOVE the ¿guitar? riff of this song :).

  • hey guys check out there new single off there new album "angles" "under cover of darkness" fuckin grreatt!!! :D :D

  • @cocochanell7 Yeah man usaully I only like a few songs from a single band... But with the Strokes I love every song, and I just started really listening to them tonight.

  • i love how its called IZE of the world and its definitley deep if you hear it and i love how julian goes nuts on "in the dusk(or dust not sure) of all your lies" he has such a great true rock n rolla voice

  • @ATLJRC ok i actually looked it up and im a little off with that lyric quote. he actaully says "young adults to modernize" but still rocks

  • V for Vendeta is an awesome movie, i suggest you to watch it

  • @honorship lol

  • That solo gives me the fucking chills.

  • your sad. but its not your eyes.. they never change.. its the muscles around them.. lolllllll

  • this was always one of my favorite Strokes songs, but after really looking into the lyrics it gets you here <3 haha

  • my favorite song by them

  • @rkscuba210 LMao!!

  • is the song really cut on 4:23?

  • its called ize of the world because at the end of the song hes says vapor.....

this song is and attack on the media and the generalization of everything that we humans do.

  • 1 person was so amazed by this songs beauty that they accidentally clicked dislike (:

  • I thought "Ize" was both a reference to the -ize words, but a replacement for the "eyes" of the world

  • tzzz

  • to the person who clicked dislike, how and WHY? this song is about your existence and what it means. did you commit suicide after clicking? when you can't handle it anymore, that's the only way to go..

  • This is poetic, meaningful, smart, beautiful, great, AWESOME.

    I LOVE THE STROKES.

  • this is the best song of our generation.

  • this is this the best song of our generation.

  • fucking good lyrics! julian overcomes doherty

  • my favorite guitar solo of all time.

  • Comment removed

  • pretty much changed my life, this song has.

  • "ize" could have to do with all of the steps one goes thriugh every day. "a desk to organize"; "Movie stars to idolize" the things that someone is always doing. but at the end when the song ends before he can say "ize" after vapor, its almost like hes breaking free from all of the things hes stuck with or the movement that are expected

  • this songs kinda depressing but i like it anything done by the strokes i like!

look up julian casablacas's solo album really good i love the strokes and im only 13 phrase for the yong lol

  • this songs kinda depressing but i like it anything done by the strokes i like!

look up julian casablacas's solo album really good

  • It has always amazed me that the Strokes are not more popular then they are. They truly are one of the best bands that has been around in a very long time.

  • I'd like to kiss this song.

  • 0 dislikes. =)

  • the chorus guitar kinda sounds like the pre-solo of don't fear the reaper

  • Awesome song! the strokes are the best!!

  • i like how even when they try something different, it's still freaking fantastic

  • awesome lyrics.

  • i just got this album haha im really late!

i was soo happy when i got it :) they earned 20 bucks from me haha

  • Bliss

    This lyrics are brilliant

  • i love this song cause of its meaning

  • the lyrics to this are amazing!!!! I love the strokes way too fucking much!

  • This song it's about not being free. "Ize" represents here censorship, because he doesn't finish to say "vaporize", he only says "vapor" and the song ends abruptly. Genious. This world is ruled by corporate sons of bitches who don't care about our freedom and well being, they only care about greed. There is no room for philosophy.

  • @whatup2512 Or it could be seen in another way. The lyrics obviously are the best he has every written. But maybe "ize" here could also be "eyes of the world" or at least that's one Idea I got...eyes or the world/ ize of the world.

  • @EnokiSkai Yeah, good point there. it could mean both censorship (ize) and resistance to that censorship/ full awareness of that censorship (eyes).

  • @whatup2512

That may well be true but I'm pretty much positive that it concludes abruptly not because he is being censored but because he has been vaporized along with the city.

  • @hudsonmarco It's also a good interpretation. Still, one interpretation doens't 'erase' the olther, both can be right.
