Dad was in the Coasties back when the Sikorsky Pelican was still flying. He flew as navigator search and rescue Kodiak, Alaska. Lol they didn't even have the Dauphin nor rescue swimmers back then. Totally different world.
I have been wanting to join for 3years now and I still cant cus im too young still but i have already started training because i want to be a rescue swimmer
just pay attention, I was a Sea Cadet before becoming a Coastie. there are some huge differences! I kept getting in trouble for forgetting to call "Attention on Deck" for the CC's.
Oh well, I took it, took my beatings, got in the best shape of my life, 5'8" 165 pounds with 65" chest and shoulders and a 30" waist!
Best advice I can give you:
when you're down, remember that you ARE there, you'll be a Coastie
@MurPaDiLos Thanks man I actually changed my mind to keep going with Navy but I still have a great respect and appreciation to what the CG does since I been in Sea Cadets in a Coast Guard Base since I joined the Cadet Corps and those guys are awesome, btw why in the CG you dont say "Attention on deck in the Coast Guard? and good luck man nice to hear from a former cadet who is now in Military.
@MurPaDiLos wait nevermind about the question i understood wrong.
but yeah i sometimes forget to call attention on deck too and i end up doing push ups. lol hey i want to ask you a question since you was a sea cadet too....A Cadet never salutes a Midshipman right?
@MurPaDiLos cuz there is a Midshipman in my unit who keep saying cadets must to salute him and call attention on deck and I refuse to salute him and call attention on deck as an officer because in my understanding a midshipman is not an yet an officer until he ranks up to Ensign am I right?
they were my Company Commanders, an E-6 and an E-5... so I didn't call it. but in USCG basic, you do. so oops.
that's funny you were on a CG base for the cadets... I was at MCAS El Toro before it was shut down.
most Coasties say I'm even too cocky for them, they blame my "Devil Dog" upbringing. I was in the USSC for about ten years. Then six in the USCG, now medically discharged.
if you have any questions, feel free to message me
@MurPaDiLos thanks man and its also funny to me cuz im in CG base but I want to be with Marines cuz if I join Navy I wanna be a Corpsman and u was in a Marine base but wanted to be in CG lol
Its long hours workin, on gear, training of all kinds testing for qaul.s and rank and more training so on duty days when ya gotta go out , hopefully you,ll come back. I was SARcrew on the ol, HH52a and was on 4 rescues, 2day,2nite 2 storm and your too damn busy to be scared. You know someones life depends on YOUR professionalism and all that training/studying comes out and slapes you on your ass and gets the job done! Jus, anouther day/nite job? I don,t think so !
i score a 42 on my asvab. the first branch i wanted to join was the air force, but the only thing i can do there is adinistration and i dont want to do that. is there any thing i can do in the uscg with my score. also, i used to be on medication for my a.d.d. does that automatically disqualify from the uscg? if not, what jobs could i get with a raw score of 42?
when i called the coast guard recruiting office they go through a bunch of question and they ask you if you have a.d.d but im not sure if you say yes if that disqualifies you?
i don't think so do. i think it depends on the meds you're taking for it and how strong they are. i talked to my recruiter and i remember him mentioning something about it...i don't have add but it's best to be honest, they'll fuck you hard if you're not.
Hey, I just got back about 2 weeks ago...it was amazing! When you're old enough you should definintely go! It was a lot of pressure and stress but it was definitely worth it!
Thank you for this awesome video! A lot of people don't relize that the soldiers in Iraq aren't the only ones bravely risking their lives for the sake of complete strangers.
Hey VERT nice vid, very cool...love the song. Hey guess what? I just got accepted into USCGA AIM Summer Seminar!! I am so psyched...hopefully this is a sign of good things to come!
