I hope this is cheering for women who have similar experiences. Do they have no capacity to live according to what they find important, why are they bothering ?? In this day and age are heterosexual adult women really this miserable ? Why do they live like this if they dont like it? They are prosperous and educated. As a young woman I just think, wow, is this the best women can do for themselves ? Affluence and opportunity seem to have done little for this generation of baby boomers.
i live in australia an im 18 and chirstmas as off the last few years was usually mum would work and id stay home eatin crap we bought from the store and i only had like 1 or 2 gifts, we didnt even bother with the tree last year lol. an we only get a couple of gifts for ppl and ofcourse i always wrap it my ma only does the presents for me. so yer christmas is really not that diff from rest of year. i celebrate new year more than christmas ;)
Yeah. I lived in oz for 5 years. I had a good time but your Christmas period sucks. In Britain its a lot more festive and happier. People complain about the weather but hot sun isnt everything and i would rather be too cold than hot. My Aussie friend last year had to go home for christmas to Mackay and she literally was crying and refused to go back, she wouldnt get out of the car at the aiport,so she stayed with us :)
We've never had a real Christmas tree it's always been artificial, ours is a £120 one from John Lewis and looks better than a real one. A friend of mine had a real one and when I go and help decorate it I go mental with all the needles on the floor. We also decorate the tree together, look and move things about, then watch Scrooge.
fake trees are the best! you only have to pay like £20 or a bit more and they look great and last for ages. real trees are just a pain dragging it in the house. fake trees you can fold up for next year.
i hate real christmas trees they are spiteful and sharp i always end up cuting my hand trying to decorate the damn thing. artifical ones is the way forward
I didn't know some women were so obsessed with Xmas. How the hell do they have time for cards etc preparation? If they are not housewives I don't see how they have time for their kids, jobs and sexual life. They seem so unhappy and pissed off, still they do it.
I've spent Christmas in Australia, it was ok, but it wasn't festive at all, it was just a hot, normal day.
You should be sitting by an open fire at Christmas! The best bit is being all wrapped up going for a walk in the freezing cold after dinner, - Not burning in the sun on a beach having a barbecue! - That's not Christmas!
Plus the TV is SOOOOOOO much better in the UK!! All the Christmas specials...etc.
(I lived in Oz for three years and am glad to be home).
lol, i was discussing this with my friend the other day.. about how there's really no christmas culture adapted for countries in the southern hemisphere.. that'd go for new zealand and south africa too.. sitting by a roaring fire on christmas doesn't work down here for obvious reasons. So all we can really do is a half-assed antipodean adaption of what you europeans are doing but with cold meats and cold desserts. And so much wasted food, because nobody is really hungry in hot weather.
Best comment on here. Australia was alright but like many i got sucked into the Neighbours dream and realised it wasnt true. And yes,Christmas in Oz is shit, and i mean really shit. There is just no magic in it,sometimes hot sun isnt everything. Im much happier in Cambridge!
