captain jeff..can you get good tarpon action close to the shore while beach fishing? i used to swim my bait about 100yards offshore for years until i recently had an encounter with a 10 foot bull shark within 100 feet of me..so i need to get a kayak to take the bait out..lately i 've been casting my bait about 100 feet out and have only got 1 tarpon in the past 2 weeks..but the week before that i had a 6 tarpon week, from 80 up to 130..i was hoping it had something to do with tides/lunar phase

In the area I grew up, NW Dade county (and 10 miles inland) I've seen and/or caught tarpon, snook, snapper, jack cravelle, permit, blue crabs, and even an occasional sting ray.

Tarpon (what this fish is) are just one of the many types of ocean-going fish that use these areas for breeding. However, there is an enormous resident population of the same throughout the Intercoastal waterway and canal system.

It isn't a river - it is a canal that is off an inlet to the ocean - near the Fort Lauderdale airport (hence the airplane). I have fished there many times. It isn't at all "secret". It is close to a power plant which kicks out warm water, so the tarpon congregate there. I have caught many tarpon in that exact spot. I have also had hammerhead sharks chase the tarpon. And finally, I agree with haggggs, I really don't care to know this freak show either.
