  • What a brilliant fellow

  • How far is this conversation from the actual situation around the world ?

    is almost prophetic ?

  • I would not recommend religion to anyone, in any case.

  • i recommend all of you to plz watch Yusuf Estes videos on youtube who was a former priest from california

this world is functiong on give and take formula in order to get something you have to loose something only religion provides you with real meaning so search for it before its too late you will feel contentment even "if your pockets are empty and even if no one is out there to love you"

but you have to work hard for it

as we do for our apparent being....

  • Religion may provide you with real meaning but we are all indivuduals. Personally, I can't get any meaning from something that has no basis in reality, not that I'm against it. It just doesn't feel right for me.

    Peace.

  • LOL around 5 minute mark..patriot act anybody?

  • Resources ARE plentiful, just as arzoyan has tried to point out to you. What is scarce, is the awareness of that truth. Because you have not yet seen thru the ruse, you cannot see that to amass excesss, and to hoard those excesses, creates scarcity. What is the point? Scarcity to us, means we are forced to meet the demands of those who have hoarded resources. We have striking examples: Enron, Junk Bonds, Derivative Trading, Bank and Auto bailouts. Control, and the perpetuation of holding more.

  • @whiff1962 - we are more than a little tired of F-heads like you waving your little free enterprise flag. Then when there is a horrible F-up, its because the system has been preverted and therefore it didn't function like it was supposed to...lame! Boring! In your mind the premise cannot be at fault. Go, my child, wake thyself up from your slumber. You are sick. That is why you hang around posts like this begging for direction because your capitalistic toy is broken. Poor man.

  • @pjamesbda Obviously, you get your hard-on with your polemics, frothing at the mouth.

  • "manipulated, tyrannical, enslavement, criminal, (artificial) scarcity" I might suggest you add a few superlatives and exclamation points to bring home your point. How do you suggest that the present exploiting system be dismantled? Armed resistence, just as radical Marxists have always posited? Obviously you can sit yourself down in your comfortable chair (made by slave labor, no doubt), and type your bilious garbage on your capitalist-produced computer.

  • Just what professor Chomsky says in "manufactured consent" just as if he was taking the words from professor Fromm. How old is this interview anyway. We need more serious social critics in America the Becks' and O'riles of today's news. So called pseudo analyst of today.

  • An absolute hero!

  • "The vitality of a nation depends on the sincerity in which they believe the values that they pronounce they advocate" Wow. Like saying you believe in freedom and democracy but in reality they are just meaningless slogans to paper over market values.

  • The historic evolution of private property relationship is the emergence of family, class, state as institutions of power and control. Capitalism the worship of private property/money is the organised suffering and suppression of immense humanity in a politically manipulated market mechanism of artificial scarcity. To evolve we need to cooperate for our common material and emotional needs in enlightenment, wisdom and brotherhood. Happiness is a moneyless, classless, stateless world community

  • Comment removed

  • @arzoyan And no more striving. BTW, who would manage this moneyless, classless, stateless world "community" of yours? What of one's strivings? Who would furnish that to the individual? You are indeed a poor judge of history and human nature, no?

  • @whiff1962 Human Beings both Biologically and Socially are evolving species and not fixed in time and space, We have the possibillity of plenty in harmony and cooperative creative interaction in sharing the Earth for our common needs and wellbeing. I am not a judge of anything just that if you leave all the dogmas that we internalised for ruling class interest.

  • @arzoyan Your cultural marxism is dogma. You talk of the cooperative nature of human beings, which I would say is a valid truism, yet, your internal contradiction is in your (unwitting?) assumption of some external controlling source that would see to the redistribution of wealth. It is the latter that Fromm and the FS would have advocated. Your position is consistent with a statist apologist, where each individual is subsumed by the "whole", and which a few (technocrats) decide for the many.

  • @whiff1962 A moneyless, classless, stateless communities of humanity expressing our freedom in creative harmonious cooperation for a world that is so POTENTIALLY AND ACTUALLY nourishing. Capitalism in any form, Statist or Corporatist is the denial of our common humanity in a politically manipulated, tyrannical armed MARKET SYSYTEM of artificial scarcity that is designed to perpetuate the enslavement of immense humanity for material interest of the criminal ruling elite.

  • @arzoyan When is the last time you actually read any book on political philosophy, front to back. For that matter, you're confounding your economic with the political, in particular, your insistence that captitalism, and personal wealth, is to be seen as inherently evil. Try living in a command economy for several years, and get back to me on that classless society of which you blabber on about. Your views belong with the mainstay of Marxist thought: consigned to the junkpile of history.

  • @whiff1962 When is the last time you understood any sentence. I am not for state capitalism or command economy, I mentioned clearly that Market system whether State dominated within a border or Corporate manipulation are two side of the same tyrannical moneytary expression. You are shadow boxing with your own inabillity to comprehend clearly, coherently and dialectically.

  • Comment removed

  • @arzoyan Your rhetoric is ossified, and you do not think; you simply spew out the same tired, threadworn "dialectical" garbage that disaffected individuals with no direction spew out. Garbage in is garbage out.

  • @arzoyan If you are not for state capitalism (socialism?) nor a command economy, then what on earth are you for? I think you have been drawing from the same poisoned well for way too long. Have you ever conceived of the ramifications of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"? You seem to militate against individual initiative, while "proposing" some kind of level playing field. However, that has been proven to be a failure, and your vision is mediocre.

  • @whiff1962 A resource based economy as advocated by Zeitgeist movement, but then again your concept of Socialism is the distorted as it originaly was meant exactly what I wrote, A classless, moneyless,Stateless communities of humanity , sharing the Earth in cooperation for our common needs and well being , expressing our creative energies in freedom of being.

  • @arzoyan Is English your native tongue? For a man well over forty years of age, you strike me as simplistic and steadfastly obscure. Your ideas are but a pastiche of disparate Marxist-socialist drivel.

  • Comment removed

  • @whiff1962 You are lost in dogmas and false limits manufactured by your owners.

  • @arzoyan I can't believe you're still a communist, and you're proud of it. You think players who play in the AHL should get paid like Ovechkin? No, no, no. It wouldn't work, it's adverse to human nature. I ran across your spam message and had to intervene. Communism is for people who oppress themselves. They feel oppressed by their own imagination and want everyone else to be oppressed in reality. Think about it, one of your pen pals is Kim Jong Il, the man who was born from a rainbow.

  • @carl Capitalist mode of production has revolutionised technology/ science and human organisation to such an extent that Market System has become a FALSE LIMIT to truly and effectively taking care of our NEEDS AND WELL BEING. We need to share the Earth in COOPERATION not in COMPETITION and transcend the PROFIT motive to SANCTITY OF LIFE. We have all the means and resources , the human creative genius for a meaningfull path of harmony within and without. You are a tool recycling lies, distortions

  • Comment removed

  • And you think that a command economy would have the kind of responsiveness and flexibility of a free market system? Your talk of artificial scarcity being engendered by capitalism, but what of actual scarcity and cues of people waiting to get necessities? Capitalism IS, to date, the most efficient and responsive in terms of goods and services. You want compassion? Then show it with friends and family. Your economic system would necessitate a totalitarian system and abridge freedoms.

  • @arzoyan You just don't get it, do you? Capitalism has its problems and they need to be fixed, but you honestly believe that someone who works at KFC should make as much as a doctor. That's called insanity. It's an insult to doctors who work twelve hour days and earn what they happen to earn. Do you live in Oz? Mr. Whiff is right to reprimand you. You're vision for the world would only cause people to hate each other even more, because the hard workers would have to carry an even heavier burden.

  • @carlmelanson1 It's necessary to modify your frame of reference to include the fact that necessary resources are actually abundant.

  • Comment removed

  • @arzoyan - Resources ARE plentiful. Thank you for speaking out here.

  • So true what he says, go to my channel then playlist and learn more

  • Fromm's opinions makes me think of Fight Club. Very thought provoking!

  • @jurrienrietveld

Fight Club? Ha ha... how so?

  • unfortunately what you seem to be missing is that everything is propaganda. difference between the two is one based on honest analysis the other on fear. huxley greatly expounded on it.

  • still so actual!

and in my opinion so true and very provokative!

    Genius !

  • yep! We are fuking hypocrites!

  • @MopDMTBARTL God is love and hate, yin and yang.. light and dark. There is no difference between the two. It is what it is. They are interchangeable and changeable. Positive/Negative they all exist in the same plain and change polarity and position depending on the local situation.

  • So true. One of the most important people of our times if we ever want to effect change. Bruce Lee, Krishnamurti, Ayn Rand, Alan Watts,....

We should not stop when understood, we should ACT!

  • Great how he equates our concept of "Love" with our concept of "Religion"; as Milan Kundera said, they are the 2 main places we humans go to hide from any real confrontation with God--Relationships and Religion.

A truth so boldly honest that it shatters the whole foundation of most people's

    perception.

  • Genius.

  • manipulated consent, gotta love it...

  • This man is deep.1958 and warnings@2:20 and on could have been played today,51 years later.

  • I long to fully trust the bliss of unintentional being... life without fear, judgment, and contradiction. The moment can be fleeting if the experience is not right. My spirit is as wise as my subjective reality can conclude. I am able to tolerate others and search for truth with more patience and forgiveness everyday. Please express shamelessly the aim of your actions so you can bring more awareness to the present need of less control.

  • Democracy today means "manipulated consent". Fromm is so correct!!

  • @mayurasana And what of the manipulations of totaltitarian-collectivist states? I think that the state is needful, however, what form the state takes on, the power it is to assume over the individual (and collective) are questions that are all too often skirted by those who pine away for some collectivist-socialist utopia.

  • @mayurasana no.. democracy as in demo (crowd or mob) and cracy (rule) has, and always will, mean 'mob rule', the problem is, that is has always been in reality, mob UNDER rule..

  • If the world of then (the 50s) was in crises then the world of now is in super and deeper crises.

  • No, it's not a crisis anymore. It's a complete catastrophe, but in a slow motion.

  • Absolutely.

  • when was this?

  • great ideas great waty of expressing them as well

  • Fromm was an indelible influence on my life -- "Art of Loving"

  • @cskor

Nice! Im reading it right now, after having read "Man For Himself" and "Escape From Freedom" This guy is brilliant

  • I love him! Graet man!!!

  • "the experience of union with another being" love that
