  • How can I use traktors effects over ableton, can it be done, I prefer ableton but traktors effects are better

  • OMG GOD TRAKTOr AND ABLETON R GONNA MAKE ME A SICK MUSICIAN LOL

  • Great video and was able to follow all the way through except my 4/4 sound card - vci 100 mkii - allows for Traktor master to be heard but not the Ableton. I can hear the Ableton loop in the headphones of the mixer. I'd like to go internal in Traktor since it allows for full control of the fader volume but i don't require it. Hope it makes sense.

  • They were meant to be best friends :D

  • Wait so why would someone during a live performance want to play their loops and instruments in ableton live? What's the benefit in using both the programs live? Isn't traktor great for all that? Does it allow you to do more with your tracks? Please explain! Also if someone's set up is traktor and a traktor s4, how would it benefit to also incorporate ableton live with that setup for a live performance?

  • @ironchefman36 It would benefit because you can play all of your VST's and Loops in Sync with whatever tracks your playing in Traktor. Be on the lookout for upcoming announcements from Traktor though on Traktor's twitter. *hint hint*

  • Is it possible to flip a midi controller back and forth from controlling traktor to ableton with the touch of a button

  • @schijfgram depends on what hardware you want to use, but some things like the novation launchpad and akai mpk have multiple user modes that can be switched easily, and mapped to whatever you want.

  • @parkerLwebb I have the apc 40 and I am trying to get it where i push a button and it flips from controlling traktor to controlling ableton. The only way i can think of doing this is mapping a button to turning off the in ports and out ports in traktor and turning on the midi ports in ableton unfortinaly i don't think i can map the midi in/ out ports on traktor

  • @schijfgram get traktor kontrol for traktor pro, now $300, keep apc40 for live... everything will work out i guess i got it even with pc!

  • @schijfgram Yes, in fact the Traktor Kontrol X1 was made to switch back and forth. If you go into MIDI mode on the X1 it can control Ableton or any other program that takes MIDI, and you can go back and forth between User Mode (Traktor) and MIDI Mode (Ableton). The same goes for the S4 and lots of other controllers as well.

  • This is awesome, thank you! Going to make my gigs so much better!

  • Do you have to do something different when using Traktor Pro 2? I swear I've followed this tutorial step by step and I can't get this to work.

  • @msalamone11 I would check the link to the article above. Maybe there was a step you missed. Just FYI there is no virtual output on windows

  • Traktor 2 here & no virtual output...?!?!?! Just shows controllers & all or none...

  • @YoginJ same problem here

  • @YoginJ Virtual Output only works on mac currently

  • Do you know informations about hardware stress if Ableton working with videos? Thanks.

  • @djrodrigotorres I was using this setup on an old macbook pro (3 years old) and had no problems

  • do i need an external sound card to sync ableton and traktor?

  • @DoidekaDUB No you don't need an external sound card to sync the programs. You can use your computers headphone jack if you want.

  • For Windows 7 User:

    watch?v=6ZqQ3dMsPNI&context=C3b8b3e9ADOEgsToPDskJ7v_JUjIl6jpgjwJrANkHd

  • can i use ableton live with traktor duo ? or do i need traktor pro.

  • I have the Traktor S2, using the built in soundcard. how do I route this?

  • @jmotter92 use your computers audio card, if you need more help, send me a message and I'll send you pics!

  • @jmotter92 I am trying to figure this out myself

  • this tutorial is ok for the midi part, but not good for the audio routing whith the S4 interface... the audio routing dont work corectly ... help please !

  • helped me alot thanks for this!

  • do it works for window???

  • @djariell10 Yes! It can work but you must use a virtual midi cable like Midi Yoke!!

  • @djariell10 You can sync the two programs on windows but you might need to use two separate audio interfaces - one for each program since sharing soundcards on windows doesn't usually work (in my experience anyways)

  • I dont have a 'show global section' can anyone help?

  • @Mattaus1994 Its under preferences - Global Settings "Show Global Section"

  • Hey I have a quik question relating to the Ableton Live 8 and Traktor pro 2, wondering if certain versions depend on what laptop is being used for best performance. 3 macbooks So hopefully someone may have related to this same question, First is a 2.0.3 I'm running Live 8 (8.2.6) and traktor pro 2 (2.0.3) and on a regular macbook 2.13 (8oo mhz ram) a 2.6 15' macbook pro 4g ram, 667 mhz... and the new 2.7 13' 4gram 1333 mhz. Should I be running certain versions to maximize performance??

  • @auboj69 The response from both Ableton and Native Instruments would probably be "Make sure your running the latest version for maximum performance"

  • Hy DJ Endo and thank you for your videos and music ! How should I adapt this method if I still want to use a midi cable between two CPU units ?

  • @mileselou It works the exact same way except when you make your midi device in the controller manager, you would set the output port to your Audio 8 DJ (or whatever soundcard your using that has MIDI out) instead of using the Virtual Output. That will allow Traktor to send MIDI out of that MIDI port.

  • Hi, I want to know if it's possible to use Traktor for playing and mixing a beat -with a Numark mixtrack Pro- and launch samples from ableton -with an akai apc 20- using one computer. If so, Is this configuration the way to go? Thanks for your help! n_n

  • @almahardcore Yes absolutely. There is a mapping included for the Mixtrack Pro built into Traktor. You would just have to import that by clicking "Import" and going to the default settings / controller / numark folder and loading the correct Mixtrack TSI. Then you follow the steps in the video to sync ableton, and you can use your APC 20 to control ableton. Have fun!

  • What a great tutorial now I need to get myself a new controller to use with ableton

  • And if I only want to use Traktor's built in effects on Ableton without playing any sound on Traktor? Can I use Traktor with Sends/Returns or something? Playing on Ableton and using Traktor FX's.

  • @camg503 Yes you can do this by basically following this tutorial but in Jack OSX you hook it up in reverse (sending audio from each channel in Ableton to a channel of Traktor) and then setting each deck in Traktor to be a Live Input and applying the effects to the Decks in Traktor. I did this with Jonathan Peters once and it worked like a charm!

  • @DeeJayEndo Thanks bro! I'm gonna try it.

  • CAN YOU SYNC TRAKTOR TO PRO TOOLS

  • @DeeJayEndo is an Audio 10 the only soundcard to use with this, or is it also possible for me to use the Audio 6 to sync Traktor with Ableton?

  • @DJTedious You can use any soundcard to sync both programs.

  • @DeeJayEndo Ok, but how does prelistening work then? i mean, don't i need more outputs for prelistening? is there a difference between prelistening audio channels in Live to prelistening traktor channels?

  • @DJTedious My answer to that is you can do as much as your soundcards outputs will allow. So if you have an audio 10 you could for example use 3 channels for 3 traktor decks, 1 channel for Ableton, and 1 channel for prelistening in Ableton. You would just set the monitor output in ableton to its own output. Also Traktor has a prelistening deck called the preview deck which you can also map to its own output in preferences - audio setup - output routing.

  • i dont have traktor's virtual output in my controller manager please help asap

  • @OnOffOn37 I am unable to see Tracktor's Virtual Output as well! What could be the issue @DubSpot do you have any ideas?

  • @OnOffOn37 Yes, only Mac users have Traktor virtual output currently

  • OMG THANK YOU I NEEDED THIS SOOO MUCH

  • This goes out of sync with midi devices in ableton!! why...WHY!!

  • @hirrakki The new update of Traktor (2.1.1) has a broken / unstable MIDI clock. If you downgrade back to 2.0.3 everything should be stable again. If it goes out of sync, just hit the sync button in Traktors Master clock section

  • I tried this and was successful in getting the two programs synced, using soundflower for audio routing. The problem is that the midi sync is coming out of Traktor is 1 beat off everytime. If I launch a clip in live, it will start playing on the "2". I can get around this by launching the clip on the "4", but the Ableton master sync is set for 1 bar, and theres no logical reason why it should do this.

Also, if I try to drastically change song tempo, it looses sync

    Am I missing something?

  • @BlakMajikDJ Hit the sync button on Traktor's Master clock and it will restart ableton's clock at 1.1.1. Try not to change the tempo too quickly and drastically. Ableton might have problems catching up immediately. I heard the new update of Ableton is a lot better with MIDI sync. Going to be testing that out soon!

  • If you trigger a bpm change in ableton will it throw off the sync?

  • @naanod you can't change the BPM in Ableton if its in External Sync (Slave) Mode

  • great tutorial.. finally got my traktor completely in sync and routed through ableton.. yay! ;) time for some playing...

  • so i got this problem with my macbook pro.

i just bought a Hercules RMX controller and i just couldnt find out how to make it work with traktor pro duo2.

ive downloaded the driver and the mapping for it from DJ techtools but still im not really good with macs.

ive tried with virtual DJ and the controller works fine but the built in sound card just wont work . theres no sound at all coming out of it even i tried many different settings please help.

    thanks

  • This does not work with Traktor S4 why??

  • Could've mentioned somewhere at the very beginning that it was only for Mac. No Traktor Virtual MIDI on a PC. Apparently external software called Loop Be1 can work for PC users. Gonna try it now after wasting time scratching my head looking for Traktor Virtual MIDI.

  • @jeroenATxurion currently Virtual Output is only available on Mac

  • I saw a dubspot tutorial for DJing live in ableton, and I like the thought of DJing in Ableton. But I like the thought of using Traktor AND ableton more. But, which is best for live DJing? Is this just for mixing, or is it a good setup to use live?

  • @devpeck1 in my opinion Traktor is better for Live DJing because you have a browser, and playlists. Its also easy to loop, beatjump and mix without any preparation work. Ableton is great for studio mixes. But using them both can be great because you can use elements of your production and loops inside of ableton. However, since I've done this video Traktor came out with the Sample decks, allowing you to add your own loops and samples in perfect sync with your tracks!

  • Got it... I'm an idiot. Thanks.

  • I did this and it worked great... but when I go back to traktor all faders are gone!

  • @carmelkevlar32 go to preferences - output routing and change it to Internal if you want to see the faders

  • amazing!

  • How many channels does your sound card need in order to do this?

  • @ERMAC4482 as many as you want to use. If you want to have 3 channels traktor (3 decks) and one channel Ableton you need 4 channels. You can combine decks in traktor and ableton on the same channels though. So I guess technically you could run everything out of one channel (all 4 decks and ableton). I wouldn't reccomend that though

  • is possible this rewire with only my traktor s4 or i need a sound card?and if i have a traktor audio 2 is possible??

  • @sogiboy80 yes, you can do the same thing with the Traktor S4 and use the S4 soundcard for both programs

  • Dude...this is the best video since toasted bread...THANK YOU!!

  • i have an audio 2 now... i'll upgrade to the s4 sometime... but since the s4 doesn't have multiple audio outputs, can i easily use the audio 2 to output to live then conect it to the mic in on the s4???

  • This is ONLY for MAC :/ U supposed to write this !!!!!!! Can U make tutorial for Windows 7 ? And what about sending sound from Traktor to Ableton ??:)

  • @M2MiniMal yes, this is mac specific but if you have a program such as MIDI yoke or another virtual MIDI cable program you can do the same thing on windows. To route sound into ableton from traktor check out or tutorial on routing audio from traktor to ableton

  • @DeeJayEndo Thanks for answer, but once again... that video is also for mac ONLY :) In Windows 7 ( i have only this one ) this doesnt work :( And with yoke or any anoher virtual midi cable, still doesnt work with Windows 7. Traktor sends everything to only one audio channel in Ableton and you cant record. And everything is out of sync :/ I was looking everywhere for answer and i think for now making sync and routing decks to different audio channels is in Windows - impossible :(

  • at the top, it says traktor scratch, is it the same connetions for traktor pro2?

  • @djkrypto1103 yes you would follow the same steps for Traktor Pro 2

  • what channel does Ableton come out of? Essentially I'm asking how do you control the output from the mixer for ableton?

  • I suppose using the APC40 is no problem?

  • NICE!

    GREAT TUTORIAL!

  • wooow nice tutorial

  • my traktor2 pro doesnt have that output option. It only has all ports and none. I am running it on a pc btw.

  • @chicagoterence this only works on mac, however there are other virtual midi cable programs out there like MIDI yoke

  • Hi Endo! first of thankyou for your cool tutorial. Ive managed to sync Traktor 2 with Ableton live, following your guidsteps. Everything works great in sync when Traktors clock is set to Master. The problem is when I set it to Auto and play a track in one of the decks. I have to continually press Sync in Traktor for both programs to stay in sync as Ableton drifts of and the mix sounds out of sync. Any ideas on how I can solve this problem would be greatly appreciated!! thanks!

  • @Alfonrok The new update of Traktor (2.0.3) should've solved this problem. The MIDI clock send is now stablized

  • Comment removed

  • I followed everything but my loops or metronome wont play on ableton ? i did have it working at one stage but it jist fucked up some how ? any help ? and im using a xone 4d as my soundcard and to also control traktor , so i think it mite have something todo with the beat detect on the xone 4d

  • once i get to my layout settings in traktor there is no check box that says show global setting what should i do

  • hey dj endo or dubspot how much would u charge to me just to sync ableton 8 into traktor pro 2 i can pass by 14 st . i have xone 92 , xone 1d ,audio 10 dj ill be changing id for traktor control x1 and maschine koz the mapping is a pain and i just want to avoid this laziness and just have it all set i wana use 4 decks from traktor message me if this hook up is possible im close to u guys .

  • @guillenrossi if you still want to set this up give dubspot a call, ask for kelly and have her set up a lesson with the two of us - Endo

  • D:

    <3

  • I have serious problems with the latency on stage. Tracks on traktor skips by miliseconds. How can I solve the problem?

  • @kevinkeeganarg Make sure all the network-adapters and wi-fi are switched off. I had the same problem with my Kontrol S4 and HP notebook using Windows 7. Never had a glich ever since!

  • @kevinkeeganarg start by turning your airport off

  • i have a question dubspot

is it possible to sync Two computer using Ableton and trakotor with wireless network. if can show us how

  • @onijordan Yes, I will be doing a video on how to sync MIDI clock using a wireless network soon! Give it a month or 2

  • Also, what are your MBP spec? I'm pushing a 17 MBP w/4 g ram and a 2.66ghz processor and I have to offset the traktor input to around -60, you've got -17 (shocked smiley) help?

  • @FYICREW Macbook Pro 2.16 Ghz Processor Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB Ram OSC 10.6.7

  • Hello. Thanks for all the videos. I think I'm only a few libraries away from having every NI product. I think I've got Tsp2 and ableton sync'd around -60 virtual midi. Anyway can you add NI Maschine to all this?

  • @FYICREW Yes, we will have a video up VERY soon on how to Sync Traktor 2 and Maschine. The video is already recorded. Just waiting on the video editing :)

  • u can also just use your ears...

  • @DeeJayEndo Oh right, that's awesome. If you could tell just from my reading my post that I hadn't downloaded T2 then the improvement must be significant to the point of eliminating the problem. I'd been putting it off but I'll grab a beer and update it tonight... Not sure I'll abandon the old school way of mixing into Live though. Done it this way since using Live as a 'third CDJ' and now I feel spoiled with how easy it is to mix into from Traktor! Having such an accurate BPM ref is a treat.

  • Endo is a genius and this is a great tutorial, however, MIDI-synching these programs can work perfectly, but it can also prove unstable and drop out, even when all variables, such as warping in Live and beat-gridding in Traktor, are sorted. It's also nearly impossible to correct a mix. I find it more accurate to type Traktor's 5-digit BPM into Live, switch off clips, hit play on the 1st beat in bar then synch metronone with nudges. You can do this in 2 secs on the fly and still tweak a mix.

  • @halfaneighth The new Traktor Pro 2 update fixes the MIDI clock drifting, so the MIDI clock sent from Traktor is now completely stable and will not drift. You can thank Dubfire for refusing to play on Traktor 2 until they fix that! By the way, this is the reason for the "doubled kicks" in the video. Traktor Pro's MIDI clock would drift and fluctuate a lot. Now its rock solid!

  • on mac how do you switch between traktor and ableton with the icons coming up?

  • @Abovedatlive Apple Tab

  • @DeeJayEndo cheers man sorry i am new to mac still getting my head round all the short cuts, btw your videos with dubspot are some of the best i have seen keep and have helped so many people, keep up the good work

  • Hi Endo, tnx 4 this tutorial! It's great!

What about routing Traktor's master & monitor signal into two Ableton's tracks? TNX

  • @JACOPMICHE Please check out my most recent video on the Dubspot Youtube Traktor Pro 2 + Ableton Live: How to Route Audio | Dubspot's DJ Endo

  • under out-port it doesn't give me the traktor virtual outport, how can i fix this problem?

  • @rickydlp Traktor's Virtual Output only works on Mac

  • @DeeJayEndo i did research and that's true, but there's also a way to do it on Windows, one has to download LoopBe1 and that has to be set as the midi out, works the same exact way if your windows users follow your instructions but just have that midi software installed. Thanks!

  • Pls can some tell how to get the output of ableton to channel c or d on the audio 8 it only works in channel 1 and 2 over the top of my timecode vinyl channel a arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i just want it on a seperate channel on my 4 channel mixer

    thanks

  • This is great! Thank you :)

  • Thanks for video, it's useful. I followed all procedure, it is working for traktor pro s4 too. However I have a problem with sound quality. Music played in ableton is kinda distorted. it is like effected, but actually there is no effect. All setting are same, I just used internal mixer option in output routing instead of external mixer in traktor because it was the only option. (there wasn't external mixer button). The rest is same. Do you have any idea how I can resolve this problem? Thanks.

  • Endo (DubSpot) how would you go about sending audio through Traktor to Ableton?

  • can you do a traktor virtual output when you are using an internal soundcard? why is "all ports" the only output option under control manager? you have way more midi ports than i do on ableton

  • @8xngc Yes, you can do virtual output using an internal soundcard but virtual output only works on a mac

  • @DeeJayEndo well thats a bummer. are there any options for pc users to utilize this virtual output route? syncing ableton and traktor generates a lot of possibilities and a straight forward option for gigs would be very favorable

  • is there a way to use the Traktor Pro S4 device with the Maschine device at the same time? i know that we can sync the clocks but is there a way to take the beats made on maschine real time and add effects or scratch over them immediately on Traktor Pro S4?

  • @LBCProductionsInc Yes. You would sync Maschine to Traktor S4, then you can actually click and drag on the + sign of a pattern in Maschine and drag the audio directly into a deck in Traktor. If you want to do it in real time you would have to route Maschine into a Deck in Traktor. You can dot this by plugging an RCA cable from a seperate Audio interface into the S4, and making one of the decks in Traktor an Audio Through.

  • Hey so i followed the steps,

when i get to the end.

The volume of ableton, and tractor are way way way different.

what is the reason for this

  • @nicofraser187 turn up / down the volume of ableton.

  • Is there anyway to do ths with internal sound card?

  • @MishaKofman Yes, I did it with an internal sound card when I recorded the video :-)

  • Thanks that tutorial was so helpful

  • is there eny way to do enytihing like this on internal control or how to mace my volume faders work on external control? using m-audio xponent....everytink working just not the faders....

  • Man, thank you.

  • This is a perfect tutorial, for those who would like to use live effects on traktor´s audio just download soundflower and your done....I´ve tryied it and works 100% perfect! Just having some trouble with Live...I have to keep adjusting the midi clock delay almost every 3 minute because it drifts away , any help??

  • @lai2k10 Don't change the MIDI clock sync delay. Just beat the heck out of the Sync Button in Traktor's Master Clock. Unfortunately Traktor's MIDI clock can be a little unstable, so you just have to re-sync it. Keep the MIDI clock sync delay the same always. By the way, I think 14ms works better than 17 as I said in the video.

  • My ableton has YELLOW 'ext' and the same color blinking spot and the bpm allways moving +- 1 unit. What would be a problem ? i use my traktor in internal mode with internal soundcard.

  • @Ndoor378 that is normal. its a combination of a cosmetic bug in ableton's master clock (which means the BPM actually isn't drifting that much), and traktor's MIDI clock being a bit unstable.

  • @DeeJayEndo Thx! Do you have any idea that how can I send audio from traktor to ableton? I would like to use ableton effects while i mix in traktor. Both program run on 1 mac. I dont have a xone92 or anything like that and a pro 4channel soundcard-cause money- so unfortunately its not a solve. Is there any PROGRAM or Plugin that fix my problem? I know the question doesnt connect to the topic but I think maybe you know the answer.

  • @Ndoor378 Yes, stay tuned for Part 2 of this video coming out in the next week or two! The program is called Jack OSX

  • @Ndoor378 I ve the same problem. do you already know the answer? thanks

  • @NJSF20 I trying to use a normal 2 (out) channel usb soundcard (traktor use) to send audio to the internal soundcard ( input0/1). In ableton the first audio block receive the traktor sound (Unfortunately is Master) and i set up the ableton preferences to use my internal soundcard output. Continue...

  • Comment removed

  • How can i record my set through ableton after i done all this? i know it records the ableton audio but not from traktor.

And say i have a traktor template for my launchpad but once i sync traktor to ableton i cant use the launchpad on traktor only on ableton

  • @ilovemusic0023 Just record the output of your mixer into Traktor's Audio Recorder

  • this was an absolutely perfect tutorial, good work man and now I am deff thankful I got the audio 8 DJ

  • Hey I've been having problems running the two.... Everything works as planned EXCEPT theres no audio coming into ableton from Traktor any help would be nice

    thanks

  • @dvillalta Thats a whole seperate subject, which I will be covering in future videos. This is just how to get the programs in sync. You can share the same audio output with both programs for now. You can use soundflower to route the audio from Traktor into Ableton

  • @DeeJayEndo I realized that right after I posted it. I know you said you'd post it on future vids but I'm so closeand it would be a great help... I have audio in ableton, the two programs are synced, the only thing I can't figure out is where I route my cue monitors??? Thanks a lot man,

  • Hi there, How do you do this between two people? I have traktor my friend has ableton... thanks!

  • @noematiclogos You can plug a MIDI cable from the MIDI output of your soundcard to the MIDI input of his soundcard and follow the steps in the video and it will work the same.

  • wow, awesome tutorial, many thanks!

One question: is there a way to use live effects on the audio coming from traktor?

I've tried a few ways but couldn't seem to get it. Thanks for any help!

  • @lepaux I believe that there is, I've heard of people doing it but haven't done it personally. I'm going to see if I can Endo to reply to this and explain how.

  • @DubSpot many thanks!

  • @DubSpot

    very nice tutorial!!

you can use soundflower for that...soundflower is a virtual soundcard (18in/18out)...very easy to install, then you can choose soundflower as audiodevice in both programms -> just choose the soundflower outputs you choosed in traktor as input in ableton -> have fun!!!

  • @lepaux Yes You can using soundflower. I believe there are tutorials online but I will work on a new tutorial for this.

  • @DeeJayEndo Thanks. I've tried that and although it works, I wasn't the routing was done through the external interface or the onboard card :(

  • @lepaux would all so like to know this

  • @lepaux i believe you have to use a program called: soundflower

  • @NJSF20 thanks!

  • @NJSF20 @lepaux The best program to use is called Jack OSX. I'll be doing a video on this shortly!

  • @lepaux Hiiii Im trying to record my set on Ableton but im not gettin the option on ableton midi pref for a Traktor virtual out , that options seems to be missing need some help on this .. lookin forward for ur reply

  • @isralienalex1 This only works on Mac. For PC you can use LoopBE1 as a user recommended below. I haven't tested it but it sounds like a virtual midi cable for PC

  • great tutorial guys good job. I'm going to be rocking the S4 and APC40
