A knee kicker was never intended to be used to stretch rooms of carpet that is what a "Carpet Stretcher" is for! Knee Kickers are for steps and closets and for setting walls not stretching! 19year carpet installer as well as a certified carpet inspector
I did carpet for thirty years, kicking almost always. Yea, you may get the carpet tight enough, but if your as dumb as me and think you can make a career of it, and not take care of your body.....keep slammin away macho men. See ya in the hospital in 20 years for a knee or hip replacement! Course the sad part is, at twenty, you think your invincible. Your not!
I agree with the response below on power strechers--If your really lazy try the stinger attachment for the mini strecher- no poles...Only works on decent cut piles tho- But it is a fantasic add on ..assuming you have a power strectcher :)
if you want to destroy your knees, then by all means,go ahead and boot it in. but i'd prefer a power stretcher if you want to have longefity in your career.
I started doing Flooring to feed my children. Ive done Labor in the woods, painting, Roofing, and let me tell you people, Flooring is some of the hardest shit to really get a good grasp on. Not to mention its really hard work.
no, professionals know how to properly install carpet. Hacks know how to install carpet fast. It takes about 30 seconds to put a power stretcher together so how fast do you really kick? If you think your kicker will do as good a job as my power stretcher you must be smoking blocks!
You probably dont get called back because of a one year installation warranty. Trust me I work for small company and I'll I do is restretch carpet. Keep up the good work kicking I like the business.
or better yet, get a stinger.. best tool i ever bought.. but a lot of fools wont like em til they actually work with one.. but seriously i could kick in a whole house with no problems depending on the rug.. call me a hack if you will but i get that shyt tight.. but i would much rather power stretch EVERY room in using a stinger, its the best
lol..The Stinger changed my life :) Cut piles are so easy now to do tight and no pole headaches ! sry..after all these years "I Hate Slow"..but I also hate restreches! the unpaid ones anyway :) Ciao
lol Improper use is what makes you knee sore. It takes hours of training to get the hang of it. Call a PRO next time. Carpet Express of Northern Michigan 989.657.4227 Ask for Chris

Remember this post when your draining the fluid off your knee...or recovering from a knee replacement.
Go about a month without cigarettes, alcohol and dope and you can afford a stretcher.

Installers that don't use power stretchers are either to lazy or not smart enough to know how to properly use them.

strecthing with a knee kicker for small rooms with suffice, but not with those skills shone here!
tjreid007 4 years ago 2
This is why professionals have power stretchers. A kicker is only for positioning carpet, NOT stretching it.

professionals know how to kick properly to get a stretch, even in big rooms.
i would never use a power stretcher on a room smaller then 60 yards.
i could kick this room in and have it stretched faster than than it would take to assemble a power stretcher.
point is, learn how to kick.

You are right, you can get a better stretch with a power stretcher.
that being said,
i rarely use mine, and i have never been called back for a restretch.
some times you have to use them, but not on this room.

i also dont use the power strecher for small rooms. pl think that it cant be done but for the same resson that they dont know how to use the kicker
