  • congratulations;-)

  • sorry, aint tryin to do that, i actually include myself into all i said, i find it hard to capture that unique soul n funk he had, thats all i meant, theres cover songs ive performed that some were pulled off nice ,do 2 the song i had chosen jived with my voc range etc, others i didnt do well. DIG?

  • playing a classical piece ,i'd imagine may be easier, all i met was, Monk had a bluesy funky, groove, and your rendition did not. This isn't an insult, dont take it as one, I am attempting to understand a lil more each day about what it is i'm lacking in my renditions of monks work, and thats a tough one? another words, i rather of heard your performance lacking all the way around, but funky soul in it.

  • @XavierOnitova At least a little bit more specific critics from you, than you very much. My playing has a lot of flaws, that is evident. Believe me or not, I too love that "almos hesitent, soulful... feel, I don't like at all pyrotecnics nor artifices for the show. I study, but in perfomance I always try to play directly from the heart.

Said this, sure you know perfectly, the blues form, specially in jazz, not necesary has to be always "slow, laid back, paused, etc. For example, a lot ot Bird...

  • ...are very fast and still are blues.

I appreciate constructive criticism, but really I don't understand what you get wasting your time trying to push down or degrading me so hard. I'm only an amateur.(and mainly self-thaught,wich has adventages and disventages)It's sad that in these times we are too few people that love Monk,Jazz, Blues(it seems every day less people)to waste energy harasing ones to others.I don't know your renditions, maybe you worry too much about lacks & don't enjoy enough

  • it was mostly a blues piece, anyone attempting to play thelonious monk, like him or better, has been defeated way far before even "loosening up' with appergios, and the many lame other insults to Monk's mastery, brilliance all God given talents, abundantly blessed, Perhaps "Covet Worthy" I'm certain, myself included at the very helm of that morbidly, vultured clawed, with a short little very pink, and pretty chifon quilted umbrella for sundays service perhaps?

  • @XavierOnitova

    Yes, "Misterioso" is a blues.

Yes, absolutely, nobody can play like Thelonious Monk, in the past, present or future. (nor "better"" (!)

Said this, mean you that nobody MUST play Monk's music?

    Nobody must play blues?

and what to say to for example, Bird, Trane, Ellington, Gillespie, etc etc ect...?

And what happens witth Beethoven, Mozart... Bach?

Nobody could "rivalize" with none of them in a million of years.

It means then that NOBODY MUST PLAY THEIR MUSIC?

  • @XavierOnitova

Monk's music is jazz pusic. It Is not about to play "better" than anyone, is about to play anyone's tune in your own (sweet or not so, but always with honestity and plenty of respect) way.

Music is not a competition, IMO

  • Very beautiful song from monk and well played!

  • Thank you so much,.. (see my answer to Kutugawa) :)

  • wow you played it the best out of most that Ive heard Very nice man

  • Thank you so much. Well, hearing myself four months after, really I'm not very proud with the big mistakes I did in the theme exposition, and some parts of my impro are some silly or dissapointed or vague or whathever..Its a hard decision or tradeoff, I saved this take because I enjoyed some other parts,I tried my best and at least it was played with love and absolute respect to Mr. Monk's opus. With the practice I'm going a lot better with my 'little performing anxiety problem' now.My bst rgds

  • @PabloVestory listen over and over to monks performances on youtube all his tunes, and there is a bluesy, soulful almost hesitent like pause,or laydbackness groove, where yours sounded like u forced it into a "whitey" box, if u will? like it became defunked,

  • @XavierOnitova Intended or not, think your comment was insulting, demenaning and entirely unnecessary. The gentleman identified himself as a largely self-taught amateur who plays the piece as an homage to the great Monk. He made no claims for himself other than that he loves the music - and he should be applauded for his skill and effort, not be subjected to your barns because he is not whom you would prefer him to be.

  • Thanks to you very much. I am too a big fan of Monk

  • wow - very good! I am very big fan of Monks composotions and you indeed played it well. Thanks for the tune
