Let's let Pappu Sain decide how dhol is meant to sound. he thing is, modern Pakistanis aren't so hung up on giving appearances of tradition -- because those "traditional" things are still with them! Indian Punjabis seem to need to frame dhol in some "traditional" setting, tho most times that setting was something made up in more recent decades (eg. bhangra). Pak has dhamal as a concept that young "rockers" have embraced...a living Sufi "vibe" that dont need to appear as folklore
